McPalin Headed Toward Embarrassing Defeat? Findings in Alaska that Sarah Palin abused her power as governor are not surprising.by Walt Thiessen

I've been expecting this since the day Sen. John McCain announced that Gov. Sarah Palin would be his running mate. That same day, articles appeared in a number of newspapers across the country outlining the charges that had been raised against her in her home state.regarding the "troopergate" scandal. In fact, anyone who doesn't support either of the two leading candidates could see it coming from a mile away, if they were honest with themselves.
Why McCain thought that the American people would tolerate a VP candidate with even the possibility of having abused her office, in light of public perception today regarding the abuses of the Bush administration over the past eight years, is beyond my ability to fathom. He certainly is a maverick, but it also makes me wonder about the quality of the advice he's getting from his senior campaign advisors. Could it really be true that they couldn't see this coming? Some called the move gutsy at the time. No one is calling it gutsy now, except for the rabid Republican faithful.
I confess that the pick went better than I expected at first, but I also think we have to be honest that she wasn't the best choice McCain could have made.
I'm sure some readers of this site would have liked to see McCain pick Ron Paul, but that was never going to happen. Even if McCain had considered such a move, I honestly can't see Ron Paul suddenly cozying up to McCain just to grab the VP spot.
The McPalin campaign was already on the rocks before the announcement came out of Alaska. Republicans are crying foul, claiming that this is just a case of partisan politics, but that's a move that's going to fail. If Palin had demonstrated better understanding of the nuances of the issues, that hope might have been possible, but given her obvious gaffs of late, the hope is gone.
At this point, the only drama left is trying to guess by how much Obama is going to win the election. At this point, I'm guessing it will be somewhere around 350 electoral votes and about a 5-7% edge in the popular vote.
It's also going to be interesting to see if my prediction last August regarding Bob Barr is going to come to fruition. The only question really left where his candidacy is concerned is whether he'll finish ahead of Chuck Baldwin, who picked up Ron Paul's endorsement after Barr's ham-handed handling of the third party press conference Paul sponsored. It's pretty clear that he's dropped off the radar for most voters. It'll be interesting to see what the LP decides to do four years from now regarding Wayne Allyn Root, who has already made it clear that his VP run this year is merely a warmup for his next presidential run in 2012, given how badly the Barr/Root ticket is faring this year.

This reader doesn't 'wish McCain had chosen Ron Paul as his running mate' and Ron Paul made it clear he couldn't have accepted it, even if McCain had done so. What I wish is that McCain would read the writing on the wall and decide better than returning to DC a has been failed presidential candidate, he declare that now the economy has taken such a pressing center stage, he wants America to have the best candidate on that issue: Ron Paul. Then he leave the race as a selfsacrificing statesman.
If I am going to dream, that dream is no less likely than McCain getting Ron Paul as VP, and I like it a whole lot better.
As to the rest, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
My guess is that Obama will win Reagan style, although on the Democratic side. So next year we will begin the exponential acceleration towards having a more socialist U.S.A. than what we already have.
You MUST be kidding??? You like out of control cops? I say good for her to fire his ass. Like we need bad cops. And it was his union pushed by an Obama supporter that made that report which was cautioned should be read with a 'jaundiced eye'. The trooper himself admits he was out of control and is now a Sarah Palin supporter.
This is some non-issue dredged up by the Obama supporters. Obama the open racist is inches away from being arrested with Tony Rezko. He helped ACORN perpetrate voter fraud all over the country, and he helped cause Fannie Mae.
GO AHEAD and vote for more communism you nit wit!
Forget the LP. They stand for NOTHING. Get a clue won't you?

My best guess as of today is that Obama will get about 53% of the popular vote to McCain's 43-44%, with 3-4% split among Nader, Barr, McKinney and Baldwin -- in that order. Obama will get well over 300 Electoral Votes, with McCain lucky to get 200.
I'm almost certain that the McCain campaign has been a planned failure from the start. With the exception of those who supported him during the primary season, most Republicans are merely going to hold their nose as they vote for him due to his far from conservative stance on many issues. Next, he makes the pick of an inexperienced, scandal-ridden, bimbo for his running mate, supposedly to pick up female hillary supporters who would have gone to Obama (let's face it, most Hillary supporters that aren't voting for Obama are simply doing so because he's black, seeing as their stances are about identical). Recently, he's had his base tell him he needs to toughen up, followed by him telling his base they need to be more polite. Does it seem to anyone else that this election has been rigged from the start?
