The Third Party Presidential debate will be held Thursday, October 23rd at 9pm eastern time and it will be carried LIVE by C-SPAN 2. This is not a typo; it will be carried LIVE by C-SPAN 2.

In addition, there will also be live coverage on Restore the Republic Radio.   Pre-debate coverage will actually start at 7PM eastern time on Restore the Republic Radio..

Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin and Independent candidate Ralph Nader are confirmed to attend.

Free and Equal Elections have been informed that Bob Barr has declined to participate due to scheduling conflicts. Free & Equal Elections (FREE) is an organization of political parties, independent citizens and civic organizations formed to promote free and equal elections in the United States and are the sponsors of the debate. Tickets can be purchased through them. The debate will be held at the Mayflower Hotel, in Washington D.C.

All six candidates with the possibility of attaining 270 electoral votes were invited to participate. According to Free and Equal Elections, the invitation to debate remains open for the Libertarian Candidate Bob Barr.

Free and Equal Elections also reports that former NY TIMES Bureau Chief Chris Hedges will modertate the Presidential Debate.

This is the real debate and it will be watched very closely by millions of people. If anyone has ever witnessed a real debate, they can tell you it is a rare event and a pleasure to watch.

Millions will watch?  I didn't know there were that many 3rd party members...and no one else cares about this debate in the slightest.

This will be just more bickering amongst the choir masters to stir the passions of their respective choirs.

I don't care if they debate non-stop from now until election day.  The Constitution party has my vote this year no matter what any candidates for any party might have to say in a debate, in the press or in their bathroom shower.

Let me see, a third-party debate thrown together in a couple of days, that has no mainstream media coverage, no publicity, and is being covered on C-Span, I would be surprised if more then a few thousand watch it. If anything, it is going to seem amateurish and probably will do no good for any of the candidates whether or not they attend.

Well I'm going to watch it. In the 2004 elections there was a debate between the LP candidate Michael Badnarik and the Green Party candidate David Cobb.  The two men were respectful to each other and debated the issues in a professional manner. It was the way debates should be. By contrast the Republican/ Democrat debate was more like a mud wrestling contest.

BTW I've been supporting Bob Barr, but he continues to disappoint me. If he doesn't show up tonight I may switch to Chuck Baldwin.

David S

I did some checking and their is only one flight out of Atlanta after his speaking engagement at Georgia Tech that he could catch that is sheduled to arrive in the DC area prior to the debate start. However, even if that flight were to be on time, knowing how bad traffic is in and around DC and how long it would take to get from Dulles to the debate site, I doubt he would be able to make it before it starts. Unfortunately, like all of the third-party candidates, they do not have a private plane at their disposal and must fly commercial like the rest of us.

Personally, I would like to see him at the debate, but I realize that logistics wise, its not possible.

Does anyone know the situation with Cynthia McKinney?

Will she be attending or is she still working on trying to

get to DC in time for the debate?

On another blog I saw a statement from McKinney saying that since the debate location, time, place, format, and moderator was chosen solely by a member of the Nader campaign without any consultation with her campaign, she refused to attend. I believe the posting indicated that she is on California.

I watched the 3rd Party debate last night and I have to say that it was great! All presidential debates should be like this. Chuck Baldwin had some good points but my vote is going to Ralph Nader. Even though Ralph will only get a small percentage of the vote this will still force the major parties to engage in some sort of real action!

I agree with Noah, the debate was great. And it exposed Third PArty candidates to a national audience. My vote goes to Nader as well. I wonder how many votes Barr lost from not attending and more so because Baldwin did a great job in reaching out to Libertarians and Ron Paul supporters.
