Living an a small rural town where the majority of the people are fairly conservative it is interesting to me when I get legitimate comments from those who think differently. I'm not talking about the whacko left who spout nothing but talking points from the liberal handbook, I mean comments from real hardworking Americans who because of different circumstances in their lives have different ideas. I try to understand their reasons for feeling the way they do as I'm sure they try to understand my point of view. Circumstances have a tremendous amount to do with a persons politics. Not all poor people are liberal democrats just as not all rich people are republicans.
I have been through many elections in my day and seldom have I felt as afraid as I do now for my country. I honestly feel we are having our countries honor and sole stolen from us. I have tried to look to this election as I have so many others with the attitude that it really doesn't matter which candidate wins, America will still be America when we wake up on the 5th of November. I can't convince myself that this is true this time. I have talked to literally hundreds of people of all walks of life and I think many have been sold a bill of goods that can't be delivered on.
Most of the older Democrats I have talked to have no idea of how liberal an Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Dodd and Frank government could be. Not one of the older Dems I asked like the way the liberalization of morals have taken over our society. They are extremely affronted by the same sex marriage principles that the party expounds. They really don't want to turn on their TV and see nudity and foul language in prime time. They are absolutely amazed at the lack of education due to the dumbing down of our scholastic principles that our children are receiving. They really get upset when you show them the way our Social Security System is being looted by people who have never paid a dime into it.
My family was always staunch democrats, good union people and proud of the way the party always looked out for the working man. Both my mother and father are gone now and I'm glad they didn't live to see what their party has become. My Mother and Father always worked for everything they got as did the rest of our family, they had little respect for those who thought the government should be their provider. My family took in other kids when their families couldn't or wouldn't support them. From the days of my older brothers to my time we always seem to have an extra seat at the table when someone was hungry. It wasn't just food they provided, it was a sense of pride and self confidence they instilled in so many. The government didn't tell them to do it or even provide money for the act of kindness it was just the American way to them.
My dad would read about Socialism and Communism in the Book of Knowledge especially when my brother was in Korea. He would always point out how it was evil because it took away a persons pride and dignity and more than anything it took away their desire to achieve all they were capable of, that's what we're fighting in Korea for he would tell us. He used to say America is truly a land of opportunity, you can be all that you have the gumption to be. My Dad really believed in what he said and I guess those values were passed to my brothers and I and we have tried to pass them on to our children.
The term Democrat and Republican don't mean squat anymore, the parties have become so polarized that they can't even function as a government body. I don't feel a tinge of loyalty to either party anymore but I do feel a strong sense of loyalty to those who have passed before us and paid for this wonderful country we call home. I will fight to my dying day for a persons right to an opinion but when they sell that opinion with a bill of goods based on lies and deceit I will do all in my power to defeat them.

Ditto to all. Everything you said about the Democratic Party can be applied to the Republican party as well. Every single thing. What has become the soul of the Republican party? No matter who wins in the upcomming election, the American people will lose. We are being given a choice between advancing fascism or communism.
Boo-hoo-hoo! Don's so distraught because the world is moving away from those old fashioned bootstraps that he used to pull up so gratefully. He's so upset that the... dare we even say it? the GAYS might actually want to have the SAME RIGHTS (not superior, not special), just the SAME RIGHTS as non-gays to visit their ill partners in hospitals, to share coverage on insurance policies, and to have civil wedding ceremonies that announce their love to the world.Â
And, it's such a shame that liberals want you to put away those GUNS of yours. Statistics say that most people are killed by someone they KNOW! And, of course you need those ASSAULT RIFLES for all sorts of reasons! I'll bet the deer hunting is really nice with those.Â
And, why shouldn't we continue to have a profit-seeking healthcare system? Actually, it's a SICKcare system because the only things covered are when you get sick. If you belong to a health club, eat lots of vegetables, take vitamins, don't smoke, and keep your weight down, you get NOTHING! Balloon up to 460 pounds, keep eating those Big Macs, and you get covered for whatever happens to you. Ignore the fact that THE ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD has socialized medicine; just say it's anti-American and cry about losing the old fashioned profit system. I love the thought of that profit meter running right next to the hospital bed every time someone gets sick. Run up the bill! Let those who are insured pay for it! Don't help the other 40 million who are not. Just keep telling everyone that they'll get taken care of somehow.
And keep invading other countries, capture some of their people, don't allow them to have a trial or a hearing, just lock them up, and KEEP THEM THERE until you decide to do something with them. After all, they're foreigners ~ they don't have any rights.
Obama and the MOST LIBERAL people you can think of are going to rub your nose in the SOCIALISM that you hate so much. We're going to make you SHARE, PAY LOTS OF TAXES, GIVE UP YOUR GUNS, HELP THE POOR and DISADVANTAGED, and even MAKE FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD. Ha! Ha! Ha!Â
Nothing will give me greater pleasure than to see another crybaby cry!
Master C of what, you are the reason why so many of us hate liberals. You can't read something that others feel without mocking and trying to look smart. Let me tell you something Gomer you will lose in the long run even if Obama wins. I hope he takes your money first, oh I forgot your probably on welfare already and will get in line to get your check.

Master C, your ilk will not always have the stranglehold on the Democratic Party that it has now. Google Bob Conley. Decent, freedom-loving, hard-working people will run your kind out of town on a rail one of these days, and it won't be a moment too soon.
I am sure if you went to visit Jack Kennedy's grave you would hear the sound of rapid rotation emenating from the ground. Look up his Berlin speech. He was no lover of socialism. He was a member of the NRA. He signed an executive order dismantling the Federal Reserve shortly before his death.
If you would claim to have any connection with JFK, you would have to give up everything you espouse on this site. You, my friend, are no Democrat. You are definitely a socialist and likely a Marxist. I have read The Communist Manifesto and it sounds very familiar any time I read your words.
Any entity sufficiently powerful as to create the kind of social and economic justice that you crave will never give up that power. History has proven it over and over and over. Stalin, Chairman Mao, Polpot...just to name a few. Marx's idea of a proletarian dictator is fundamentally flawed. Dictators always grind on the face of the poor and only death or a bloody rebellion can free the poor from the tyrranical clutches of such men.
You are a fool and a poor student of history to subscribe to socialism. History has proven, current events continue to prove and the future will prove that socialism is a fundamentally flawed ideology.
Jump ship now before it's too late. Many socialist dictators and their minions have died unnatural deaths. This isn't a threat, it's a warning to heed what history teaches before it leads to a bad end.

The United States of America is mankind's last best hope for freedom. Some other countries have more economic freedom (Hong Kong, Singapore) but the mixture of personal freedoms, protection of freedoms of speech, religion, assembly, fair trials and courts, keeping and bearing arms, and everything else we have makes this land the most free on the face of the earth.
Things are crumbling around us. We stand to lose the freedoms that make this country truly great. Gun control, fairness doctrine, socialized medicine, socialized economy, and heavy-handed regulations that have historically proven only to benefit monopolistic megacorporations are endangering our way of life.
There is no other place on this planet to retreat to. We must make our stand here and now.

Oh, bullshit. Far more people are killed by cars than guns. (For example, "In 1997, two hundred kids were killed by bike accidents compared to a hundred and forty-two by firearms accidents. But two-thousand, nine hundred children under fifteen died in automobile accidents."
Want to guess how many fatal car accidents are between drivers who know each other?
Sorry. I guess I should have been more specific. I forgot that not everyone would have understood that. I guess in your exuberance to pounce on some little automobile tidbit that you read somewhere, you caught me being unclear. I'll rephrase my statement for YOUR benefit.
Of all the people KILLED BY GUNS, the majority are killed by SOMEONE THEY KNOW. Does that help you a little?
I agree with you overall message Don but gay marriage is viewed (in my mind anyway) as a personal liberty. Please tell me that you dont buy into the bs that the religious right and its allies spew that everyone elses marriages will be less meaningful if homosexuals were allowed to marry.
