Glenn Beck..... The Weeping Prophet

Glenn Beck's broadcast, We Surround Them on 3/13/09, begins...and continues in tears.

Glenn Beck, radio and TV host held a special broadcast of his show on Friday, 3/13/09. Beck had hyped the show for weeks as a 'We Surround Them' event, and had encouraged nationwide participation. The show began...and continued with tears!

Beck launched a website for his new project, The912Project.om and annouced it on his show. The response from his viewers caused the website server to crash, repeatedly. (I haven't been able to log on yet) The Fox News server has gone down several times due to high traffic from Beck fans sending their pictures in response to his request for participation.

In his opening monologue, he spoke passionately about his purpose for the broadcast, and had to pause to choke back tears. As the opening continued, there were several moments of dead air while he regained his composure.  His praise of military personnel and professing his love of the US were his biggest choking points.

I can't remember a time that I have seen or heard such emotion or passion from a media figure. Most try to be robotic, and the ones that are animated are very often angry. Beck's transparent emotion struck a very deep chord with me, and I suspect with thousands of others.

Groups of people all over the country gathered in homes, bars, diners, parking lots - anywhere they could get together and watch the broadcast. The response has been overwhelming. And it is a sign of the condition of the hearts of Americans everywhere.

Last spring, as I watched the second year of the Presidential campaign continue and the local political races began to heat up, I came to a breaking point. Not unlike Glenn Beck, I found myself moved to tears, frequently and unexpectedly. I carried a heaviness for the state of our country and political system that I couldn't shake.

Everything is spin, and advertising propaganda, and position, and who knows who and has the money to buy their way into power. Integrity is hard to find in a public figure, and even when somone sounds like they are a person of principle, we often find that when it really counts, they will compromise principle for expediency or worse, for gain.

Many Americans who bought into the promise of Hope & Change over the last two years are finding that the change they voted for wasn't what they thought it was. As a matter of fact, there is less change about the way Washington operates, and more change  away from cherished American ideals.

There are many of us who are weary of having the history of the founding of our nation re-written to fit the agenda of the politically correct. Who are tired of hearing about the evils of America, and how the world hates us. We are sickened at the debt we are burdening our children with, and for what? No tangible positive result will come as a result of the current flailing of our government, only the pain of the pricetag.

And a majority of our leaders won't hear us. They are insulated in their offices and with their clubs, they deal with us as little as possible when there is no election looming. When three minority senators hand over a victory to the majority party regardless of what their constituents want, they have betrayed and damaged their country.

More and more, as the people become more active in contacting and holding their leaders accountable, elected leaders are finding ways to discount and ignore the cry of the public. It is a sickening display of the powerful guarding their power at all costs.

My hat is off to Glenn Beck, he reminds me of the Weeping Prophet of the Bible, Jeremiah. Upon seeing Israel and Jerusalem overcome by her enemies, he expresses:

"For all these things I weep; tears flow down my cheeks. No one is here to comfort me; any who might encourage me are far away. My children have no future, for the enemy has conquered us." Lamentations 1:16

For those of us who can see the danger on the horizon, we aren't willing to wait, we are weeping now. Rather than sit in the ruins of a once-great nation and reminisce about how things used to be, we choose to stand and fight for the preservation of our way of life. Make no mistake, this is a raging battle for the future of America, and how our children and grandchildren will live.

My angst drove me to run for office locally. I lost -badly, being out-spent and running as a conservative in a year of hope & change, but, I am more involved now than I have ever been. What will your tears drive you to do? Will you get involved? Will you take action before it is too late? As for me, I'm with Beck, let's surround them for a change and take our country back.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for this report;  I missed the show, I'll have to pick up the replay on YouTube.

Thanks also for your "call to action" and the reminder of Jeremiah's experience. Might I strongly recommend to you and all your readers: Please check out http://downsizedc.org - There you can become part of a growing citizen army to deal with the problem of "representatives" who won't listen to the people.

There are less than 600 congressmen, and more than 300 million of us; we ought to be able to wear out our men and women in Washington, regardless of their political party, and force them to "do the right thing" just to get the millions of us to stop bothering them!

There may be more than 300 million "of us", but most of us are not with you, or have you forgotten the recent (November) elections?  You lost until the next elections.

Great post.

The Beck special was great too.

The new site is very good, but the boards for that page are filled with unfocused and point missing persons. All are passionate, but if we can't become a group of like minded person with a focus, the project is bound to fail.

Hi Right Rev. Rowland,

I don't see the value in having boob-tube addicts trained to all moo in unison. At least Glen can weep with happiness that he got his mojo back and he has the photos to prove it.  He can manipulate people into futile behavior just as effectively as he had hoped.

What a waste of human potential.  (Not,Beck, I suspect he is doing his absolute best, sad as that is.  I'm referring to the people who sent him their photographs.)

Well written article on the review of the great show Glenn did Friday night and replayed Sat. night on Fox News.  Some efforts such as his fall and pass.  But, it is mybelief that with the passion that he and so many others have behind getting our government back under control, this effort will continue forward with a full head of steam.

Thank you, Glenn Beck for helping us to get fired up.

I couldn't agree more.  It gives me hope that an intelligent person such as yourself would really try to get into government when you found it wasn't to your liking.  I firmly believe that we all need to step up, run for every office in the land, and stuff the halls of Congress with people who know better and aren't willing to sell out.  Bless you and your message.

That is the worst crying acting I have ever seen from someone.  Couldn't you tell he was faking his crying act?  I actually felt bad for him and at one point I was laughing as he tried to wipe a fake tear away.  What a corny pseudo act, but I expect no less from the studios of Faux News Propaganda.

You know if republicans actually practiced accountability themselves they would realize they have brought their own problems on themselves by following fake idols like this man.  Look what worshipping the Messiah, George Bush has brought your party of idol worshippers.  Destruction and ruin.  Your own party has caused its decline and downfall so stop projecting that onto everyone else and look within for the truth.

No one party has caused more harm than the reich wing.  Losses of trillions in debt for those with retirement savings, hundreds of thousands killed while money is spent on the defense industry and all the while propaganda from corporate owned media like Glenn Beck tells you what to worship and what to think.   I think you only need to look in the mirror to find out what needs to be fixed and what is wrong with America, people dont want yor hate and fea rmongering anymore and neither does the world.

love Beck and what he stands for.  but i've witnessed too many tears. not so much this broadcast because the emotion is real but he's done this on other occasions so i'm wondering if this is his schtick.

A broken heart usually does produce tears. Our hearts should be broken over the mess that the US is in. We should weep, because unless those who care stand up and let their voices be heard, this great country will continue to go down.

Bravo Glenn Beck, and bravo to you Rev. Rowland, that you took the first step by running in a local campaign so that your voice was heard.

Your boldness and commitment to country through your articles is an encouragement to those of us who really get what’s going on.

Keep up the good work.
