How Much Time Do We Have Left? An email I received recently claimed the average lifespan of a great civilization is 200 years and in that span they follow the following pattern.
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. from dependence back into bondage;by Jahfre Fire Eater

The USA was set up as a Constitutional Republic and NOT a Democracy. Too bad our President and many other Americans have no clue what the difference is. Public schools make sure each generation has a weaker grasp on the nature of our government and how to keep it in check. Every child they touch is taught that "You can't fight the Man!"
I don't think we have any time left at all. I think the USA was destroyed the day the Senate passed the $800 Billion bail out bill. The size doesn't matter. The fact that the Senate, both parties in collusion, circumvented the constitution to originate a spending bill in the senate is what signified the end of the USA. Their ends justify their means and the Constitution be damned. The only thing that makes this a country, let alone a great country, is the US Constitution. Flawed as it is, it couldn't protect us from today's mess so it is obviously not a perfect document, the rule of law as defined by the US Constitution is no longer followed by the Congress or either of the future presidents. America is toast.
In a Republic, the problems start when politicians realize they can curry favor with voters by PROMISING to give them great gifts. What they actually deliver to the public is a poison pill with sugar coating; while they end up with a huge pile of loot. The coating is designed to wear off sometime after the politician's career is over. The next generation laughs at the folly of those suffering the poison pill yet they eagerly buy the next one offered by a politician. Americans have very short memories and very little education in how to recognize the inevitable consequences of political policies. Therefore, each new generation is ready and eager to be fooled again into thinking they can spend their way to prosperity or be entitled to the productivity of others or to get something for nothing or to erode incentives but still get the same productivity as when the incentives were valuable.
There was a time when conservative Republicans stood up against this kind of moral decrepitude. Not any more. Since Reagan's first term there has not been a GOP leader who stood up against this immoral attack on the American citizens and America's survival. I doubt there ever will be another such GOP leader. Even Ronald Reagan's resolve was diluted by his liberal economic advisors. By his second term I could no longer support him for his immorality against the individual. Liberalism has won the hearts and minds of the GOP just as surely as it has those of the Democrats. Liberalism always defeats individuals who lack principles. Principles, like faith, are what you cling to when everything else has gone crazy. Today's GOP has abandoned principles and has started staunchly advocating and defending Socialism. Principles, like faith, are not malleable. Either you have them or you don't, there is no blurry line in between. They exist as naturally occurring, positive influences on behavior. Principles require one to align the consequences of their behavior with their stated goals. Faith does not. People of the same faith can make exactly the opposite policy decisions. People of the same principles always make the same policy decisions. Good government depends on principles being valued; liberalism depends on principles being discarded. The GOP just discarded every last remaining tidbit of principle by becoming Socialists of the worst kind. Those who don't know they are Socialists but just think they are doing the right thing based on their faith, not their principles.
While the rest of the world struggles back into bondage from various stages of abundance, complacency, apathy and dependence, I remain rooted in deep courage, striving for Liberty, because I refuse to be blinded by spiritual faith, abundance, complacency, apathy or dependence. I will escape the country before I accept bondage. Liberty can only exist as a counter point to all the rest of those things. It isn't something that is attained and held stable; liberty is never equal for any two individuals. Liberty is an ideal to work towards; the struggle is never ending because all those other states of humanity are working against your liberty every day every step of the way.

Your article has a ring to it, I wrote and article a few months ago about the same thing. I referred to the 200 year lifespan and I truly believe it to be true. I believe you are right that our time is up but we still have the ability to take back our government. Just like the socialists did, it will take about 3 decades (well after I'm dead and gone) to weed ourselves of the enemy within and vote new blood into the system. The problem is what will we have left to work with after Obama, Pelosi and Reid get through? Hopefully we'll somehow get a break and McCain will win, I believe he will do less damage.
