"To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men." Abraham Lincoln
In my youth, I remember my first time seeing the pictures from the concentration camps and thinking how could this happen. It is not possible a whole nation could be so evil I reasoned.
The message of Martin Luther King and the struggle of people to gain basic recognition and rights deeply affected my teenage years. Again, I asked how this could happen especially in my country, the greatest in history. America stands for truth and justice and against oppression and tyranny.
Now, in my lifetime, a black man is the president of the United States of America and I could not be more proud and happy for my country. However, I must wonder why this man? What has he done and more importantly what does he stand for? I remember the dashing young man who made the speech at the 2004 DNC convention and he impressed me.
What I heard from his mouth recently troubles me profoundly. We have elected a man who can see the pregnancy of his own daughter as punishment and who would condone the abortion of his own grandchild. What happened to the rights of the individual that "we hold to be self evident"? This is an issue I find it hard to believe a black man supports.
The Pro-choice crowd will jump on me at this point and cry that I am giving unproven status to the zygote or insert-whatever-euphuism you prefer. BS says I, what gives anyone the right to decide the outcome? The outcome of abortion is singular a life is terminated. Not potential life or any of the other hairsplitting the enlightened ones care to engage in, left unmolested there would be a baby, period.
The point is you think you have a right to take a life if it suits your purpose, period. What does this mean for the Constitution of the United States of America? If it does not apply to all then it applies to none. If it applies to none then why can't I kill anyone who gets in my way? Isn't that the true reason for an abortion, it got in my way?
Common sense tells me you made the choice when you decided to copulate. How self-centered do you have to be to insist that I give you the right to take a life for your convenience. This is a right that I do not even have under the Constitution. The right to life as guaranteed under the Constitution but your right to privacy somehow trumps this?
So now we have a President elect who believes it is OK to oppress the innocent because they do not have some ambiguous status. Perhaps if we re-define them as gender-developing, pre-oxygen breathing victims of gratuitous sexuality we could find a cause celeb to lead the effort to protect them as an endangered species. Once again, I have to ask how this could happen especially in my country, the greatest in history. America stands for truth and justice and against oppression and tyranny.
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Abraham Lincoln
