Ron Paul Makes Me Embarrassed To Be An American--

Is Ron Paul A Bright Light In A Dimming America?
by Scott from Oregon
(Libertarian)
Wednesday, December 19, 2007

He stands at the podium and says the same thing he said last time he was asked the same question, sometimes stumbling on a word or two, sometimes letting his voice get a bit too shrill and unrestrained.

He speaks with the conviction of a man whose mind has long been made up.

Researching his record, you find that this is not a new thing, but a long-term thing- he is stuck on his convictions like an ideologue.

His consistency is unnerving in the world of politics, and it makes you nervous listening to some of his bolder pronouncements.

His visage isn’t a tall, stately, perfectly coiffured one, and often you think of your grandpa hitting the still when he rants about blowback, the dollar crises we are facing and normally taboo subjects like legalizing drugs and prostitution.

And as he makes his political rounds, granting interviews and making speeches, raising money and running for president, he makes me ashamed, as an American, to watch.

I think “Good Lord! What has become of this great country?”

There was once a time in America when convictions and a deep belief in principles were considered virtues in this land of ours. There was once a time when the Constitution demanded the awe and respect that it richly deserves. There was once a time in America when “We The People” was a force and an ideal that the entire world envied and secretly wanted to emulate.

Watching Ron Paul run for the office of president of the United States of America, I realize- sadly and with remorse- that those days are gone.

Ron Paul is showing us the sickly ethos and growing pathos we have gathered for ourselves and our great nation by his presence on the National Stage. He doesn’t mean to- he’s just running for an office- but it is happening in spite of (and perhaps because of) his earnest efforts.

As Americans, we are seeing ourselves for the first time in quite sometime. The bickering. The squabbling. The pathological spending. Our warring disposition.

 All of it.

Ron Paul, by virtue of his simple logic and dedicated virtue, is demonstrating just how far we’ve fallen and many of us do not want to look.

Better to deny and contrive than to admit a weakness and a sickness.

Is that the new American way?

For a long time now America has been running off of the greatness of our ancestors.  Everything we have was created the principles of the Founders; their sound money created our economic greatness, their non-interventionist policies allowed for our military greatness to mature, and their policies of unfettered liberty unleashed the productive, creative talents of society.  We're methodically destroying everything that made us great right now.  Ron Paul wants to reverse that trend.  RonPaul2008

Yes, it is shamefull that many in American media and in government marginalize and deride such an honorable man as Dr. Paul. It is not personal shame, but collective shame that colors us. Shame on Julie-Annie, McCRomney, and Huckleberry for being both incredibly stupid but an embodiment of the reason we as Americans are shamed.

Hey Scott-

I sense this article is so ridiculous you write these things to get web hits to drive advertisement dollars. Your (and other) ad hominen attack has become so transparent - why don't you debate his monetary policy or his plan to address the 10T debt? People like you in this article provide no answers that I read. I search RP every day and have not seen hide nor hair of articles debating his points (evidence the MSM is in a conundrum).

I'm wondering when media outlets will show point-by-point deconstructions of Ron Paul's core values. I HAVE NOT SEEN A ONE AND I READ MY NEWS EVERY DAY ON THE INTERNET (AFTER ABANDONING THE MSM NEWS ON THE IDIOT BOX). I think this would be a great way to kill his support.

Because I'm feeling generous, how about this:

* A real economist debunking the value of a gold standard (they'll have to debunk Goldwater/(pre-corrupted) Greenspan/Mises, not just give talking points). Review the dollar debasement and the current M3 estimate of 16% year of year (according the govt's 1980 calculation method.
* A politician willing to explain why Iraq is worth more American/Iraqi lives and 100's of billions of taxpayer dollars* A Secretary of State (Rice) to detail why American military forces are required at 700 bases throughout 130 foreign countries and why we should pay for it
* Detail why restoring our liberties (by repealing the Patriot Act, for one, restoring Habeas Corpus for another) is a bad thing
* A treatise on why income tax is necessary (detailing the collectivist notion that the working people should be forced to pay for the non working)

Those are decent starters. If you want to kill support for Ron Paul, you must do so by killing his message. Prove he is wrong. That is news people can use and need.

I long for the day when we get past demonstrably inaccurate polling techniques and cries of "ISOLATIONIST!!!!" from MCain (reference therealmccain.com for some good clips) as news and blog fodder. Alas, that day has not yet come, and until such time as I get the analysis and information I need in order to convince me to vote otherwise, Doctor and Congressman Ron Paul has my vote and full support. I will give my full contribution. Call my my bluff - I dare you to address his many clrealy stated positions instead of gutless slandering pieces like this. Or perhaps you're striving for that position at the crayoLA TIMES?

Let's start talking something of substance. Or is that too much to ask?

I do thank you for allowing me to post - good day sir.

Funny I scrolled back up and you have a whole bunch of Ron Paul advertisers...now I see the reason for the article. Stop selling out a very honest man for your own profit motives. Enough people like you have driven our country into the ground (debt spiral) by your self serving ways.....

thank you in advance.

What?!?  Ron Paul's worst offense in his appearance is that he needs to get some fitted shirts.  I am very serious about this.  Fitted shirts.

If you've ever met him in person, you're struck with the presence of a 72 year-old man who is vibrant, energetic, and probably in better shape than either of us.

It should make us all embarassed to be Americans. Actually, that's not true, it should make us all be embrassed that we call ourselves United States Citizens. I mean, think about it, when we travel abroad these days, it's better to claim to be Canadian than American.

We lost our way, and it's kind of sickening to be reminded of that. On the bright side, we can reverse the course that started heading the wrong way long before we were born.
