Sarah Palin’s Abortion RECORD as Governor The media is portraying Sarah Palin as extremely anti-abortion. However, the TRUTH is quite the opposite. As Governor, Palin refused to restrict abortion rights. The Democrats are using the sexist gubernatorial debate questions to smear her. America, base your vote on the FACTS, not the smears!by Natalie Schultz

The media has been bombarding the public with Sara Palin's responses during her gubernatorial debate about her PERSONAL beliefs on abortion.
However, the media has been deliberately MISLEADING the country about her actual RECORD as Governor.
On September 9, MSNBC's David Gregory had Lisa Myers, an investigative reporter, on 'Race for the White House' to discuss the rumors, and this is the TRUTH about the abortion issue: transcript: [link edited for length]
GREGORY: Let's talk about the issue of abortion. Obviously, critics of hers, Democrats primarily, say that her view is extreme, that she wants to outlaw abortion even in the instance of rape, only protecting the mother's life if it were to come to that. Again, back in this debate, she spoke about abortion more generally. Let's watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) [this is the Alaska gubernatorial debate video]
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If your daughter were pregnant or your son was involved in a pregnancy, what would your reactionbefore marriage or something like thatwhat would be your reaction and advice to him or her?
PALIN: Again, I would choose life. And certainly, I'm quite confident here that you're going to be asking my opponent the same scenarios.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I will. If your daughter had been raped, would that be something
PALIN: Again I would choose life.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GREGORY: That's the position that she's outlined. What is her record as governor on abortion?
MYERS: Interestingly as governor, she has not pushed the issue. There were times, for example, that members of the state legislature, who had anti-abortion bills to add more restrictions, wanted to bring those bills up as part of special legislative sessions on other issues. And Governor Palin said no. She has not proposed any added restrictions on abortion. And Alaska has some of the most liberal abortion laws in the country.

As you can see, the liberal media and the Democrats keep playing that debate video, but, in that debate the question was not about how she would GOVERN, but it was about her PERSONAL BELIEFS.
BIG DIFFERENCE!
The liberal media and the Democrats are deliberately LYING to the American public when they say that Palin would "outlaw abortion in the case of rape or incest." She NEVER said that. She was NOT asked that question during that debate!
Note her reaction to the moderator's question: "And certainly, I'm quite confident here that you're going to be asking my opponent the same scenarios."
As you can see, the QUESTION itself was deliberately framed by the moderator in a way that would not have been asked if she had been a MAN. If Sarah had been a man, the question most likely would have been "Would you change Alaska's current abortion laws?" BUT, that was NOT how the question was framed.
The question was about SARAH, as a MOTHER, not as a Policy Maker.
The question was not about Policy - it was about Motherhood! It was FLAT-OUT SEXIST!
And the sexist media and Democratic Party have embraced such sexist questioning to smear a woman whose RECORD on abortion is probably more liberal than Hillary Clinton herself.
On the Abortion issue, Sarah Palin refused to change Alaska's liberal laws. Why? Probably because the restrictions violated Alaska's State Constitution. If you watch her energy interview with Maria Bartiromo, you will see where she stands: In her own words "As Governor of Alaska, my Bible is the Constitution of the State of Alaska."
My ONLY requirement for President and Vice President of the United States of America is that he or she will uphold the CONSTITUTION.
On this count, Sarah Palin is the only major-Party candidate who passes the test!
Barack Obama feels that Americans who believe in their Constitutional Rights are "BITTER."
Sarah Palin Governs BY the Constitution, especially when it conflicts with her personal beliefs.
The ability to put your own feelings aside in the BEST INTERESTS of EVERY AMERICAN shows a strength of character that very few politicians today possess.
Sarah Palin has more strength of character than we have seen in a VERY LONG TIME!

When Sarah Palin was Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the town's police department charged rape victims for their forensic testing.
In a May, 2000 article, the Frontiersman reported:
While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests.
Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon stated:
"In the past we've charged the cost of exams to the victims insurance company when possible. I just don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer."
The choice of Sarah Palin is proof that in the Republican party greed always trumps values. Picking a woman as the spearhead of the assault on women's rights is ingeniously depraved. Way to go Carl Rove.
How prejudice is this to immediately assume sexism over a question that is not at all sexist? It is possible to ask that same question to a man. Or are mothers the only people that are allowed to raise children in your world?
You did not need to bring up the sex card here. Just mention that there's a big difference between someone making a personal decision and making a political decision. For me, politically, I'm pro-choice. Personally, I'm pro-life. Politically, I'm pro-gun. Personally, I'm anti-gun. Politically, I'm pro-liberty, letting everyone live in however makes them happy. Personally, I'm China. Ok, not really, not yet, but I can be.
This election is too important to be sidetracked by this nonsense.Sarah Palin is not running for President.McCain is.We need to quit focusing on the Jerry Springer Show that is Sarah Palin and focus on the real issues--the economy, the wars, education, global warming, skyrocketing energy costs, unemployment, the failing banks, etc. McCain is part of the Republican Party that brought us this nightmare; before this year he was proud to be photographed with George Bush, to be seen as an ally of our current President. So how is this man going to even begin to get us out of this mess? Why would he want to?His constituency of lobbyists and rich people are doing just fine--it's the rest of us who are suffering.Do you really want to return to a time like that of the robber barons--a time when the middleclass was practically nonexistent, and working people were basically chattel to be abused for their employers' astronomical profit margins. The Republicans over and over again use these cultural wedge issues to keep working people from voting in their own economic interest. They are laughing all the way to the bank. The Republicans were in charge of all 3 branches of government for 6 years, and they didn't ban abortion or gay marriage or make Christianity our state religion or make English our national language, etc. They wouldn't have anything to distract the populace with if they actually moved legislatively on these issues. They need poor and middleclass people who believe in these cultural issues to support them even though it means that average people get poorer and poorer. And don't think the Republican politicians sincerely believe in these issues.Look at the way many, if not most, Republicans live, look at the scandals that Republicans have been associated with--they want the vote of cultural conservatives, but after the lever has been pulled in the ballot box, those voters can be forgotten until the next election when the Republicans will rile them up again. The Bible talks about straining gnats and swallowing camels. The rich Republicans are giving us plenty of gnats to strain in terms of cultural/moral issues that we can't resolve through legislative means, and meanwhile we just keep swallowing those camels--the economic problems that the Congress and Senate and White House COULD resolve, so that finally real wealth COULD be earned by a multitude of American citizens willing to work hard if given real opportunities.
