It's the "day after" now, 1040 forms have all been dutifully mailed in to the IRS, everyone has gone home and the dust has settled. Or has it?
If you read the papers and blogs or listen to the news, you may have been told that much of the excitement and turnout generated for yesterday's protests was fomented by a conservative Republican backlash targeting a minority dissatisfied by the loss of the last major election.
While there may be some truth to those allegations, no one who showed up in person could possibly doubt that there is a strong undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the status quo, without which no amount of background partisan organizing could have achieved this result.
Last Saturday saw large turnouts at Spanish Landing park in San Diego, and yesterday (April 15th, aka "April Fools Day") in front of the Escondido Post Office. In Escondido alone (Escondido is a moderate-sized city about 25 miles north of San Diego) a crowd conservatively estimated as between 700 and 1000 people showed up to line a 300 meter stretch of Escondido Boulevard between Woodward Avenue and West Valley Parkway, angrily protesting the escalating abuses of federal and state governments run amok. Other protests took place all around San Diego County.
I must confess to being personally unprepared for the magnitude of the turnout here. I saw people I know personally from surrounding areas including Valley Center, about a 20-minute drive away. The crowd ranged from babes in arms to octogenarians in shock over what has become of our beloved country.
Thank God, I was not the only patriot there passing out literature to help inform the television-and-pulpit-dulled masses. I met others passing out information about the movement to end the federal reserve and Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty. Some came in 18th century costume to help emphasize their affinity with our nations' founders. One lady was giving away copies of the constitution. I told one man (he was holding a sign that said "Did You Even Read the Bill?") about http://downsizedc.org/ and their wonderful "Read the Bills Act" legislative proposal.
A wide variety of signs (mostly home-made) were plentiful, proclaiming loud dissent from the currently imposed massively oppressive system of taxation. My mission was to pass out more than 750 colorful business-sized cards with links to some of the best educational information on the world-wide web regarding the egregiously and fraudulently mis-applied federal income tax.
I pray that many of the protesters who took cards from me are stirred up enough to follow these links:
My cards were a little outdated - particularly the 861 Info link, which (after an unlawful court-ordered suppression of freedom of speech) now goes to a page promoting Larken Rose's autobiographical account of his persecution at the hands of the federal government, "Kicking the Dragon." No one who reads that book can any longer seriously doubt the tyrannical oppression of the federal powers that be.
The question remains, Dear Reader; Are YOU ready for the TRUTH? Please follow some of these links yourself. Whether or not you immediately choose to act on them, it pays to be well informed.

I live in Oceanside and work in Escondido. Even though I could have attended either of those city's protests, I electe to drive down to the San Diego Midway Drive gathering. And it was well worth it. I found that the home-made signs part to be especially telling... it meant that this was not a sponsored, bussed-in event with the local political organizations handing out cookie-cutter messages... this was truly grass roots.
Roger Hedgecock (former SD Mayor and highly-rated local talk host) came out as a private citizen, walking up and down both sides of the street and making it a point to personally thank each and every person for coming out. He avoided the press and media to ensure no one focused on a personality - it was about the event itself, not race, sour grapes, GOP vs Dem, or Right vs Left. It was about protesting a runaway government that no longer fells answerable to the voters.
To those detractors that keep bringing up, "But what about Bush...." well, sorry, yea, it took a president as bad as Bush to get an Obama into office, but YOUR guy happens to be in power when this perfect storm has hit, so he gets the brunt...
You are right. It took a president as bad as Bush (Cheney) to get Obama elected. I'm not very sure that bothers them much. Which is somewhat troubling.
