Tea Party? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Tea Party!

There is a movement sweeping our nation at the moment, localized protests of government spending called 'teaparties' Are you aware of them?

So far this year there have been dozens. On April 15th, there will be many more, maybe hundreds? Ordinary citizens are joining with already-fed-up activists to protest the unprecedented level of spending by the federal government. They call these protests, 'Tea Parties.'

This action by the citizenry, first ignored by many political leaders, has now led government officials to run hard to get out in front of them. Some are joining the movement, jumping on the bandwagon, while others are downplaying or mis-directing the purpose of the protests.

Originally, the Obama administration and those on the left were dismissive of the protests. 'Tea Parties? We don't need no stinkin' Tea Parties!' They either didn't acknowledge them or ascribed them to fringe right-wing activists.

The administration is now claiming these protests are a result of the anger that has been building for a long time, from the policies of the last administration. They aren't missing the point so much as trying to deflect the criticism from their own policies. Beginning with TARP, there has been one mis-step after another in federal spending in a panicked response to our economic crisis.

Tea Party momentum has been building with each scandalous over-the-top spending bill that Obama, Pelosi, and Reid try to cram through the Congress. Frustration is now at a point that some who initially supported our new President are experiencing buyer's remorse.

These protest gatherings are quickly becoming the most visible form of protest available to the average voter. Many have experiened the frustration of phone calls or faxes being ignored, or email responded to with a form letter that dismisses all the concerns we expressed. Feeling ignored and marginalized, many are looking forward to an opportunity to step out and have their voices heard.

If enough attention and media coverage can be garnered, as well as the increased participation of the voting public, then maybe a miracle will occur. Maybe our elected officials from the President on down will realize they didn't win election on a platform of bankrupting the US economy while charging outrageous taxes on us, our children and grandchildren.

In the same spirit of the original Boston Tea Party in 1773, men and women are taking a stand against taxation that will overly-burden the producing public, while rewarding those who pay no income tax at all. Just as Sam Adams (he makes a nice lager, by the way) and fifty men walked through onlooking crowds while dressed as American Indians and threw tea from Britain into the harbor in protest, so now, do men women and children gather with signs, slogans, and speeches to take a stand against opporession.

This nation was founded on resistance to taxation at the whim of Parliament and the King, so now the true Spirit of America is revealed as we stand against taxation at the whim of elected officials. They work for us, not the other way around. When they oppress us through over-spending our tax dollars, and demand that we make up THEIR deficits, they are not working for us, they are demanding that we work for them. I, for one, refuse to go along quietly.

Do we need a Tea Party? We absolutely do, many of them, and in every city and town in America.

Well put!  It's nice to see political activism becoming more popular in this country.  Too many of us have been apathetic for too long.

I found you through twitter, please let me know next time you write a new blog.   I'm at www.twitter.com/pandamop

I just asked my husband if he's aware of the protests being held by conservatives all over this once great land of our.  He said that he hadn't heard of any.  The biggest crimes, in my opinion, are the lies of omission of the disgustingly slanted media.  The media along with the blind and ignorant fools that buy what's being or not being reported will be what bring America down.  A shame.

I would call them out on their insensitivity.

After all not everyone is a taxpayer.

Not everyone has children.

Some people just want to get money from the government, and their feelings might get hurt if people complain about "$1.75 trillion deficits being passed onto the children" and such.

These people should accept it is their role to pay taxes and shut up. It's not like dissent is something we respect in this country.

I've been looking for something like this to happen for several years now. It doesn't matter what your politics are Congress is out of control with their abuse of the earmark process. We need some way to sort out the junk and get that money to where it will do the most good. Thanks for posting this. I'm behind you 100%.

Local post office, courthouse, tax office, public park...

Most big cities have a set place or two going already.  If you're in a small town & are organizing a tea party protest... go to www.foundingfatherscry.com & we'll set up a subforum for you and list your location/time on our calendar!

Tell your church members, your coworkers, your friends and families.  5000 small cities with 100 showing up... big cities with 5000 showing up... it adds up quickly.
