Topic: Government Regulation
Is Your Cell-Phone a Predator? Unfortunately, many Republican Congressmen, instead of returning to their small-government roots, continue to follow the socialist crowd hoping to finally fit in…by Ken D. Berry, MD

In another fine example of Republicans having completely lost their way back to the party of smaller government and less regulation, New York Republican Congressmen Peter King tells us that we need the federal government to protect us and our children from the evil cellular telephones. He has proposed an act called (no kidding) the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act.
This resolution, if passed into law, will require all cellular telephones to make some sort of noise when a picture is snapped. As supporting argument for this act the reader is told that other countries (Japan) already have similar laws, and that it is for the protection of children in locker-rooms.
A law such as this, although well intentioned (hopefully), would be overcome by any tech-savvy criminal in about 4 seconds. Let all readers give Congressman King his kudos for tackling this vital issue at a time when America's economic stability and strategic defense are in the balance. A friendly word of advice to Mr. King from a lowly layman; less regulation and more Liberty will return America to her former prosperity. After all, is not Live, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness our goal?

You dont have to be tech savvy to lower the noise, you only have to cover the speaker with your thumb. In addition, having the audible signal will not stop people from taking the pics. The "victim" can hear the "click", but the damage is already done.
On the other hand, although people could violate our privacy by taking voyeur naughty pics, these camera phones have been great against government abuses. Cops can not get away with stuff they used to get away with because there is a very high chance that a spectator will have a camera phone. Unbeknown to the cops, the spectator to a scene may film police brutality or other abuses. Add to that the internet and websites like YouTube and the cops have less prbability of abusing the law they are supposed to protect. So the government may be watching us, but we are also watching THEM and we have more eyes.
So although these camera phones could be used as an invasion of privacy they can also be used to record the government abuses against liberty.
I rather have the people with as many camera cell phones as possible with no clicking sounds.
So, let me get this straight... you say that "less regulation and more Liberty will return America to her former prosperity."
So that means LESS regulation of Wall Street, LESS regulation of the banking industry, LESS regulation of guns and drugs and prostitution and gambling, LESS regulation of immigration, LESS regulation of advertising and product safety, LESS regulation of the manufacture and distribution of prescription drugs (to pick something in YOUR neck of the woods), LESS regulation of movies, television, and the pornography industry, LESS regulation of the intrusion of the FBI and CIA into our lives.... blah, blah, blah, blah, blah...
Hey, you're right! That really WILL help things! Thanks, Doc. You're a real social GENIUS! You've really shown us the way!
Is there any government agent, politician, or other authoratarian scumbag out there that you would NOT instantly bow down to? Your slavish worship of these foul agents of the state is sickening. They have nothing to offer the public that they haven't already stolen from them,
Ignore reality, hide from the facts, yet the truth remains. You absolutely love your chains. Have fun with your slavery, willing serf.
Only trouble is, I don't feel like a slave, and I have everything I could possibly want. I even have all the freedom I could possibly ask for. I don't feel restrained from doing anything I want to do.
Hmmmmmm. Maybe I'm not a SLAVE after all. Maybe it's just a state of mind, and in YOUR mind, YOU'RE a slave! Hmmmmmm. Something to think about, huh?
