Real Men Write In Ron Paul

Each mark on the ballot for McCain or Obama is a flag of surrender to your government masters.
by Jeff Wrobel
(libertarian)
Friday, October 17, 2008

With the votes of Senator Obama, Senator McCain, and Senator Biden, and with the verbal support of Governor Palin, the government recently decided to give hundreds of billions, perhaps trillions, of dollars to the millionaires and billionaires on Wall Street.  Despite this attempted re-inflation of the bubble, the economy is still crashing, but now that crash landing will be just a little softer for the rich.  At the same time, the landing will be that much harder for those who have to pay that trillion dollar bill.  Who is going to have to pay?  You will -- or perhaps your children will -- or perhaps even your grandchildren will.

One day in the future your descendents will look around at the economic wasteland and ask who is responsible.  You can tell them that it was the politicians who were in charge.  But when your children ask you if you voted for those politicians, how will you answer?

Are you going to vote for Obama to keep McCain out of office?  Or are you going to vote for McCain to keep Obama out of office?  Either way, you're voting for a man who willingly and openly mortgaged your children's future for their perceived political gain.  If you are not willing to stand up and defend your children, who is?

A ballot is a legal document on which you are declaring, "I am authorizing this person to be in charge of me."  If that's not what you think about either Obama or McCain, then you owe it to the next generations to declare, "No!  I do not give either of these people authority over this land."  You declare this by not voting for either of them.

Be realistic -- your single vote out of over 100 million votes is not going to decide the outcome of the election.  Your plan to keep one guy out of office by voting for the other guy is not going to work.  But if your guy gets elected, you have no right to complain about the disaster he has caused, because you authorized his power.

Without even pretending to shed a tear for our children, both Obama and McCain voted to sacrifice all of our future to give spa treatments to AIG executives.  Do you really plan to put a checkmark next to one of their names?  What kind of man are you?

As an alternative you could mark the spot next to Bob Barr, but he voted for the Patriot Act, gave Bush authorization to go to war in Iraq, and was a leading drug warrior.  Or you could mark the spot next to Chuck Baldwin, who wants to make our country a theocracy.  Or you could mark the spot next to Nader or McKinney and take the last steps towards creating the United Socialist States of America.

Or you could be a real man and write in Ron Paul's name.  Don't surrender to Obama or McCain.  Go down fighting!

Are there any real men left in America?

I've already turned in my absentee ballot and I voted for Bob Barr.

If he's on your ballot, in your state, it probably took hard work, tons of signatures and jumping through outdated and antiquated hoops to get there.

Vote for Barr, an imperfect Libertarian candidate and improve future Libertarian ballot access for better, proven Libertarian candidates.

Writing in Ron Paul is a futile, useless act, that really IS like throwing away your vote.

Don't write in Ron in Texas!  The vote will NOT be counted because he did not file with the SOS.  Baldwin, Nader and McKinney are certified write-ins and Barr is on the ballot.

Same thing in Washington state. Ron Paul has not jumped through the hoops to be an official write-in, so a write-in for Ron Paul is approximately equivalent to a write-in vote for Donald Duck.

That said, I can\'t bring myself to vote for any of the candidates on the ballot for various reasons. Barr voted for the Patriot Act, as noted above. Baldwin and the CP have a theocratic tone that I just can\'t stomach. Voting for "McBama" is inconceivable. I can't bring myself to vote for overt socialsts, so McKinney and Nader are out. What to do?

Writing in Ron Paul is more personally satisfying to me than writing in "None of the Above" or simply not casting a vote for president.

I'm writing in Ron Paul even though I know my vote won't be tabulated as going to Ron Paul. It's my way of saying "none of the above" in Washington state.

Chuck Baldwin is NOT on the ballott in California. However, they DO allow a write-in. I wrote in RON PAUL and now I feel big and strong.

A "wasted vote" is a vote for your own demise - i.e. ANY of the other controlled candidates. Write in Ron Paul or you are a treasonous waste of American life...though with sooooo many idiots out there, it's probably too late for this country. Oh well, at least the public has the freedom to rejoice in their ignorance  - a right they exercise non-stop.

The presidential bid is pretty much a wash no matter who you vote for but I will go with Ron's endorsement of Chuck and vote for him. I will also vote for true conservatives/libertarians now coming into the system and will vote against all the incumbents that voted for the disastrous Wall St. bailout and hopefully there will be someone on the ballot that is worthy!

It's going to be a slow process in getting our country back unless it comes to a revolution but I'm ready for that too!

It should be obvious that the important vote is the one for your congressperson. If congress acts responsibly then the president has much diminished power. Of course, everyone thinks we're electing a king so I'm probably wasting my time. I will say a write-in for Paul will make my concience feel better so I have that going for me.

I don't care if they are men or women, I hope there are still enough people who understand our electoral process well enough to be effective.

Remember:

1.  There is NO national vote.  If you live in a state where McCain has absolutely no chance of winning you have nothing to lose by voting for a 3rd party.  For instance, it is a total waste of your vote to cast it for McCain in Illinois.  You vote has no value at all there.

2.  Each State has potentially different rules about write-in.  Learn how your State ALLOWS you to vote.

Write-in won't count in my state.

I think I'll help the Libertarians stay on the ballot this time around, so they can spend their money and time on getting the message out in a few years instead of spinning their wheels on ballot drives and legal proceedings.  I bet they'd like to have Paul run on their ticket in 4 years.  I think Barr would be better than all the rest in the line-up despite his history of doing some crappy stuff.  Since his "epiphany" he's put his money where his mouth is so far, even though he's still doing some crappy stuff.  At least he seems to be doing the wrong things for the right reasons.

Roberto: no, that sounds sheepish. Vote your conscience, not the lesser of two evils that the state tells you, you can choose from. I voted already here in Georgia and I wrote in Ron Paul. I don't care if he's an official write in candidate or not ( what does that mean anyway? You can only write in who the state says you can write in? That's just more of the same ) If the state throws my vote away then so be it but I voted for the only person I truly believe in for this presidency. If the state decides that my vote doesn't matter or doesn't count then that's just more state abuse of our civil liberties and the constitution as far as I'm concerned.

I think a few of the people posting comments here are missing the point of the article.

It doesn't matter whether or not your vote will count. A vote for Barr or Nader is just as much as a wasted vote as a vote for Ron Paul as none of them have a rats-ass chance in hell of winning. A vote for anybody other than the two media-chosen candidates is a wasted vote.

What Jeff is talking about is voting with pride and being proud of the vote you cast.

Most people and even Ron Paul were pretty much convinced towards the end of his run that he was not going to win the Presidency, but that was not what was important. What was important is that  "We" as proud Americans could come together against all odds and vote for somebody that we Believed In.

I am still registered as a Democrat and my wasted for is going to Ron Paul.

Neither the Constitution Party nor Balwin want a theocracy - stop the intentionally distorted smear already!  The platform simply acknowledges Christ, it does not attempt to codify Him. The Constitution Party's view on freedom of religion is libertarian. You do so well on other things, why keep up the dishonesty on this issue?

No. 2 of the Seven Principles of the Constitution Party is:  Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual.

Platform, under "Religious Freedom"

Article I of the Bill of Rights reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Our Constitution grants no authority to the federal government either to grant or deny the religious expressions of the people in any place. Both the First and Tenth Amendments forbid such tyranny.

We call upon all branches of government to cease their attacks on the religious liberties of the people and the states, regardless of the forum in which these liberties are exercised.

We assert that any form of taxation on churches and other religious organizations is a direct and dangerous step toward state control of the church. Such intrusion is prohibited by the Constitution and must be halted.

We assert that private organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, can determine their own membership, volunteers, and employment based on their oaths and creeds.

Sandra Hamilton, a woman, explains the reason for writing in Ron Paul's name here:  http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/hamilton5.html

You could also ask:  If you had a choice between Hitler and Stalin, would you consider it throwing your vote away if you vote for neither?   How will you feel when you tell your children you voted for one of them to keep the other out of office?   The next President will turn this into a socialistic country.  Goodbye all freedom.  Goodbye all civil liberties.  Hello, "may I see your papers?"

We are screwed either way.  So why help either one of those monsters?  Obama will screw the poor pretending to help them because he doesn't know a thing about economics.  He will put in protections that will make them much worse off.  McCain will screw the poor by giving the rich more but at least he won't prevent them from getting jobs.  Oh, and the poor means all of us.  But he will murder lots of innocent humans.  Of course, Obama is all for war as well.  The only difference between the two is whether we go broke fighting a war in the Sudan or Iran.

Frankly, there ain't much difference between the two.  You might as well fight for liberty.

And  uh, R Matheny - you must be a christian.  Because to those of us who aren't, the idea of acknowledging Christ in a political statement is the same as pushing a theocracy.  Imagine if Baldwin was just "acknowledging" Satan in his platform.  Would you feel good about it?  Would you find nothing dangerous in that?

Baldwin himself mentions Christianity many times in his website.   Don't blame the reading public for reading it.  We understand that he is a bible thumper.  He thumps the bible over and over on that website.  What makes it so difficult for you to notice that?

What about us atheists?  Does it ever occur to you that he profoundly bothers us?  We see a man who is pushing a religious agenda on the populace and whether or not he calls it Christianity or Gorkdom, it is still the same.  You see his principles as being separate from his religious views.  I see them stemming from that theocracy.  If you ask him why he is against abortion I guarantee you that some god will come into somewhere.   (Don't believe me?  Well he wrote:  "The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in God's image.")  That my friend is pushing a religious agenda on the rest of us. That is called a theocracy.  Baldwin is not simply acknowledging his particular god, he wants to run the country in the way he believes will make that god happy.  Stop lying to yourself and the rest of us.

Ignoring his beliefs and his statements only weakens your arguments.

Try looking at it from the other point of view.  I believe that believing in any particular god is a silly as believing in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or the Tooth Fairy.  Had he said that he is against abortion because "The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in the Tooth Fairy's image."  How worried would you be?

Well, that is how I feel.  I don't want that nonsense pushed on me as Federal policy.  And don't tell me he wants to leave abortion to the states.  He conviently left that part out of his website so I do not believe it. for a second  In fact he writes: "(Either way,) legalized abortion ends when I take office."  That sounds pretty broad to me - and incredibly clear.  All abortions, regardless of the situation, are going to be illegal. That is a pure evil position and unacceptable.

Be careful writing in a candidate who does not have ballot access in your state. I live in NC and I have heard that if you write in a candidate not "approved" as a write in, then your entire ballot will be voided. I am a staunch Paul supporter and was considering writing him in or Chuck Baldwin (Don't trust Barr). However after hearing my ballot may be voided, I will probably leave the presidential vote blank.

There are other state and local offices I am voting for that I need my vote to count for. Something to think about...

Unless Ron Paul registered as a write-in candidate in your State, which he didn't, your vote will not be recorded, at all, EVER!

Most States require candidates to register as write-ins in order for their votes to be counted.  RP specifically said not to write him in, he doesn't want to be president, and he didn't register as a write-in candidate in ANY State, so writing in Ron Paul is the worst kind of wasted vote ... it will not be counted.  You may as well not even vote.

There is a list of the write-in rules per State.  Vote Barr, vote Baldwin, vote for anyone you like, but for God's sake DON'T WRITE IN RON PAUL!!!

No write-in candidate registered in my state, therefore my vote would be wasted.  Of the six candidates, only McCain and Obama have any yard signs up in my county.  McCain closed his office because he is running low on funds.  My state is pretty much into Obama territory.  The state and local races will be more interesting.

I like Baldwin's radio shows.  He seems to be consistently on message.  I'd rather vote for Baldwin than Thing One or Thing Two.

There is one more chance with Ron Paul this Nov. 4th.

Everyone has heard the old saying, "He who has the gold rules".

In our government, the rulers of our "gold" are the House of Representatives, as all spending originates there and none of our "gold" can be spent without their approval.

Seems to me that if we were to un-elect all incumbents in the House, excepting Ron Paul, on Nov. 4, and insist that Ron Paul be made the Speaker of the House, then we could have some say in how our money was being spent. Ron Paul would give our federal government a "Total Money Makeover".

Seriously, I don't think you people are getting this.  Let me make this more explicit ....

If you write-in Ron Paul, YOUR VOTE WILL NOT BE COUNTED!!!

Voting your conscious might make you feel good up until the time you realize your vote for President was not even looked at before being thrown in the trash.  It's unfair, I agree, but it's the law ... they will not count your vote, BY LAW!

My column, "Do NOT Write-in Ron Paul" explains the situation well, and even explains where your vote for Ron Paul WILL be counted (Montana and Louisiana).  In the other 48 States, it's important to realize that your vote will not be counted, Ron Paul does not want to be President, and there are still good candidates to choose from.

Again, just in case you didn't get it the first few times through - If you write-in Ron Paul your vote for President will not be registered.  Election officials will look at it just long enough to notice you wasted your vote before they throw it in the trash.  You may as well not even vote if you write-in Ron Paul.

Lojiko:  You’re implying that many of the people who are writing in Paul are too dense to understand that their vote will not be counted.  Actually, you are the one who is missing the point.  No one here has any illusions that Paul will be president.  What we are declaring is that we will not go along with any of the choices given to us.  Unlike you, we all understand that our single vote, or even the collective votes of the approximately 100 people who thumbed up this article, will not change the outcome of who sits in the Oval Office.  Whichever man will sit there is a man far, far from worthy of that position.  He’s going to do it without our votes.

Your blanket claim that all Ron Paul ballots will be thrown in the trash is not true.  In my state of California, any ballot entry that is not valid according to government rules (such as writing in what they dare to call an unauthorized candidate) is to be discounted.  But regardless of any single “invalid” entry, the rest of the ballot is still to be tabulated.  I can’t guarantee that the poll workers are going to obey the law here, but I can’t guarantee that in any case.  My votes on the ballot initiatives will still count.

If the lack of my vote for Barr harms the Libertarian Party, so be it.  The so-called “Party of Principle” nominated a man with an incredibly unprincipled voting record.  If anything good comes out of the upcoming election, it will be that the Libertarian Party will learn some lesson from that.  I’d sooner shred my ballot, run over it with my car several times, set it on fire, and flush it down the toilet before I’d vote for someone who voted for the Patriot Act.

My alternative to writing in Ron Paul was to leave the entry blank.  That would have been nearly as manly a thing to do, but there were 2 reasons for not doing that.  First, I prevented the possibility that a poll worker seeing my blank entry would put a check next to their own choice, so I positively denied my vote to the unworthy.  But more importantly, I voted for the rare one-in-a-million man to whom I would trust with authority over my life.

You may ask why I'm voting at all. Mostly just so people won't give me the b.s. of "well you didn't vote, so you can't compain!" GOD I hate those people. logicprobe.  Apparently not true about our write-in votes for Ron Paul not counting in Washington State.  According to one blogger (http://cheslow.com/2008/09/15/how-does-washington-state-count-write-in-votes/ ) who contacted the Elections Office (Secretary of State)-- he was told that write in candidates that did not register as write ins (like RP) WOULD be counted AS LONG AS THEY TOTALED OVER 1% of the total ballots voted.  So, go ahead and vote your mind!  As long as at least 1% of us do it will still make a strong statement.  And if it turns out anything like the caucus (I attended the Republican one) there could be some big surprises reported from Washington State.
