Is Katie Holmes a prisoner to that freaky Scientology cult? by RS Davis

So, the 9000 strong group Anonymous is going to protest outside the premier of Katie Holmes' Broadway revival of (freaking genius) playwright Arthur Miller's "All My Sons."
Normally, I am down with what they do, when they limit to picketing outside of Scientology Centers and the like, but to go after individual Scientologists is a bit much for me. It's not the run of the mill dupes who get roped into it that are the problem - I think of them as brainwashed cult victims, anyway.
I mean, from the time she started dating that freaky midget, she has had to abandon all her old friends, and she now has a Scientology chaperone, Jessica Rodriguez, that makes sure she stays in line, following "Katie everywhere, even sitting in on interviews and advising the star on what to say."
This annoyed W writer Robert Haskell, who said "it was clear that she would be on hand during our interview despite my protests." When Katie was at a loss for words describing her relationship to the miniature action star, Rodriguez said, "You adore him." Yes, he is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life..
At an US Magazine party in back in 2006, partygoers were thoroughly creeped out:
One partygoer is quoted: "You weren't allowed to bring a guest with you. But Katie brought a guest, one of her Scientology 'handlers'. She was the only one that didn't come alone. Katie's minder kept a watchful eye and a close distance at all times. It was so creepy! You couldn't really talk to her honestly and openly.
"Katie looked dead in the eyes. She was not the same person she was before she met Tom.
"Whenever Katie would leave the room, all the girls would talk amongst themselves about how strange she seemed and how bizarre the whole situation was."
One wonders how many religions force their members to be followed by creepy handlers so that they don't say the wrong thing or go to the wrong place. She doesn't get the scripts she used to anymore, and it seems will only be starring in films made by Scientology-owned United Artists from here on out.
Ex-Scientologist Marc Headley says that the "Church" of Scientology actually held a fake casting call to get Tom an appropriate wife:
"After that (splitting from Cruz), he started complaining to his best buddy David about his luck with girls. So Miscavige assigned a high-ranking official with the order: 'Find a wife for Tom Cruise.' The official put out a casting call to female actresses, including Scientologists, saying, 'There's an upcoming Tom Cruise movie you might get a part in. Come for an audition.
They tried out many starlets, including Scarlett Johansen, Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba - Johansen was the only one to show up, but Headley says when she "arrived at the audition address and found out it was the Scientology Center in Hollywood, she freaked out and didn't do a tape."
The cult eventually decided that Katie was just naiive and weak-willed enough to believe that Tom was straight and Scientology was normal.
So, really, we shouldn't be harassing Katie, we should be convincing her parents to have her abducted in a dark van, driven to an undisclosed location, and deprogrammed before it is too late.

I can't believe that adult people are advising another adult person (and a successful one at that) on religion. Religion is but a thought in the mind of man, how can any other person's thought possibly matter to you? If she is healthy, happy and doing well, what possible motivation could you have to suggest she abandon her successful activity?
Obviously, neither of you know much about cults or how a cult will use brainwashing techniques and mind control and threats to control their members...do some research on Scientology BEFORE you post about it...please carefully look at its history, its rituals, its "salvation" system...and then look at what defines a cult...
The truth is that we don't know IF Katie is unhappy or happy in this new Scientology life...but what I do know is that this "religion" was formed by a science fiction writer, it holds many of the classic characteristics of a cult and you better have very deep pockets if you wish to join the "enlightened elite" of Scientologists (due to the overwhelming cost of audits/dianetics).
Yes, everyone should have their freedom of religion....but at what point should people step in and do something? ....when someone they love refuses to see them anymore because their church decided that it is so? ....when that person is not allowed to have their own thoughts or do their own research on their religion? ....When a huge group of people drinks the koolaid and dies? ....at the point that the leader takes on several wives that aren't even of age yet? ...these are all examples from some very famous cults ....at what point, does a religion stop being a philosophy or way of life and becomes something harmful and dangerous....even if the member doesn't realize it while they are immersed in all of it?? Just my thoughts...:)
"Religion is but a thought in the mind of man". A lot of things are "but a thought in the mind of man" ,what matters and what causes the problems is how the thought is manifest as action. The cult of scientology is a serious problem in that respect.
Terryeo can't believe "adult people are advising another adult person (and a successful one at that) on religion." Cult of scientology members (adult and children) and members of a lot of other religions and cults do that on a daily basis. Adults in the real world advise other adults (whether it is wanted or not) on a range of subjects all the time so why is it so hard to believe? What world do you live in?
"If she is healthy, happy and doing well, what possible motivation could you have to suggest she abandon her successful activity?" Katie Holmes success lies in her looks and her talent.
No one is suggesting Katie Holmes gives up acting, & performing her REAL successful activities (although thanks to hubby's advice she was involved a film that tanked badly and damaged her career).
What is being suggested is that she break away from the cult of scientology because of its dangerous and damaging activities. While these activities may or may not cause her personal harm, her supporting directly or otherwise facilitates it causing others harm.Â
The protestors believe Katie is at best misguided regarding the cult and needs saving from it; rightly so. Â
Interesting article in Women's Day coming up, saying that KH is quitting Scientology. According to the article, she saw the videos of TC saluting miscavage and hubbard's picture, saw him ranting about SP's and huffin' about, then compared that to his career advice regarding her movies...
Yeah, can't blame her. Although I'm sure that she's concerned about her dear baby, seeing as how things went with Kidman's kids.
