McCain's Misguided Economic Fundamentals Using a weak attempt to complement the American worker by saying that the fundamentals of our economy are strong shows McCain's glaring economic weakness.by Master C

John McCain made the mistake of sticking his war veteran foot into his non-economist mouth last week and ended up looking like a grade-schooler with pudding around his lips when he said that "the fundamentals of the American economy are strong." Then he hastened to clarify what he meant by saying that the American worker is strong and innovative, and that American businesses will survive the difficulties we have in the economy.
This is about the most ludicrous psychobabble I have ever heard! You have a sick, feverish, struggling economy almost brought to a standstill by an endless military incursion into Iraq, a battle against phantom terrorists who seem to be everywhere except where our government agencies are looking for them, an economy vomiting red ink everywhere from a financial crisis that threatens to doom life in America as we know it, if we listen to our President and our Secretary of the Treasury, and one of these economic illiterate Republican cheerleaders running for President wants to stand up and shout that IT AIN'T SO! That takes the kind of BALLS that only a PROFESSIONAL BOWLER might have! So, I hope you're ready to pick up that spare, too, Mr. McCain.
Let's take a look at what the FUNDAMENTALS of the economy REALLY are.
Prices, interest rates, employment, gross domestic product (GDP), the mortgage market, stocks and bonds, import-export trade, we might even want to look at inventory levels and new housing starts. But, if we looked at ANY of those factors, I'm afraid we wouldn't find anything fitting John McCain's hallucinogenic reference to the "fundamentals" of our economy being strong.
What we would find is an economy in SHAMBLES! Gutted by heedless, senseless military spending, neglectful and ill-advised about infrastructure improvements, and lush with oceans of newly-created cash to bail out banks, investment brokers, and institutions that are considered TOO BIG to fail, the Bush administration has finally pushed our economy over the cliff of pragmatism and into the abyss of futility.
And John McCain, a 72 year old man who can barely raise his arms high enough to make a point because of war wounds and torture he suffered in five years in a Viet Namese prisoner of war camp when he was shot down over Hanoi in 1967, thinks he can handle this. His arms were broken and his right leg, he was twice stabbed by a bayonet, had his shoulder smashed by a rifle butt and was beaten by a mob. In addition, he has battled melanoma three times, his most recent bout only eight years ago. He takes regular medication for cholesterol and kidney stones, often uses sleeping pills, suffers from degenerative arthritis and occasional dizzy spells, and is followed by extensive rumors about his occasional raging temper like a dog on a leash. (information taken from McCain's own medical records)
Then, who does he give us to back him up in the event of his death in office ~ Sarah Palin, a 44 year old woman who has never held national office or has even been interviewed on national television until the last few weeks. Her claim to foreign policy experience is that Alaska, Russia, and Canada are all neighbors! And, she thinks that having been a Mayor of a town of less than 9,000 people for two terms has given her the administrative skills that she needs to become a "maverick" in Washington. Hold on everybody. Annie's about to git her gun!
Don't waste your vote this year. The choice is too important. Vote for Barack Obama; a man who can bring about the changes that we need.

You're right on target about McCain. He, by his own admission, doesn't know squat about economics.
What has me curious is why you think Obama would be any better? The change issue would seem to work against him now that his running mate is "mr. insider" Biden. Not to mention that he's calling for the same old things dems always call for. (see
Obama on the Trail
He's delivering the same message Democrats always rely on. So why does it sound like a clarion call this time around?
