You gotta love Politics McCain/Obama is like watching Miami/Florida State football. You gotta love the game.by Jonathan Cymberknopf

I know most Americans hate election time as we get to listen to the same old pandering. Only the names change. But I actually look forward to Election time. I compare it to waiting for football season to arrive. I am a big Miami Hurricane fan and watching politics unfold is almost as much fun.
First we got to see a real matchup between Obama and Hillary for the Democratic nomination. Surprisingly, Hillary and Bill Clinton yielded their power. The underdog won as time ran out. Next move for Obama was picking his VP. Now, if Obama's ego wasn't so large, the obvious choice would have been the dream ticket. An Obama/Hillary ticket would have closed the case and run away with the election, a pure blowout. After all, 18 million votes garnered by Hillary is quite an accomplishment. But more significant is what Hillary would have brought to the table which is the women vote, the blue collar vote, and the over 65 vote. Obama's pick in Joe Biden was in the hope of putting the inexperience argument to rest, a lot like the prevent defense.
However, Joe Biden only underscores Obama's inexperience for office and for a candidate that only offers change as a slogan with no real solutions attached to it, having Joe Biden who has been in office since 1972 is not really touting change, is it? Furthermore, Joe Biden being from Delaware is not going to win him any big electoral states.
So off to the Democratic Convention we go in Denver where Obama accepts the nomination on the 45th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have a Dream" speech. Now this was very clever and a spectacular show it was. I mean, I have never seen anything like this, it was like a superbowl. It did take place in a football stadium after all.
McCain, who always seems to be one up on Obama, did one better by announcing his VP pick the day after Obama's acceptance speech to take away the media attention. Do you see how this is a lot like football?
Not only did McCain take away the thunder or in football terms, the momentum, but he chose a woman. Yes, McCain took advantage of Obama's fumble, I mean blunder, of not picking Hillary and now McCain stands the chance in getting the women vote. I guess that's why they call McCain "The Maverick". McCain just hit a Hail Mary pass for a touchdown.
John McCain's running-mate pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a libertarian conservative which should calm the fears of most conservatives and win back some of those votes that were going to go to The Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr. Palin's inexperience will not be an issue since Obama is not in a position to talk. McCain would welcome such an attack.
I can't wait for the Republican Convention and see what happens next.
Maybe Hurricane Gustav which is sure to affect holiday gas prices may do more than that and do what Obama has failed to do which is derail the Republican momentum. Stay tuned....

The differences between McCain and Obama are minimal, when you consider that both believe big government can save you from yourself, and that we can save other nations from themselves as well. I will not play along with the game of lesser of two evils, as I believe that is part of what has plunged this nation into the mess we find ourselves today.

Well, Palin is a conservative libertarian. She believes in the free market and is an outsider. You got it right, it is only the GOP propaganda which is backed by major amounts on money, and more so now, as Wall Street loves the pick of Palin, due to her libertarian leanings. The McCain camp, although would never admit publicly, knows a lot of the base is supporting Barr and this was meant to stop the exodus, as well as of ocourse win some of Hillary's women's vote. This article is meant to be a light hearted one and just one man's opinion. Don't misunderstand me, my vote is going to Bob Barr, but it's still fun for me to watch how the Democrats and Republicans play a game of cat and mouse.

I know that the Alaska Libertarian Party endorsed Sarah Palin for Governor in 2006, but that was before she had held any partisan office. Could someone please tell me any stance she has taken on a specific issue that is pro-Libertarian? She supports a ban on same-sex marriage. She did veto a bill that would have prohibited employment benefits to same-sex couples for state employees, but she said when she vetoed it that she would support the bill if it were a state constitutional amendment.
Just being an "outsider" certainly doesn't mean one is libertarian.
"McCain just hit a Hail Mary pass for a touchdown"
You've got to be kidding.... Palin is under investigation for abuse of power as governor (following in Bush's footsteps???), may be passing her daughter's illegitimate baby off as her own, is so anti-national ("what can I do for Alaska as VP") that no intelligent voter would consider her as a possible president.
McCain has almost the same chance of being elected as any of the minor party candidates! It is a crying shame that most voters never look beyond R or D on the ballet.
