The Steorn 300 Has the time for "Free Energy" truly arrived? A "Gideon's Army" of 300 engineers are being selected to start developing Steorn's new Orbo magnetic motor technology. Will I become one of them? Can we storm the gates of the energy cartels? An open letter to Sean McCarthy.by creator

In August of 2006, a relatively obscure Irish company stunned (and enraged) the scientific world by claiming (in an advertisement in The Economist!) the discovery of a "free-energy" technology based on previously unknown force imbalances alleged to occur when permanent magnets move along carefully designed paths.
A failed demonstration in July of 2007 produced reactions of gleeful ridicule among Steorn's nay-sayers. More recently, some have alleged possible fraudulent intent when Steorn announced availability of "SteornLab," comprising several products intended to measure the claimed effects. Ironically, some of Steorn's earlier technology business was aimed at serving law enforcement in the area of fraud prevention. Some reporters responded more optimistically, as did I.
When I heard last month that Steorn had put out the call for "300 Good Men and True" to learn about and begin engineering development of their Orbo technology, I immediately threw my hat into the ring in the hope of becoming one of them. A few days ago I received this letter from Steorn CEO Sean McCarthy:
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for expressing an interest in joining the first 300 participants in the completed Steorn Knowledge Database (SKDB).
Based on the initial registration details that you have provided we would be grateful if you could forward, by return email only, a synopsis of your academic career, including the following details:
Education/Degrees; Current position; Principle area of work; and Contact details (e.g. Organization/Institute - department - address and telephone number).
We will contact you again once we have had an opportunity to review all the synopses that we are expecting to receive over the next few weeks.
Thank you again for your interest.
Yours faithfully,
Sean McCarthy
I've chosen to reply to Mr. McCarthy in this public forum for several reasons.
First, a simple email can't even come close to capturing the essence of "who I am," and I felt that some added illustrations and links would help. Second, I want the public to become more aware of the radically beneficial changes Steorn is about to unleash on the world. Finally, I find responding in this way to be a lot more entertaining than merely sending an email.
Having said that, here is my reply to Sean McCarthy:
Dear Sean,
Thank you for considering me as a candidate for participation in the Steorn Knowledge Database. You are likely to find that I don't fit anyone's particular "mold" as an academic; nevertheless, as I strongly desire to learn about and experiment with Orbo, here is the summary you've requested.
Education/Degrees
While I went through the usual course of primary and secondary education I am predominantly self-educated. Since childhood I've been taking things apart to see what makes them work. I used to fix all of my mother's household appliances as well as her cameras.
I skipped the 8th and 12th grades and attended two and a half years of university. I was then conscripted into alternate service during the Vietnam war, having declined to enter the military for reasons of conscience.
As you can see by the way I've responded to your "request for summary," I do almost nothing "conventionally." I relish opportunities to exercise my creativity on a daily basis.
You might say that my drive and my ability to soak up and apply knowledge is a consequence of the way that God wired my brain. I am therefore very keen to "delve in" to the SKDB and start applying it! My online identity, suggestive of my abilities, is "creator." (Please note the lower-case 'c' - I'm not in competition with "The Big Guy" - I just admire His creative handiwork so much that I immensely enjoy imitating Him!)
Consequently, my principle form of credentialing is the patents that I hold and the high regard of my clients. You might please see, for example, some of my patents, by clicking on their images in this article. You may also find some of my prior experimenting with permanent magnet motors to be of some interest, and so please click on the photograph of this MXLO motor prototype.
Current Position
I have been among the full time happily self-employed since the early 1990s, and by God's grace have managed to keep a roof over my family's head and food on the table to this day.
Covidien AG (with manufacturing facilities in Galway, Ireland) has been one of several major clients for my consulting for many years now. I worked with them on the original design of the 840 medical ventilator and some of its subsequent enhancements.
I invented a new kind of infrared touch frame for Covidien some years back (please click on the patent image) that is now used world-wide in their flagship product, the 840 medical ventilator. I have continued to strongly support their sustaining engineering efforts.
ViaMetrics AB in Savedalen, Sweden, is another long-term client for whom I design and program a unique line of people counters.
Principle Area of Work
While I am an inventor of many things, my day-to-day work usually revolves around electronic embedded systems engineering. I design devices operated by microprocessors and programmable logic devices, and I write the necessary firmware programming to enable their operation.
As a consultant I command a six-figure income while typically spending less than half my time on client work, thus enabling me to pursue other interests such as "free energy" experimentation and astronomy. See, for example, http://creatorguy.com/ and http://subarcsec.com/ for a few of my other relatively recent efforts.
Contact Details
I live and work (when not out surfing!) here in The People's Republic of California. I operate mostly out of my home office, with occasional travel to client sites. You can send anything necessary to the address below, as United Parcel Service, USPS, FedEx, DHL and so forth are regular visitors:

Sean, thanks for taking more than a casual look at this summary. Please do feel free to call me on my cellphone if you have any questions or care to discuss your fascinating new technology. I hope I've persuaded you to grant me that slot in "The Steorn 300." I don't think you will regret it!
Most sincerely,
-Dann McCreary

Good luck with your Steorn adventure, but I must say I have lost all faith in the company. The turning point for me was the recent Mideast lecture tour with still NO working model of their supposed technology, combined with the fact that the conclusion of the original 'jury of peers' has never seen the light of day. And now they're selling testing devices for their phantom tollbooth Orbo, and sucking 300 more souls into the debacle. Total scam IMHO.
Thanks for the kind wishes, all the more meaningful to me because I see that you've offered them despite your doubts. :)
I would like to ask you (and all other doubters) this question:
One of the things I hope to do should I gain access to Steorn's Knowledge Database is, of course, to build a working model. If I were to succeed at that, what would it take to convince you that I've done so? Would you need to see and inspect a working device in person?
In my way of thinking, an inarguably working model would be the "existence proof" that would set all questions to rest. It would be, in essence, "The Holy Grail" of so-called "free energy" devices because its very existence and operation would become the testimony that would set all honest argument to rest.
A simple analogy from history: those who claimed heavier-than-air flight to be impossible became increasingly hard to find as the 20th century progressed and more and more aircraft were flying overhead in plain sight of all.
A simple working device would absolutely be sufficient proof. Steorn hasn't even managed to produce that, after 3 years of promises and bogus claims about independent testing. Produce a device, show it in operation, explain how it works. 3 years later and nothing? Not a single working model? And theyre doing lecture tours and selling testing equipment? Come on!
I've built things before that haven't worked (see the MXLO motor links above;) In view of the possible upside, I'm certainly willing to try again. Public disclosure and replication are clearly the way to settle the issue. If I'm successful, you can be sure I'll tell the story right here on Nolan Chart. :)
Any other takers? Would a working device under your nose be adequate to convince you?
Tim, you're quite right: I'm excited! because, as the old story goes, with all the horse-apples surrounding the topic of "free energy," I'm betting that there's a pony in here somewhere. :)
We'll start finding out as soon as Steorn opens it's kimono a bit more to "The 300." I still hope that I'll be one of them.
Curiously enough, Google seems to have removed its reference to this article at http://news.google.com
Is this temporary? Permanent? What's behind the removal? Can or did anyone else out there see the Google link?
It is visible at http://google.com if you search for "Steorn 300." Did Google simply decide that my application for entry into the Steorn 300 is not "newsworthy?"

HI creator,
To answer your opening question, "Has the time for "free energy" finally arrived?" I can only say, I hope not.
Human beings already reproduce and consume with all the reason and planning of bacteria. One limiting factor on this self-destructive behavior is the cost of energy. If we thought wars financed with fiat currency were horrendous, just imagine the horrors a hate and fear-based civilization such as ours could inflict on ourselves with fiat energy.
No, I hope now is not the time for free energy and I hope that time never comes. My take on the "technology" at the core of your article is that it is merely a fantasy that a generational progression of snake-oil salesmen can use to intice fools to part with their money. Just another faith-based scheme for people who believe they deserve to get something for nothing.
I've got no credentials in the field to back me up and I wouldn't share them here if I did. My purpose is to communicate an opinion, not to convince anyone else of anything. What I do have is an understanding of economics and the folly of unhinging actions from consequences. Since the belief in this unhinging is a primary factor in the world of men. Religions are based on it, political gain is based on it and many individual lifestyle choices are based on it. I'm not surprised to hear of schemes that claim to unhinge actions from consequence in the world of physics too.
I hope you get the job is that is where you interests lie and I hope you never succeed in unhinging actions from consequences, even temporarily postponing those consequences can be enormously destructive. We're living in a time when the economic world must face the net impact of huge, but temporarily postponed consequences of fiat currency and the monetary policy that it fosters. I wouldn't wish a future on mankind where they may have to eventually face the consequences of a technology that can temporarily postpone the consequences of fiat energy.
Meanwhile, I hope an opportunity to use your considerable talents in finding a sustainable, non-fiat, energy for mankind will land in your lap.

I, too, just offer an opinion here - and that comes from one has also followed Steorn for some time now. The thing that is left in my 'first thought' awareness (after having been initially excited by the possibilities suggested by Sean years ago) is they've always had the money collecting cart wayout ahead of their proposed product.
Also, does it seem odd that they've developed the very instruments by which their proposed results will be measured by....- or it is just me?
Jahfre, I appreciate your kind wishes even though I disagree with your analysis of "free energy" in general. I think of it as analogous to a 2nd ammendment issue; I would rather have a well-armed populace ready to take down a few miscreants that show up than a disarmed populace unable to defend themselves. Likewise, I would rather see everyone with all the energy they need to run their households and travel than handing over obscene profits and taxes to energy cartels and governments while scratching to eke out a living.
I have some ideas for an article linking energy, anti-gravity, and freedom that you may find interesting. IMHO, the "powers that be" have intentionally muddied the waters and blocked the path to those two advanced technologies precisely because application of such technology would take the "common man" out from under their thumb.
Regarding "unhinging actions from consequences" I don't believe that's what Steorn is claiming. A better analogy might be the windmill - the source of power is external to the system, albeit invisible to the naked eye.
I am actually somewhat relieved to learn that it won't be "all at once," as I have been wondering how I would keep up with all of my other work while at the same time beginning to explore a whole new realm. :)
Please stay tuned to "Truth Realm" for developing news as I begin to study the Steorn materials, and thanks for your interest! :)
