Letter to Ron Paul Ron Paul letterby Emerson Garland
(libertarian)
Monday, November 10, 2008
Dear Dr. Paul,
First, I would like to thank you for everything you've done for our liberties, our fiscal policy and our nation. My name is Emerson Garland and I, like many of your supporters, am a young college student.
I was a Freshman when your campaign for presidency began growing. As an undecided student with no idea or true desire to devote myself to a specific area of study, I felt lost. I remember waking up that chilly November morning to a sea of letters etched with chalk in every side walk and step across campus that composed your name. Slightly annoyed, I found myself googling and youtubing those letters later that evening out of curiosity and later addiction. That addiction has been one of the best moments of my life. For hours that night I searched and searched but I couldn't get enough. To be honest, I had hardly any stable- let alone principled-views of government. However, I felt as if I was mirrored into the world of politics, and that these newfound-soon to be learned ideals were mine all along as if they ran in my blood.
From that wonderful day on I devoted myself to politics-especially your form of politics. I told everyone I knew about your message. From painting my delivery truck with your name to donating a months worth of pay to your campaign, I found myself loving what I was doing. Your message became as important to me as my family and struck just as close to my heart.
That spring I declared my majors. Political Science and Economics. That spring I knew what I wanted for the rest of my life. That spring I had an idol that filled the empty void in my personality. And, for now and forever, I possess the words of a true patriot. For words, unlike governments and policies, never die, and in my life, will never silent.
Some would say "Dr. Paul cured my apathy." Others might refer to you as "Dr. No." but to me, you were much more than that. You were the guiding light in a world of confusion that no one else could illuminate. The logical arguments you dare to make shatter even the most disguising cloak of a poor house resolution.
What happens now or in the future is unknown. Battles throughout the world will never cease, Washington will continue to compliment the same shameful endeavors to 12th grade civics books, but I know that if you can transform the most subliminal thoughts of mine into such activism, then there must be at least 535 more hearts and souls that you have touched just like mine.
Change did not come in this election but this movement is destined to mature and when it does, whether I'm sitting on the sidelines or the frontline, I'll have you to thank again. The United States will remember your name forever. Not as a villain or a presidential nominee, but as a man who gave more to his country than I could fathom. So, Honorable Dr. Ron Paul, I thank you for everything you've done for our country and my future life.

I haven't seen your name before; if you're new, welcome to the Chart. I was happy to approve your article, and I'm happy to thumb it. If you don't mind, though, I have a couple of things that might give you a better article. (1) wanton isn't right here, as the you need a noun; I'd use something like 'desire' or 'passion.' (2) I'd change chilly to snowy, as that not only makes the point it's cold, but makes it clear that Dr. Paul's name was written in the snow, not carved into the sidewalks or something else destructive.

Throughout time it seems that libertarians nearly always lose., especially if you count surviving as winning like I do. Clinically speaking, its pretty amusing how I always fall back on Washington, Paine, Jefferson, Spooner, and others from hundreds of years ago. All told, its a pretty lucky thing that Paul was around to wake some of us up. While we still have breath, we will fight on. Take care dude! (and its 'souls' not 'soles') :)
THANK YOU DR. PAUL. EMERSON IS RIGHT, YOU'VE TOUCHED MANY OF US IN A VERY MEANINGFUL WAY, AND THE MOVEMENT SHALL CONTINUE UNTIL WE GET OUR COUNTRY BACK.
Emerson, as one who's been fighting for Constitutional government for more than 20 years, your words are music to my ears. To see so many in your generation take the side of liberty instead of Marxism is uplifting and encouraging. I appreciate and understand your enthusiasm because I share it.
My only advice is to be patient and persistant... don't get discouraged when it seems like nothing you (we) do produces success. Our time has yet to come but victory will be ours. There are more of "us" out here than you think because "they" have intentionally tried to marginalize us... make us feel isolated and insignificant. Look at what "they" did to Ron Paul! How lonely do you think he has felt all those years serving in that cesspool of graft and corrpution?!? Yet he stood strong... unyielding in his committment to liberty and freedom. And the fruit of that committment has been the resurgence of Constitutional loyalty - loyalty that will be fueled by the failures of the expanding fascist Marxism America will continue to experience over the coming years.
In all seriousness, if you are considering a political career think about getting a law degree. The law practice is one of the few fields that encourage its members into becomming elected officials.

Emerson, I'm glad there are Libertarians like you willing to go at it full time. I really wish the Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, and Boston tea party would merge, just as I wish Revolution March, DounSizeDC, We The People Foundation, and the Campain for Liberty would also work much more closely together. With energetic folks like you and a more united army, we could really make change around here!

Dear Jesse -
Whatever the appeal, I don't think even the Panic of 1837 or '73 or whatever crisis you wish in the 1800s had the potential to cause so much misery and pain as the current economy does - and HAS already done.
No, RP never had a chance in 08 to be president.... unless this latest economic pain started in 2006 instead of 2007, unless we didnt have a deadbeat 2-party system, unless.....
I supported RP financially and from the above letter, it looks like I didnt waste a dime. Peace!
I propose an experiment where someone creates an article and all that is said in the article is "RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL". Let's see how many thumbs it gets.
