Open Letter to President-Elect Obama Despite his campaign promises, President-Elect Obama's preliminary picks for cabinet posts have failed to include bipartisan selections. Given our current economic climate, who he chooses for the Post of Treasury Secretary will signal how he intends to handle this crisis. I nominate Rep. Ron Paul.by John L. Jones

President (Elect) Obama,
Congratulations on your success in this year's election. America has spoken and your message of change clearly appealed to the American people. I wish you all the best in pursuing the agenda you have put forth. While I must admit you did not garner my vote, I understand the reasons behind your success. This country sincerely needs and desires immense changes.
My purpose, in this message, is to appeal to your promise to reach out to players across America's political spectrum when considering your cabinet officials. As I'm sure you understand, our nation will face immense budget and funding crises over the coming decades. We can undoubtedly agree that we do not want the future of our children hampered by our nation's debt. For this reason, I implore you to adopt a policy of moving America towards a sound monetary system, rather than our current fractional reserve system based on debt.
The most effective way of impressing the importance of this issue upon the American people would be to appoint Congressman Ron Paul to the post of Secretary of the Treasury. This gesture would send a powerful message to the world and leave no room for doubt that America realizes its importance as a stabilizing economic force on the world stage.
While some of the portion of the electorate that did not vote for you seek to resist and impede the efforts of your administration, there are those of us who have heard your statements concerning bi-partisanship and felt your sincerity. We are willing to work with you and hope you hold true to your campaign promises of bi-partisan involvement in the administration. Thank you for your time.
Very Respectfully,
SrA John L. Jones

If I were Obama and I got this letter, I'd PIN IT ON A WALL somewhere and LAUGH AT IT everytime I went past it!
He's not interested in reaching out to "players across America's political spectrum" and he's certainly NOT going to consider someone like RON PAUL to TEAR DOWN THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM.
Like a good coach, Obama is going to pick a team that HARMONIZES under his philosophy and FOLLOWS his views. What you're advocating is not only CHAOS but picking people BECAUSE of their DIFFERENCES with him, not their WILLINGNESS to FOLLOW HIS PLAN.
You ought to stick to tee-ball coaching. Maybe the little kids will listen to your ideas.

Master C,
I harbor no illusions about Obama's intentions. A boy can dream though, can't he? The letter was just my way of saying the emperor has no clothes, which is evidenced by his failure to hole true to his campaign promises (about his cabinet), so far.
There's no reason not to hold out an olive branch to the administration anyways. Who knows, maybe, somehow, he actually meant what he said when he made promises about his cabinet.
The letter was for fun, and was a healthy way of voicing my frustration.
John
p.s. little league coaching sounds fun. I should look into that ;-)
Are you really a "boy"? I wasn't aware that children were allowed to contribute to this website. You wrote that "A boy can dream, can't he?", so I stand corrected. Some people might say that's just an expression. But, so is "A girl can dream, can't she?" and you didn't use that one.
You keep repeating that phrase about Obama making a campaign promise about his cabinet like you're driving a nail into a board. I certainly don't remember anything at all about him saying that he was going to "reach out to players across America's political spectrum". In fact, he probably used the word "playas" if he said that, and that might not mean the same thing to you as it does to him.
I didn't detect any "frustration" in your article, all I detected was someone submitting an article about which they hadn't thought very much.
In regards to my frustration. If you look at how I signed the letter I used the title "SrA" the abbreviation for the Air Force rank of Senior Airman. Unfortunately my active duty status prevents me from being overly partisan or sensational. President-Elect Obama is about to become my new boss and as such It would be unwise for me to vent personal frustrations in a flamboyant manner.
I served two years in the Army during the Viet Nam era ~ 70 -72. I was drafted. For my feelings about the military, you should read my article about "What Is A Soldier."
