Swine flu make for great ratings

Turn the TV on and all you hear is mass hysteria on the swine flu. What you need to know to keep this noise in perspective. And the importance of your thoughts.

Watching TV news is much like studying The Zohar. Just as the Zohar decodes the Bible, we have to decode the news.

On Tea Party day, April 15th, over 935,000 people turned out to protest across the country in every city, yet CNN did not cover the event as it unfolded.

When it did happen to mention the event briefly, it was posed as a bunch of crazies on the streets and of course sponsored by the Republican Party. This one was an easy one to decode. I was actually pleasantly surprised CNN would make such a blatant mistake in showing who indeed they are, their true colors.

These days the news is all over the swine flu. Every news agency has jumped on the bandwagon. I love to channel surf between networks to decodify the news and it is wild as one network tries to out do the other. Whoever can make it more dramatic, outlandish and apocalyptic, the better. All in the name of ratings.

Networks know that this is the kind of story that viewers tend to be glued to, much like hurricane coverage.

In reading my local paper today, I found surprisingly enough some good honest & objective reporting which is like a miracle these days. I felt I was watching Moses part the sea.

In the Sun Sentinel's article by Rafael Olmeda and Angel Streeter entitled "Expect U.S. swine flu deaths" the main point was well driven by the following quote:

"Regular human flu accounts for 36,000 deaths a year in the United States," said Richard Besser, acting director of the CDC (centers for disease control).^

The reason I mention this quote as an example of good news reporting is people like to panic and it is an utter irresponsibility on behalf of the networks and its TV news media to foster, cultivate and encourage this panic in its effort to achieve their only goal which is to gain ratings at all costs.

This is one of those stories that keep people tuned in and they know it. They need to milk it. They feed of it, they can't wait for someone to die, or for the situation and/or virus to spread and get worse.

So people do not give in to the media's feeding frenzy. Swine flu is far from being a pandemic. 160 deaths in Mexico and 1 or 2 deaths in the U.S. are not even close to being a major global concern. Let me remind you there are 400,000,000 people living in the U.S. alone. As the article mentioned 36,000 people die every year in the U.S. of the normal flu virus.

Yes, as the article points out: Richard Besser says "We are dealing with a new strain of influenza that appears to be moving through the community."^ But people this happens all the time, viruses mutate and new strains get created. It's like the cockroaches for heavens sake.

I'm an odds kinda guy; you have more of a chance getting run over by a bus today then catching this flu.

On an even more serious side, let me remind you, your thoughts create reality.

Ever hear of the law of attraction? As Lisa Nicols said "Your thoughts and your feelings create your life. It will always be that way. Guaranteed!"

If you think you might be coming down with Swine Flu or even worry about it, you will come down with it!

According to Rav Berg and I paraphrase: airborne diseases are caused by Lashon Hara (speaking evil behind someone's back, gossip).

My advice to my readers is read the Zohar daily and you will be protected not only from this but everything that comes off those negative airwaves we call TV.

G-d bless you all.

There is no such thing as the "Law of Attraction" as depicted on those DVD's or books that you are reffering to. That's a bunch of crap created by the 'motivational speaking' or 'self help' industry.

Nevertheless, positive thoughts do increase the odds of success and survival by improving the chemistry inside your body and brain. That would be the real "Law of Attraction" and is called optimism or maybe dopamine. Positive thoughts INCREASE YOUR ODDS but does NOT gurantee success.

Try using the LAW OF ATTRACTION to live beyond 150 years. I can guarantee you that although you can extend your life significantly with your positive thoughts you will fail to live beyond 150 years. The odds are 100% agaisnt you in that case.  Wanna bet?  Oh! wait, I will not be able to collect on my winning bet.  Never mind.

Back to the swine flu: Yes, it is overhyped by the news. But the news is in the business of HYPE. Today, I will probably be at more risk of getting struck by lightning than death by swine flu. Unfortunatly most people are fearful of the unknown.

Jonathan -

right on man, while its impossible to know if this will blow-up, it certainly has a lot in common with the 1976 flu fiasco that Ron Paul spoke about.

Jonathan - there are not really all that many people that are able to figure out this stuff yet, although the NC has a higher proportion than most.  There are strong desires to panic from wildly reported news stories.   If you click on the TV or go to MSM websites, you would still think the world was ending -- as if the financial situation is all hunky-dory!!
