Stimulus Package Simply Won't Work

For elementary reasons any politician could understand, the plan simply can't work and will be harmful to the American taxpayer.

President Obama's $875 billion dollar economic stimulus plan simply won't work for elementary reasons that any politician should understand.

In order for the government to put money into the economy, it first must take money out of the economy. Government stimulus plans are government spending programs. Stimulus plans require new taxation or borrowing. Any gain realized by government spending will be quickly absorbed back by the government.

When the government borrows to fund spending programs more money has to be taken out of the economy than was originally put in. So in reality, this stimulus plan will have a negative effect on the economy. The inflation created from government borrowing will especially hurt senior citizens and those on fixed incomes.

At a time when the federal government is running trillion dollar deficits and has a multi-trillion dollar debt yet to pay off, do we want Washington D.C. attempting to manage the economy? The federal government needs to practice sound financial management, balance its budget and cut spending. That is the proper thing for all governments to do during an economic slow down.

Dear BattleStations,

Well, apparently the Democrats (and Reps in their heart of hearts, save RP) believe they CAN centrally plan the economy.  I think an honest survey of the American people - scratch that - make it "the American people who actually read the plan" would agree its nonsense as well.

Hi BattleStations,

  You make good points.

People who support and defend the ridiculous actions of our government and central bankers totally understand your first point.  They fall into two groups:

1.  The stick-it-to-the-rich group.  These people believe that the reason their life is hard and they have to work and their kids can't have a new everything they want is because some other people are rich.  They don't care that the rich people who  created and control our economic and fiscal system continue to defend their role in that system and use "government" money to prop it up after they drained any value it may have once had.  All they care about is seeing that the rich people in charge of the mess stick-it-to-the-rich who make money outside the financial control board rooms.

Even though the stick-it-to-the-rich tactics always impact the rank and file supporters first and most.  This is because the result of a successful stick-it-to-the-rich strategy is decades of horrific oppression as capital and opportunity and long-term prosperity disappear.

2.  The super-rich and the rich elite who run the country and the banks.  Their actions in this economic situation have one very specific goal.  Ensure they and their descendents remain super rich and in control.

The stimulus package will work magnificently at acheiving the goals of group #2 and just as magnificently at destroying the future for most of those who support it.  Given the status quo voter chose to support the current system nearly unanimously at 98%  Excluding those rich enough in the right ways to not be impacted by real world economics and those they employ, most of America is going to suffer so that this "economic stimulus" can do exactly what it is intended to do....keep the rich elite rich, and elite.

If our governing powers were smart, they'd also fill everyone's tanks up with free gas!  Yep, just go on over to a Mobil station and suck 'em dry, and deposit the gas into a Shell station.  Then direct the public to have at it and fill their vehicles with free gas!  That will stimulate the competition, you know, because Mobile will freak out that everyone is getting gas from Shell!  Mobil will inevitably drop their prices for the competition, and then everyone is going to run over to Mobil to get gas, therefore stimulating the gas economy!  Right?  RIGHT?!?

Stoooopid.  Mobil will suddenly have a gas shortage because the government took their gasoline, so the gas will be at more of a premium, especially since they're going to have to cover their losses.  When the hand-outs run out at Shell, Shell is going to up their prices to match mobil.

As for the customers, well, free gas means they can take that long road trip they've been holding off on because of gas prices.  When they return from their trip with an empty gas tank, they're going to be forced to pay the higher prices!

Yep, the government is going to solve all our financial problems.... (note the sarcasm)
