A Vote Against McCain is a Vote Against Socialism Conservatives in Virginia and across America should reject McCain's socialism just like Obama's.by Patrick

Most conservatives I know are voting against Obama's wide ranging socialist agenda by voting for John McCain. Clearly, if Obama becomes president, he will push for a more liberal supreme court, amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, higher taxes, and even more Federal government borrowing and spending. This nightmare, with a Democrat controlled Congress, will certainly become a reality if Obama is elected. Unfortunately, if McCain becomes president, we should expect him to promote the same agenda. Which is why I'm voting against McCain and I recommend all Virginia conservatives do the same. To make the conservative movement relevant to American society again, we need to reject all socialism, oppose all politicians who have supported socialism, and realize that we can not achieve our goals through the ballot box alone.
Most conservatives, and all Republican loyalist, have given up on the conservative principles once championed by Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan. It's not surprising then that they would support McCain. But for those of you who have not yet fallen for the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" lie, I urge you to continue to resist. An honest assessment of the conservative movement would report that we have failed on every important measure. Our influence is in decline, politicians seek our support during elections then mock us when they gain office, and the Nation at large believes our current misfortune is our fault, not that of the socialists. Voting for McCain can only result in a continuation of this trend. We are in this situation because of our tendency to compromise and support socialists like McCain because we fear that the Democrat alternative is even more socialist.
Before you vote on Tuesday, answer this question, if Al Gore proposed to vastly increase the Federal government, increase borrowing from foreign nations, increase nation-building, increase socialist programs, and increase legal and illegal immigration, would conservatives have supported that agenda? If you agree with me that the answer to that question is "no", then why did conservatives vote for George Bush twice? Why would conservatives even consider voting for McCain now?
Many are attracted to McCain because he is a war hero and he does promote a compelling story about his service as a prisoner of war. He evokes our most patriotic sentiments. But as conservatives, we also believe in traditional family values. McCain is a classic wife swapper. His first wife was married when he met her. And soon after returning from Vietnam, he cheated on her even though she was loyal to him, honored her marriage vows, and raised their children when he was gone. If we value personal character in our politicians, like McCain's war hero status, we should also consider McCain's disloyalty to his wife, his opportunism in marrying a millionaire, and his adultery.
More importantly however, is McCain's distain for the U.S. Constitution. Not only is he not a conservative, it is illogical to expect that he would appoint judges that adhere to a constructionist viewpoint of the Constitution. Consider McCain-Feingold from a common sense perspective. Why would any conservative want to limit the freedom of individual Americans to voice their political opinions? Of course this is contrary to our conservative principles and the First Amendment prohibits it. McCain claimed that we needed to regulate political speech so that we could control the money in politics. Has it worked? Lastly, the enumerated powers in the Constitution do not give Congress any power to limit free speech.
Unfortunately, McCain does not believe that the enumerated powers apply to him or to Congress, which is why he is currently promoting a program where the Federal Government would spend $300 billion to subsidize sub-prime mortgages to help struggling borrowers. Also, he wants to tax health care provided by employers and then redistribute those funds via health care tax credits. The list goes on and plenty of conservatives have chronicled McCain's socialist beliefs and the evidence that McCain will be much worse then Bush is mounting. Even now, as he campaigns in this state, he offers more socialism, more spending, and more borrowing. He does not understand basic economics and is ignorant about the long-term fiscal problems the Nation faces. He talks about "cutting pork" as if it plays a significant role in the government's deficit spending. It does not.
Ultimately, if conservatives really care about the future of the Nation, we must vote against McCain for every reason that makes us conservatives. Our focus must shift from this election to supporting conservative politicians in the Republican, Libertarian, and Constitution parties. Many conservatives want to pretend that John McCain is not a socialist but to argue otherwise is to twist the plain meaning of socialism, just like John McCain twists the plain meaning of the U.S. Constitution. In this election, conservatives should punt. Let the Democrats have the ball for two years. We will play defense using all means available to us. We need to reform the Republican Party and send the socialist like McCain to the Democrat Party. We need to change our language so that we properly identify socialist programs, like Social Security, as socialist. We need to change our agenda from "saving Social Security" to ending Social Security and every other Federal socialist program. We need to speak honestly to our fellow Americans about what will happen if we do not reject socialism in totality. Compromising with socialist like John McCain is what has gotten us into this mess and we should do it no longer.
In summary, conservatives should vote against the socialism offered by both major parties. We should make a clean break from the failed tactics of the conservative movement. We should accept that we were betrayed by the Bushes, the Gingriches, the McCains, the Neo-Conservatives, the Compassionate-Conservatives, and all the other hyphenated, fake conservatives. We need to now focus on our future, chart a new course with honesty, courage, love for liberty, and respect for the freedom of future generations.

Hi Patrick,
There is, unfortunately, no way to tell if a vote was cast "against" something. The information contained in a vote can only indicate that it was cast FOR something. What it was cast against is irrelevant and unknowable to everyone but the person making the ballot mark.
I hope you keep looking for that CONSERVATIVE SAVIOR whom you think is going to be popular again. By then, we LIBERALS will have SOCIALIZED EVERYTHING! Ha! Ha!
