Kawasaki Syndrome is a treatable disorder that occurs in infants and children under age five - causing rashes & high fever. The illness is rarely seen in children older than 8 years old, it lasts for about 5 days with aspirin treatment & immune globulin (blood transfusions).
Joey had formed the group Actors for Autism, which helps autism sufferers make films about their lives and experiences. He first learned about the disorder as he interviewed some 65 autistic youngsters while producing the Award-Winning Documentary ('Normal People Scare Me'), but his brother John continued to dismiss autism.
The London Mirror reported many Travolta Brothers arguments were caused by discussing Jett Travolta's illness. A close friend to Joey Travolta, informed the Mirror that Joey and John often argued about what was wrong with Jett ...
"Joey could see Jett in every one of those 65 kids he spoke to (for the film.) It was so obvious Jett was autistic just from spending five minutes with him, but the cruel fact of their religion meant his parents simply did not accept it."
It was painfully obvious that Jett Travolta was autistic. He lacked any real communicative abilities or constructive thinking, constantly requiring a caretaker and being lead by the hand like a toddler. Jett was often confused by his surroundings and required a live-in caretaker/nanny (Jeff Kathrein).
In response to criticisms that John Travolta refused to give his son anti-seizure medication; Scientology lawyer Michael McDermott cited that Depakote (a medication for bi-polar disorder that helps mild epilepsy) was administered until the drug lost its effectiveness.
This writer wonders, "Why wasn't a better or alternative medication provided?" - "Is being faithful to your religion worth losing your child?"

I don't think Joey actually said that Jett was "autistic" or did I miss a source? In any case, what's the relevance of this statement. Jett Travolta died from a seizure despite the fact that he was on anti-seizure medication for years:

The article goes on to say they took him off the depakote more than a year ago and didn't replace it with any other anti-seizure medication... as would be usual in a case like this. Your comment is really about putting a pro-scientology spin on the possibly needless death, right?

Depakote is a medication for bi-polar disorder, acute mania and (depending on which type) helps with mild epilepsy. Side effects are raised levels of toxicity in the liver and birth defects in pregnant women - not seizures and death.

@Tommy, so how come scientology is currently charged with "physically" practicing medicine without a license in France? The people who wanted a kind of step-ford society did not anticipate the mothers body burden of mercury or coal powered plants emitting mercury. Wow! A person's blind-faith caused them to make poor decisions about the future of their loved ones? Gee wiz, that's never happened before.
Jett was just another victim of religion, history is *FULL* of them. The story here is not Jett's death nor his autism but that his parents are devoutly religious celebrities. So what?
Travolta's controversy is that he chose an unapproved religion to base his lame decisions on. Most celebrities bow at the alter of liberalism which results in very poor decisions for every child in the country.

Upset and incensed by the miserable deaths of 2 of his young patients and refusing to certify the deaths as due to natural causes, he referred the cases to the coroner. The scientific cases for and against the mercury hypothesis were arrayed against each other in an English court of law-surely an unusual setting for a scientific debate. The jury found that the deaths were caused by mercury poisoning from Steedman's teething powder-in one case by frank overdose and in the other because of unusual sensitivity of the child-and fearing litigation or Parliamentary action the manufacturers immediately removed the mercury from their preparations and recalled all old stocks. The other manufacturers gradually followed suit. 3 years later, in Sheffield, the intake of mercurials and the incidence of pink disease had both dropped sharply and by 1966 Warkany, the originator of the mercury hypothesis was able to write a final 'post mortem' article on pink disease in the "American Journal of Diseases of Children"-a rare, but deserved accolade for a dedicated (and lucky) medical scientist. The story illustrates the difficulty of achieving change when doctors are confronted by powerful commercial interests, and finds an echo in the 1980s in the continuing sagas of tobacco and lead. This is specially so when the companies can muster 1 or 2 experts who will say that "the evidence is not yet decisive". In truth it is still not proven beyond doubt that mercury caused pink disease and it is still possible that an epidemic virus, now fortunately passed, caused it. Of course, that explanation is very implausible and now that the disease is departed no one is sufficiently interested to do more experiments. It is also true that had the world had waited for 100% proof of cause and effect, our children would probably still be ravaged by this dreadful, but preventable disease.
In the next part we learn that when the CDC tells us that the blood is where you look for mercury, it appears they are wrong because the only reason they found pinks was mercury poisoning was in a urinary porphrin test it's the test we are using today that is showing our children are mercury are indeed heavy metal toxic.
It would be dishonest to close the pink disease story without one last remark, though as scientists we are embarrassed to have to make it. Warkany and Hubbard's original 1948 study on urinary mercury were drawn from Warkany's own practice in Cincinnati where the disease was rare and where teething powders were rarely used. Had the control urines been taken from the geographical areas where patients came from, mercury would have been found in several apparently normal, healthy children, thus making the association far less striking. If Warkany and Hubbard had done a scientifically impeccable trial, the cause might never have been noticed.

Myself, I've seen it work for many people. Actually, I haven't seen it not bring at least some improvement. The New York Firefighters say positive things about it -- that it brings at least some improvement in everyone's life who does it. And brings huge improvement, sometimes.

A lot of people are tricked by these "new age" programs to the point where they'll believe anything a medical professional says must be the lie. This is what Terryeo is going through.
My opinion - People can try whatever "cure" they'd like to, but to deny these people any knowledge of pro's & cons is dangerous, and Scientology claims 100% benefits, Where are the safeguards, Terryeo?
Scientology's detox program (such as Second Chance) is a failure because of it is nothing more than another info-mercial scam ...

John Travolta always maintained his son Jett had Kawasaki Syndrome (an illness that swells blood vessels to the heart, causing damage).
I'll ignore how KS doesn't cause seizures and continue with my point.
In a CNN interview; John stated that Jett was on Depakote for a while, that it reduced his seizures, but eventually stopped working.
John's lawyer was quoted to say that the Depakote was causing organ damage and the family (under advice from a neurosurgeon) stopped giving it to him.
Depakote can cause raised enzyme levels in the liver leading to toxicity, it's why it requires constant monitoring which the Travolta family was doing.
Some years ago - Kelly Preston told Montel Williams that Jett went through the (sauna-based) Scientology Detox Program, because they believed pesticides, or fertilizers or carpet cleaner was to blame for the KS.
They said it really helped Jett.
Tommy Davis confirmed that in a recent interview.
Now - I know this because I'm a physician, but I assumed it common knowledge that people with heart damage must stay out of hot tubes, saunas, etc - anything with extreme temperature differences, because it can kill them.
I know this wouldn't attribute to Jett's death, but still - this is where Scientology's ignorance of science & medicine rears its ugly head: If Jett Travolta had KS, then putting him in a high-temperture sauna would be the dumbest thing to do.
My view here is that the Church of Scientology is going to hang John Travolta out to dry. Because so much of their policies have effected Jett Travolta's life ... they're going to point blame away from themselves.

But the sauna based program you reference, you say, was years ago, but helpful (according to your source). I don't see that you make a point at all, but instead make a sort of suggestion about blame. I guess I can understand that you are often concerned with blame and carry insurance against blame, and so on. But since the (sauna - based) program happened years ago and was helpful, I don't follow how such experience can be responsible for Jett's sizure, years later. The swedes have been doing saunas, for health, for generations. Such programs are part and parcel of European - based health clubs. Sauna based programs are increasing, you'll find saunas in various health clubs around the USA, now.
In view of the heart damage from Kawasaki Syndrome mixed with a high temperature sauna heat; There would also be the large doses of NIACIN given during the sauna-based program.
More than 75MG of niacin can cause RAPID HEARTBEATS (among other problems), whereas the Purification Rundown starts at 100MG and can continue to 5,000MG.
John Travolta's son Jett would have had deadly RAPID HEARTBEATS, horrific abdominal pains, heavy vomiting and sever liver damage.
The deliberate ignorance of health professionals to put a child with Kawasaki Syndrome through this - is both questionable and frightening.
Wow. The silence of the Scientology apologists when faced with actual medical and scientific facts is deafening. Cyril, you have effectively called them out on one of their most telling weaknesses.
This is the hypocrisy generated by their desire on one hand to cower under the shield of supposedly being a "religion" -hey folks, you can't hold us accountable for anything 'cause it's just a FAITH! (and BTW if you comment in any way on us, that's a "hate crime") . . . . and on the other hand to make veiled and ambiguous claims that point towards their being able to provide members with tangible real-world benefits (perfect memory! flushing out toxins! super powers!) which is a primary recruiting strategy for the scam.
Once again you can see that Scientology has no buisiness being involved in anything to do with medicine. They are the authorities in getting people killed and brainwashed that that is it.

They have the so called "volunteer ministers" that are sent to any major disaster area. Why? To convert people. There is another name for these people, "vulture ministers" and it was not created by Anonymous. It is the name given to scientology VM's by the Red Cross and other major and serious aid organizations.
You don't see Anonymous stumbling around in disaster areas getting in the way of real aid workers and police with the intent of recruiting members. Why does scientology do this? The money. It's that simple. They want money out of these people as they recover and they know how to get it from people in a vulnerable state.
