In thinking about my vote, I always come back to that happy dichotomy that our country loves. Democrat or Republican or more currently: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin. This also brings me to think of third parties (of which I am affiliated). My mind always comes back to what my father told me when I voted for Sen. Ron Paul in the Michigan Primaries. His statement echos in my anytime I think of it. He told me, in that patriarchal tone: "Why would you throw away your vote for someone who couldn't obviously win?" That statement is stuck in my craw as I look toward the general election in November. Yes, third parties are not viable. I am fully aware of this as the current populous in this country are still in that happy dichotomy.
So this brings me to think again? Should I "throw away" my vote this year and vote for Baldwin, Barr, or McKinney? I have thought long and hard about this. If I do vote for these people, I would be holding up my principles and voting for someone I think could lead well. I would be giving the nod to someone who shares my ideals and beliefs in the political spectrum.
Then my rational mind kicks in. None of these people are getting in no matter how many times I pull the lever for them. Again, I am back to my happy dichotomy. Republican or Democrat? Supposedly liberal or supposedly conservative? Obama or McCain?
Every time I look to those candidates I see something I like about them, and something I hate about them. I made a small chart to note these as I went through both candidates websites and looked at their positions and promises (disregarding the fact that a lot of them are truly impossible for a president to impose without the help of congress.)
I look and think, look and think. The only conclusion I have come to is that I have some sort of hatred toward McCain. I'm not sure why, but the jingoistic way his speech is and the similarity toward Bush just makes me think "No way in hell I am voting for this guy". Don't even get me started on Palin, her ultra-religious right talk just makes me sick.
So this is apparently what I am looking for a viable candidate that can appeal to me, and doesn't make me absolutely sick to the stomach when he speaks. I've come to my conclusion that may make some of my fellow Libertarians sick themselves.

I used to have savings. But, then the banks decided to give away money to people who couldn't eve buy lunch and then the Fed bailed them out. I should have put everything into gold years ago.
