Why are Homosexuals Democrats?

It's so weird that Democrats oppose Gay Marriage.

I wonder why gays and lesbians are (for the most part) Democrats? I know, some Democratic politicians work to legalize Same-Sex marriage, like Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, and Russ Feingold. But most Democrats however, (Including our own President) are going to twiddle their fingers around. I strongly support gay rights, and I wish most people did. But I think if Democrats want to spread gay rights, why not give them the most basic right as marriage. You can't just say you support gays when quite honestly you don't.

This is a list of the 08 Democratic Candidates and their views on gay marriage:
Barack Obama: No
Hillary Clinton: No
John Edwards: No
Bill Richardson: No
Dennis Kucinich: Yes
Joe Biden: No
Chris Dodd: No (This is a little messed up, he'd rather de-criminalize marijuana than Gay Marriage)
Mike Gravel: Yes

What is the solution the No's are offering? CIVIL UNIONS, yeah you know what those are...
I don't know what these politicians think but...why are gays not joining the Green Party already?
I don't recommend it because I'm a libertarian, but why democrat? It' like trying to cool your hand with bleach!

Just curious...are you merely assuming that gays are mostly Democrats, or do you have evidence to support your assumption?

I happen to personally know some gay people who are members of the Democratic Party

I happen to know that when one state LP actually bothered to have a booth at the local gay pride festival that they got a large number of gays and lesbians who registered to vote as libertarians. Previously the same party had refused to go, preferring gun shows. The women who collected the registrations said they did far better at the pride festival than they ever did at a gun show.

But we should also note that so-called libertarians (more conservative than libertarian in my view) like Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Wayne Root all refused to support same-sex marriage as well. The local top LP office seeker also opposed same-sex marriage. In Missouri the LP ran a Congressional candidate who demanded that Congresss should "hate homosexuals." So let's not pretend the top LP candidates are necessarily any better than the Democrats on this.

Nor do the Dems have to actively attract gay voters. That is because the Republicans actively push them away with their bigoted campaigns and religious fanaticism.  That means the Dems can be a lot more stand-offish without losing support.

Believe it or not, some people hold political views that are not gender-based.

I know you'll not find evidence of this in the media or on gay-dominated television programming but it is true.

Some people, even some gay people, do not think it is a constitutionally allowable role for the federal government to decide who can marry who.  They would be the conservative homosexuals; every one of them are welcome to join me in the struggle to establish this true conservatism in the GOP.

I'm with you, Jahfre. Marriage is a religious issue not a policy issue. That's what contract law is for.

Marriage should be left OUT of the STATE.  Doesn't matter if its homo, hetero, poly or others.  Therefore, I strongly oppose STATE sponsored gay marriage in the same way I oppose STATE sponsored heterosexual marriage.  Keep the government out of our bedrooms.

I agree trd, but since most people won't agree, this is the best choice we have.

I've known a guy all my life, we're both approaching 50 now, who is a staunch far-left, progressive, socialist, Democrat.  He is also an insufferable bigot, homophobe and Christian hater.

Even though I find this man a disgusting, repulsive individual, our lives have been intertwined.  He is certainly no friend.  A repeating behavior I've observed is his willingness to acknowledge his prejudice, blame it on things beyond his control, then, with visible regret, choose to continue his prejudice.

To fit in with his liberal hippie friends, he has to fake tolerance.  It is hysterical to watch.  He will single out a minority individual in a social setting then proceed to talk of nothing but his tolerance  of and associations with "your people."  His only purpose is to be seen interacting with a minority.  Appearances are EVERYTHING.

I can know someone for years and never mention their skin color, their religion or their gender preferences.  Yet, nearly every Democrat I know talks of nothing but these things when describing themselves or others.

What minorities seldom recognize is this distinction:

Liberals will respect your lifestyle and disdain the individual, Conservatives will disdain the lifestyle and respect the individual.  What party these liberals and conservatives belong to is irrelevant.

Finally, The Real Liberal, just because you think most people will not agree isn't a valid reason for embracing bad government.  I disagree with your assertion and with your using that assertion to rationalize oppression.

The best choice we have is to never give up the struggle to limit government regardless of how others, like you, encourage us to do just that.
