Step Aside Government: Part 2 Fear of the unknown appears to be what has scared people away from a 100% voluntary “society”. Lets address those fears right now.by Dan Steward

Perhaps it is the fear of what kind of characters might pop up to threaten such a voluntary society that have them on edge. Just about everyone I know tells me that I'm a nice, kind, and thoughtful man. With that in mind, I'd like to do what I can to help and get rid of those unfounded fears.
Good folks that have responded to my first article speak of "anarchy" and "thugs", To them I say "you gotta be kidding me, right?" Please tell me that you are reasonable people and are not scared by some apocalyptic view of the future that you might have saw in a movie somewhere.
I'd hate to think that something along the lines of a Mel Gibson film (or anything similar) would have otherwise sane and rational people cowering under the bed in abject horror. That is just too sad for words to even start to describe.
"The Road Warrior" was just a film, nothing more. Those "boogeymen" as scary as they were, are only actors and their work exists only on DVD & VHS format. They can't hurt you or take your stuff.
We already got the "thugs" that use force or the threat of force to get what they want out of those they claim to serve, they're currently called "government". If you just have to fear something, fear them, as they're real.
A voluntary society is exactly the opposite of that. There is no incentive to use force, as it has been eliminated. The coercive society has something in it for such thugs, as the evidence of it is quite plentiful. The voluntary society on the other hand, has nothing of the kind for a strongman nor his minions to gain from it.
Power mad "warlords" could TRY to spring up from time to time, just like any street gang would attempt to have it's day in the sun. Please feel free to ask yourself "what kind of true power do they really have over our lives"? I am sure you know the answer to that.
An armed populace would quickly push them back. Ask yourself also if you are making quite a big assumption that enough people would want to join such a stupid gang in the first place. The gang by default, would have no legitimacy as well as no means to empower themselves if no black market could exist to fund their operations. They'd have nothing going for them to make them powerful from the start. If they have no power then they are no threat to peace and freedom.
You can do what you like, yet I'm not going to let an irrational fear of the unknown frighten me away from the ideals of a free "society" based on Liberty and the free market. These are what motivates me and are proven to work. Look at what we have now with government taking more than half your pay and constantly scheming to grab more, while bossing you around and telling you what you can and can't do with your property, your body, your business, your very existence.
Just how's that working out for you right now?
With Liberty,
Dan Steward
