Let's remedy the drug violence!

The only serious way to quell the violence and end the war on drugs.

There has been a lot written lately about the war on drugs and the problems in Mexico between the government and the illegal drug cartels. What is happening now reminds me of the style of the Mafia and other brutal groups during the days of prohibition when they controlled the illegal liquor business here in the United States.

In seeking a solution to this problem we should certainly look at how the problems of the prohibition days were remedied! It is obvious that the war Mexico is fighting is fueled primarily by consumption here in the states. I think it should be apparent that the solution that resolved the prohibition violence was to legalize and control the root of the problem, the consumption! Not by ramping up legions of feds and soldiers to fight those groups and organizations. That did not work then and will not work now!

Mexico's war is here and the habits of our society are the main cause. They are not fighting this alone as our government, is and has been, throwing wealth and resources at this problem for many years. Our president and the congress should take their collective heads out of the sand and take responsibility to resolve the issue and end this war by legalizing and controlling drug use in this country. Give the citizens the freedom to legally choose whether to use them or not!

By doing anything short of that the problems will continue to accelerate and the violence will produce nothing less than to turn the United States into a police state to combat the problem, much like Mexico has become now.
