Topic: 1st Amendment
Continental Congress 2009

On tonights show we were fortunate to have Bob Schultz, Chairman of We the People, discussing his organizations' efforts to put together a Continental Congress in early 2009. This is in an effort to clearly move government toward action regarding the Capstone Right of the First Amendment, the Right to Petition.

Having traveled to 18 cities in 21 days and with at least 10 more cities over the next month, Bob Schultz is helping lead a charge for each state to send 3 delegates to a Continental Congress in March of this year. This is something we each need to carefully pay attention to. It is a page from our history. Our founders grew tired of King George III ignoring their Petitions for Redress. They gathered to formulate a plan of action with a focus on gaining action by their government. It was so important the First Amendment Right to Petition for Redress was maintained for us to use. Often referred to as the Accountability Clause or Capstone Clause it is a way for the people to defend of our Constitution.

Amendment 1 states, "[c]ongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." It is the final right we hear so little about and the government ignores.

According to Mr. Schultz, "The convention will last as long as it takes to complete their work." Those works includes reviewing the abuses against the Constitution and carefully develop action steps toward resolving those abuses. It will be a time when we have an opportunity to truly drive a message to those representing us that our direction is not what many desire. We are not a country of democratic, or mob, rule. We are a Federalist Republic where the minority is as protected against tyranny as the majority is given voice.

Mr. Schultz urges everyone to gain an understanding of what this is really all about. In order to do that he urges everyone to read two articles; Summit Call' and Line in the Sand' and then visit your state link to see what is happening in your state. Also, talk this event up with everyone you know. If you believe we are a government of the people rather than over the people you can easily help make this Continental Congress as important an event as the one held by our founders.

Hey Gary!

Are you considering becoming a delegate?

I believe we'll have the three from UT.  I wasn't able to attend the meeting here on the 13th.  The work will take the delegates anywhere from 2 weeks to a month and I'm not sure how I would sustain life at home if I were to go...although it would be great!  We do hope to do several radio shows with delegates during the convention however.

Everyone should also be sure to tell as many patriot organizations as they can about this, and urge them to get involved.
