Will Ron Paul Accept or Reject Bob Barr 's Offer?

Bob Barr has offered the position of Vice President on the Libertarian Ticket to Ron Paul. Will Paul Take it?

Bobb Barr today asked Ron Paul to be his Vice Presidential Candidate.

Will Ron Paul accept? Read the letter via the following link:

[link edited for length]

Reading the offer letter, I feel as if Barr is sincere in his offer to Paul.

As if we have not seen enough excitement already, Paul's acceptance of this offer would make this the most exciting Presidential Election in my lifetime.

If Sarah Palin made the Republican ticket  more palatable to so many Americans, just imagine what adding Ron Paul to the Libertarian ticket would do for the Libertarian movement in the United States.

Even if you disagree with Bob Barr as the nominee, the continued opportunity to discuss and promote the ideals of liberty will be a great opportunity.  Without Ron Paul, I fear that opportunity will be lost. The focus of the debates without a Barr/Paul ticket will certainly be different in scope. Without Barr/Paul, there will be no debate on the constitutionality of 95% of what we will hear.  With Barr/Paul, we can ask not only how it will be done, but should it be done at all(whatever the topic).

I am hoping Congressman Paul seriously considers accepting this offer.

What are your thoughts?

Bob Barr's snub of Ron Paul's press conference is a shame. Bob Barr's offer to Ron Paul to be his vice-president is an insult. I am stunned that Bob Barr made such an offer. I can hardly believe it.  More than ever Bob Barr is a fraud.  Poor, poor Libertarian Party.

Aside from agreeing with the comment from Mr. Roux, I would like to say that the letter illustrates the arrogance of Mr. Barr.  Not only is it an insult to Representative Paul, it is a slap in the face to Barr's running mate, Mr. Root, to the Libertarian Convention which nominated the Barr/Root ticket, and to anyone foolish enought to take Mr. Barr's claim to be running a serious campaign for the presidency seriously.

I'm convinced Barr's doing this as a publicity stunt. He knows full well Paul will not accept. It wouldn't make sense after rejecting third party offers because of maintaining his presence in Congress only to abandon that for a VP slot.

Insults and slaps in the face should take a back seat to liberty, wouldn't you think?

If the egos are so fragile, then they must be in it for themselves, and if that is the case, I would not support Paul or Barr.

Barr, the guy who voted for the PATRIOT act TWICE, the drug warrior, the guy who praised the surge, advocated intervention is South America, that Barr is not a libertarian.

I will folow Dr. Paul's advice and joint the formal or informalkleague of principled non-voters. We cannot give this farce of an election process legitimacy.

He made no mention of Wayne Root. What happens to him? Can he change VPs without the party's consent. Of course I think most Libertarians would prefer Ron Paul over Root, but can Barr do that? I dunno.

This election  should win a prise for craziest ever.

Gave you a thumbs up unlike all these comments above.

Of course it was sincere, and the proof is Barr begged Ron Paul to run for President before Barr was the nominee. As far as Root , Root said he would step aside for the good of the Party.

I am not trying to have a personality or Mr. Manners elected to the White House.  I am for getting in front of the American People a return to following the Constitution.

I do not care if someone was snubbed or had their feelings hurt.  At some point, an individual that has their hat in the political arena needs to do what is right for the cause, even if it may not be in their own best interest in the short run.

We do not have the luxury of selecting from three candidates for President that have all vowed to support the Constitution as written, and then picking which personality suits us best.  At present, we have two main parties having that sort of beauty contest while the Libertarians and Constitutionalists bicker over issues of personality and purity.

Maybe one day we will have the luxury of picking from multiple candidates to get the "right" personalities.  But that is certainly not today.

Jean-Christophe, as I recall, you were complaining a month or so ago about Barr talking to Al Gore; and now you're complaining because he wouldn't endorse Cynthia McKinney for President?

As for the complaints about Barr pulling out at the last minute: maybe the fact that Paul left it to the last day before telling Barr that was the plan had something to do with it?

Billy Joe: Do you have any actual evidence that Barr "supported the surge" and "voted for the Patriot Act TWICE"? Not just "since his conversion" (as reported in the Lew Rockwell piece you're parrotting), but any time? If so, let's see it, because I don't believe you have anything.

George, you recall very well. That Bob Barr refuses to appear with Cynthia McKinney is fine with me (I wish he had the same ethics with Al Gore) but appearing at Ron Paul's press conference would not have been an endorsement of Cynthia McKinney, or Ralf Nader, or  Chuck Baldwin. It would have been a sign of support to Ron Paul's drive to defend third party choice in US politics. So sad and telling that Bob Barr is more interested in saving the planet with mad Al Gore than joining Ron Paul's crusade for better politics in the US. If Bob Barr does not want to appear with Cynthia McKinney, why would he want a running mate that invites her to one of his most important events?

George Dance asks "As for the complaints about Barr pulling out at the last minute: maybe the fact that Paul left it to the last day before telling Barr that was the plan had something to do with it?" Are you hinting that this is Ron Paul's fault??? It was known for a long time that Cynthia McKinney, Ralf Nader, and  Chuck Baldwin would be there. Was Bob Barr dreaming that Ron Paul would invite the other candidates to endorse Him, the Beautiful Bob Barr? Come on, there was no surprise at this event.  If Bob Barr were an honest man, he would have refused the invitation a few days ago. Instead, he waited for the last minute so that it would hurt Ron Paul the most. Of course, as cynical as ever, he offers Ron Paul the vice-president spot. Ridiculous.

Have Bob Barr and Root any respect and consideration for the Libertarian Party who nominated them to run as Libertarians and defend the Libertarian Party brand. Wouldn't you think that members of the LP, or delegates at the convention, should have a word? What about the reputation of the Libertarian Party? Bob Barr proved once again that he does not care for the Libertarian Party.  The Libertarian Party's nomination was just his cheapest way to get on the ballot in many states.

But there is more; what kind of sick man can Bob Barr be to offer the vice-president spot to Ron Paul? For one, Ron Paul has always been right in terms of vote in Congress and issues. Bob Barr has been mostly wrong. If anything, Bob Barr should offer the top spot to Ron Paul; not the other way around. Why would Bob Barr make an offer to Ron Paul after slapping him in the face? Why would Bob Barr make an offer to Ron Paul, knowing perfectly well that Ron Paul will refuse it? Because Bob Barr is trying to humiliate Ron Paul. He is trying to murder Ron Paul politically. Bob Barr is after Ron Paul's supporters  and their money, and their good will, and their good reputation. Bob Barr never was able to get all that by himself because many Ron Paul's supporters do not trust Bob Barr. And with good reason. Bob Barr is disgusting.

Hmm, I'm afraid my comments here were misplaced; not that I don't stand by them, but it looks like this could disrupt the discussion of Mr. Moosa's article. Tell you what: I'm putting up my own article; let's get into it in the comment thread there.

As for Wayne Allyn Root's reaction: I found this statement from him in the Hartford Courant:

"I am willing to sacrifice anything to advance the cause of liberty, freedom, smaller government and to enable the American taxpayer to keep more of their own money and property. Understanding Dr. Ron Paul's reputation and name recognition in the freedom movement, I am willing to step aside as Libertarian vice presidential candidate if he would be willing to take my place."

I, too think this was a slap in the face to Ron Paul....If I had any idea I would have voted for Bob Barr, it went out the window, when just a short time before the News Conference Ron Paul had arranged and Barr had said he would be there, he changed his mind and had his own.  Now how do you think ron Paul felt..
Now Barr asks him to be his V P.... DUH !!!!
Talk about flip flop.. For one thing Ron Paul does not flip flop>.
So my support goes to Chuck Baldwin.... and God Bless Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin  and God Bless America......
