Parallels: America and Rome/Part One

Building upon my Statist counterpart's worthy submission--hey, I took the survey and ended up a Libertarian; what can I say?--almost a decade ago I came across this interesting, and quite alarming, parallel between ancient Rome and modern America...

Sparticus and his legion of gladiators march upon Rome....

Sparticus, as being an individual of historical fact; and as being also the title of a classic movie starring Kirk Douglas (which, by the way, desperately deserves a modern remake); and as being also the subject of an obscure progressive rock album by a German group named Triumvirat circa the 1970's; and as being also indeed a subject which decidedly needs to be revisited--especially in that this historical fact parallels the scenario of current events all -to- closely...

...as my colleague on the Nolan Chart has, as a Statist , (he being at the opposite end of the political spectrum as am I, I being a Libertarian--he has thankfully and appreciatedly) dared to call into play the historical parallels between the historical Roman empire and the current world empire of the United States of America in his very worthy submission entitled , "America and Rome: Compare" --this calls to me for additional commentary on my part as it concerns the subject...

...although I have not read it, his assessment of Orson Scott Card's book "Empire" as being :

"...a civil war between left-wing, hi-tech lunatics and hardcore, right-wing survivalist. That premise, I felt, wasn't very realistic..."

...is, in fact, a realism that I have felt myself caught up in currently--I being the hardcore, right-wing survivalist holding out against the left-wing, hi-tech lunatics and it is happening now, right under our noses--and it could come down to a civil war if I were called to stand upon my conservative, Christian principles instead of what they would force upon us--and that's what really scares the left-wing, hi-tech lunatics--and in this I would not take up arms, but rather I would take up the faith of my fathers' and the truth of my Lord--this being what they are really afraid of...

...nonetheless, before 9-11 ever came to pass; before Iraq's weapons of mass destruction ever came into question, an astute student of history named Michael Rivero dared to point out the historical lesson of Rome and Sparticus and in this gave free license for any and all to pass it on...

"Fake Terrorism -
The Road To Dictatorship
By Michael Rivero

It's the oldest trick in the book, dating back to Roman times; creating the enemies you need.

In 70 BC, an ambitious minor politician and extremely wealthy man, Marcus Licineus Crassus, wanted to rule Rome. Just to give you an idea of what sort of man Crassus really was, he is credited with invention of the fire brigade. But in Crassus' version, his fire-fighting slaves would race to the scene of a burning building whereupon Crassus would offer to buy it on the spot for a tiny fraction of it's worth. If the owner sold, Crassus' slaves would put out the fire. If the owner refused to sell, Crassus allowed the building to burn to the ground. By means of this device, Crassus eventually came to be the largest single private landholder in Rome, and used some of his wealth to help back Julius Caesar against Cicero.

In 70 BC Rome was still a Republic, which placed very strict limits on what Rulers could do, and more importantly NOT do. But Crassus had no intentions of enduring such limits to his personal power, and contrived a plan.

Crassus seized upon the slave revolt led by Sparticus in order to strike terror into the hearts of Rome, whose garrison Sparticus had already defeated in battle. But Sparticus had no intention of marching on Rome itself, a move he knew to be suicidal. Sparticus and his band wanted nothing to do with the Roman empire and had planned from the start merely to loot enough money from their former owners in the Italian countryside to hire a mercenary fleet in which to sail to freedom.

Sailing away was the last thing Crassus wanted Sparticus to do. He needed a convenient enemy with which to terrorize Rome itself for his personal political gain. So Crassus bribed the mercenary fleet to sail without Sparticus, then positioned two Roman legions in such a way that Sparticus had no choice but to march on Rome.

Terrified of the impending arrival of the much-feared army of gladiators, Rome declared Crassus Praetor. Crassus then crushed Sparticus' army and even though Pompeii took the credit, Crassus was elected Consul of Rome the following year.

With this maneuver, the Romans surrendered their Republican form of government. Soon would follow the first Triumvirate, consisting of Crassus, Pompeii, and Julius Caesar, followed by the reign of the god-like Emperors of Rome.

The Romans were hoaxed into surrendering their Republic, and accepting the rule of Emperors.

Julius Caesar's political opponent, Cicero, for all his literary accomplishments, played the same games in his campaign against Julius Caesar, claiming that Rome was falling victim to an internal "vast right wing" conspiracy in which any expressed desire for legislative limits no government was treated as suspicious behavior. Cicero, in order to demonstrate to the Romans just how unsafe Rome has become hired thugs to cause as much disturbance as possible, and campaigned on a promise to end the internal strife if elected and granted extraordinary powers. "

...we can, or at least should, plainly see the historical parallels to recent and current events...

This is just the beginning part of his disertation which initially involves the history of Rome. He subsequently continues to reiterate other similar, later historical parallels.

Herein we see that it has been historically demonstrated to us that "terrorism" has been in the past used  as a contrived tactic which has been initiated  artificially in order to convince the "we the people" faction of society to forfeit its rights in order to maintain its "security."

This is simple--cut and dried--but the second part of Parallels: American and Rome is a bit more complex...

...but in an aside, a comment posted to Logical Premise's America and Rome: Compare took great exception to something that I thought was not so apparent in the article itself, that being that, in a state of emergency, the current Bush administration could remain in power despite the results of the current election...after all, what a perfect scenario--nobody really wanted Obama or McCain anyway...

...I have a friend who was at one time an electronics engineer.  As such he was involved in initially developing what has become the RFID chip.  As such he attended some NWO meetings, not as a big dog, but rather as tech support.  When Henry Kissinger said, "You cannot control people unless you can possitively identify them," my friend was called upon to describe to the NWO elite how positive ID was possible given this technology and how it would work...

...within this scenario he was privy to certain things that he later shared with me.  One thing was that he was present at these NWO meetings when it was decided that Bill Clinton would be elected.  And also that Clinton would be a two term President.  And also that he would be the last full term President...

...now you can read a lot between the lines of this--but given the factors of the current contrived terrorism and the current contrived economic and financial crisis one could see how that our Republic could be suspended and an Emporer installed...

...Lord help us, don't let it be Emporer Napoleon Bush...
