Topic: Article V Convention
The Proper End to the U.S. Civil War could begin 2009 The 148 year Jeffersonian free market versus the Hamiltonian mercantilist war could be ended in 2009, for the good of Liberty, without a single bullet fired.by Nickalis N. Tower

On 12 December 2008, according to WorldNetDaily, (Link), "U.S. now only 2 states away from rewriting Constitution." Apparently 34 are needed, and there have been 32 since the 80s that have called for one.
Based on other research I've done I agree with the facts of the states that were listed, but I disagree with the author's estimate of whether a Const. Convention would be good. Despite the fearful tone of the article, which is penned to make it appear that Obama and the Democrats would destroy the results of any Constitutional Convention with regard to achieving a more prosperous America, I am very hopeful about this news. The reasons are many, but I'll list the most obvious: 1) Obama is not King George the III, nor Abraham Lincoln, 2) Obama had new voters -- minorities, women, and youth of America who elected him -- not mercenaries from germany, and not an armed british regime, 3) In July 2008, the U.S. Supreme court affirmed the 2nd amendment is an INDIVIDUAL, not a COLLECTIVIST STATIST right, and 4) We still have the 1st amendment in this country, defending free speech... aka this article is published on the internet for the world to witness.
To a Candid World
If it is true that there are brave congressional delegates ready to step forward at this, America's most bleak hour, to do the right thing and fix America's lost liberties and property rights and individual rights, then this is a holiday season that all libertarians, and indeed all proud Americans, should be celebrating and rest in the hope of a brighter tomorrow. For not only America would benefit from a rational Constitutional Convention at this hour, but indeed the entire world would benefit from seeing us make a proper example, by reforming our quite imperfect union once again. As the trite saying goes 'Third time is a charm'.
After 148 years, only two more states are apparently needed to run the Federalists out of town! Could this be the real reason the fiat bankers are hoarding 2.4 Trillion? To run away and never come back to America? Let's hope so.
Which States want a Constitutional Convention?
The WorldNetDaily article mentions only 25 of the players, but two days prior, on 10 Dec 2008, the Tower Liberty Institute (headed by yours truly) had already made an estimate of states who are philosophically opposing the nationalization efforts of the Federal Reserve. This was done based on an AP article (Link) regarding the Senate vote against the automotive industry bailout. That article mentioned 25 states in the senate that opposed the auto industry bailout vote on 10 Dec 2008.
Taking an inventory of the auto bailout nationalization opposition, and the WorldNetDaily Const. Convention supporters, a very interesting puzzle was snapped together: 32 states were revealed! "The old south has risen again!", and this time, they've brought some key old Union states with them. Before you think this is a racist area of the country anymore, remember that Obama's election map covers many of these states, who are now united for the cause of liberty. Besides, the 'Yankee myth' of southern racism and northern anti-racism prior to 1860 have been disproven in a scholarly book: "The South was Right!"
The question remains: which two states remain that will be willing to call for a Constitutional Convention in 2009? My original guess (in December) ws that Massachussetts and Virginia would be the next two, which would yield the 34 states needed. But according to another recent Nolan article by Bill Walker (link), Ohio is the 33rd state seriously considering it as of this month (January 2009). This means my bet is on Hawaii being the 34th state, in the spirit of Barack Obama's historic election, I think the free-thinking, anti-racist, positive culture in Hawaii would be a fitting crown jewel for the 34th state calling for a constitutional convention.

Soon I'll post my 'Freedom Bag' reading list, which will be some of my favorite books regarding American economics, politics, and history. If our leaders are going to be brave enough to see this through, then we have to re-educate ourselves as "true-blue" Americans who understand our Founding Principles and the principles of valid state and economic separation.
If we want to re-form America into a country of GREATER instead of LESS liberty, we have to make our voice heard NOW: WE WANT A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION IN 2009!
I can sense those patriotic brave delegates waiting secretly in the wings for this moment. I can TASTE FREEDOM. Let's do this NOW! I don't want to wait a lifetime for liberty.
Happy Holidays, and happy 2009, fellow libertarian spirited Americans!

Nick promises us a "freedom bag" reading list of his favorite books in the near future. However, for those who can't wait (and I'm sure there must be at least 2 or 3 of you out there who can't), here are some books that are sure to appear on it:
1) "Pinnocchio" ~ the tale of a puppet whose nose grew each time he lied; but in the end he becomes a "real boy" who still continues to lie. It reminds Nick a lot of the articles he writes ~ hero adulation, drooling fascination, and egregiously misconstrued opinions.
2) "(If) I Did It" ~ the story of how OJ Simpson would have killed Nicole Brown Simpson if he had; this will give you the kind of philosophical foundation to assert your independence and show those with whom you disagree that you're not going to be ignored any longer.
3) "The Oklahoma City Bombing" ~ this is good reading for those who want to tear down the Federal Reserve and try to take over the American government so that things are done YOUR way. There is a chapter on unregulated GUN OWNERSHIP for those who are also interested in that.
4) "A Dreamer's Guide to Political Elections" ~ this book has lengthy chapters on how EXTREME political ideas can be discussed so that they sound appealing to the RADICAL FRINGE, and has 10 suggestions for ideas that will make the mainstream media ignore your candidates completely.
5) "Alice In Wonderland" ~ a book so full of imaginary characters and hallucenogenic dreams that it will be the perfect match to go with books by Ron Paul, Murray Rothbard, and Antal Fekete (just for you, Jake).

Hi Nickalis,
Stranger things have happened I suppose. I wouldn't bet that a Constitutional Congress could be convened in the next 40 year but should that come to pass, I doubt it will be anything a liberty loving individual could take heart from.
Most of the leaders of both relevant political parties believe in central planning and big government intervention in the market at any and all levels. They believe in economic fantasy that doing the same things that have always led to ruin in the past will miraculously result in puppies and ponies for everyone this time.
As evidenced by the percentage of Americans who voted for Obama and McCain, who both support the big government central economic planning, most Americans also believe in this ridiculous, irrational and disastrous policy. Now is not the time when I'd dare to open the lid on the Constitution. Given the current passionate ignorance regarding economic actions and consequence nothing good for liberty could possibly come from a convention composed of delegates chosen from that pool of voters.
Rather than hope for long-shot magic bullets and singular historical flukes, I just wish more people would roll up their sleeves and start using the GOP to groom candidates who will defend liberty rather than sitting back and continuing to watch the neocons pick candidates who will undermine liberty. Maybe my dream is as silly as yours but at least I can do something to influence mine on a daily basis.

There is an incredible amount of inaccurate information and intentional disinformation about the provision in Article V of OUR Constitution for a convention of state delegates to consider proposals for constitutional amendments. The only and only requirement to have a convention has long been met, but Congress refuses to obey the Constitution. Learn all the facts at www.foavc.org and join our national, nonpartisan group.
I'll simply point out that according to public record all 50 states have submitted over 650 applications for a convention well in excess of the 34 all admit needs be submitted. The actual texts of the applications can be read at www.foavc.org.
I strongly urge all to go to the site and learn the true facts about a convention.
