Anonymous traces back to 2004 as a group of computer gamers and aspiring hackers, harassing other computer users. A key activity of Anonymous members online is called "trolling".

"Trolling", as their dictionary at urbandictionary.com calls it is "the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards." - or, one might add, on places like nolanchart.com. Anonymous trolls are proud if they get someone to get excited or upset about some provocation they spread.

A reporter of the New York Times managed recently to track down and interview some "trolls" which gives more insight in how trolling works. In the article, very much worth reading, one of the interviewees, a person calling himself "Weev" is described as "part of a growing Internet subculture with a fluid morality and a disdain for pretty much everyone else online". Weev engages like many other Anonymous in trolling which he defines as giving him "lulz". Another word of the inner circles of Anonymous, "lulz" means "the joy of disrupting another's emotional equilibrium. Lulz is watching someone lose their mind at their computer 2,000 miles away while you chat with friends and laugh".

Many anonymous postings and "articles" in the current controversy about Scientology - even the "war on Scientology" - are done "for the lulz". So it does not surprise that most contributions from anonymous writers seem to only have in mind to upset the reader, in this case a member of the Church of Scientology. With this I leave nolanchart.com. Places that can be abused so easily for "trolling' and far more harmful personal attacks and slander should not be gratified with traffic and ad revenue.

Wow Lou,

11 article's in just a few short hours!  And most seem to be focused on anonymous.   Wouldn't one or two well writen longer article's have been better for the site than to clutter it up with all these?

No offence ment but it seems like you are trolling here with all these article's about the same subject.

Wow. You took urbandictionary seriously? That's really sad.

It's also sad that you're so threatened by people who want you to be free to do something other than get carpal tunnel writing attack articles all day.

Urban dictionary is a PARODY, not a dictionary.

That's your picture next to the definition of troll.  the other on is Jonathon Barbera, most reknowned troll on the internet.  Interesting company you keep.

I see someone's been raised on Hubbard baby-dumbing formula.

Ah yes, the old \"everyone who disagrees with me/us is a troll/idiot\" tactic.

Don\'t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Awww Terryeo,   care to try and explain that statement?   I bet the reader's would love to hear it as much as I would.  Misdirection hasn't worked for you for some time now.

For those who don't know Terryeo,  he is a long time scientology member who goes from board to board and tries to confuse everyone.   Google " terryeo and scientology"

Great to see you are doing well Terryeo

Real life beckons Terryeo.  Heed it's call.  It's just a step out the door away.  You can get help too.  Look up Chuck Beatty.  You'll find his phone number.  You can call him and he will help you as you leave the cult.

Yeah, Urban Dictionary is "our" dictionary truly meant to be taken seriously, just as Encyclopedia Dramatica is a highly-respected encyclopedia.

Also, the war on Scientology is for whatever each individual wants it to be.  This is the fundamental part of anonymity which you don't understand.  One anonymous person's actions don't reflect every anonymous person's actions.  If you'd like to believe that, then I suppose Anonymous is also responsible for all the anonymous tips to stop criminals, whistle-blowing on corporate corruption, and generous nameless donations to charities.  See how it works yet?  Door swings both ways.

Great article.  Anti-scientologists made a big mistake in using the trolls.  A big LOSE.  JeraldR, Trolling is trolling, and that dictionary, regardless of it's credibility, gives a good explanation of it:

TROLLING: the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards.

Maybe you, JeraldR, have been trolling?  Or maybe you have been duped into action by the trolls.

I denounce "Anonymous" because while it claims to be fighting some of the Church of Scientology's policies, it is really attempting to attack, insult and destroy the religion of Scientology.

The majority of articles and videos posted by "Anonymous" over the last nine months have targetted the "beliefs" of Scientologists. They rarely mention the church or its policies.

"Anonymous" cannot differentiate between a church and a religion. They blend the two together. They harrass Scientologists that have already left the church only because of the religion of those Scientologists.

"Anonymous" is a crusade. It is a loosely organized group of anti-religious fanatics that target anyone who dares to think or believe differently than they do. This isn't the Dark Ages. The Roman Catholic Church is no longer permitted to threaten non-believers with death if they refuse to convert.

Guy Fawkes was a Catholic extremist who targetted both the British government and the Protestants. "Anonymous" is more of the same. "Anonymous" wants a return to the Dark Ages where the masses are kept illiterate and ignorant. "Anonymous" wants a society where only priests and bishops are allowed to have access to knowledge. "Anonymous" is opposed to free speech and the freedom of religion.

I denounce "Scientology" because while it claims to be fighting some of Anonymous's policies, it is really attempting to attack, insult and destroy the rights of peaceful protestors.

The majority of articles and videos posted by "Scientology" over the last nine months have targetted the identities of Anonymous. They rarely mention the reasons why they protest or their peaceful protests.

"Scientology" cannot between a cult and science fiction. They blend the two together. They harrass Anonymous that have been to peaceful protests only because of the masks that those people wear.

"Scientology" is a crusade. It is a tightly-structures organized group of anti-free-speech fanatics that target anyone who dares to disagree with them or believe differently than they do. This isn't the Dark Ages.

L Ron Hubbard was a science fiction author and anti-Phyciatry extremist who targetted both the APA and the IRS. "Scientology" is more of the same. "Scientology" wants a return to the 1950s where the masses are kept uninformed about its abuses. "Scientology" wants a society where only Scientologists who spend lots of $ are allowed to have access to knowledge. "Scientology" is opposed to free speech and the freedom from religion.

Just lets not confuse $cientology with real religions.  There are ample examples on the web proving it is not a religion.  Access to knowledge is only a Google click away.  Only $cientologists try to restrict that.

Religions have to do with God, spirituality.  With creating a fellowship of like minded people who pull together toward making life better.

Scientology, presents information in these areas.  Do you think you can know nothing about your own spirituality?  Then you have taken the first step toward learning what can be known about your own spirtuality.

Do you think that mankind can make life better?  If not, don't read what Scientology suggests can be done.
