Alaskans See Indictment of Senator Ted Stevens In Different Light

Alaskans rely upon the seniority and influence of their Congressional Delegation to make up for its size (Alaska has 2 Senators but only 1 Representative). With Alaska's elected representatives under attack the people of Alaska haven't spoken yet.

The people of Alaska understand the benefits of Stevens' power in the Senate. And it's clear they aren't going to benefit from their most senior Senator being singled out for prosecution.

Why is Alaska's most influential representative under indictment when it's the SYSTEM itself that should be suspect and under presecution? Are we supposed to believe that this prosecution is going to change business as usual in Washington D.C.?

Stevens has adapted himself to the D.C. system for the benefit of the people he represents. And with the upcoming primary, the people of Alaska might just surprise everybody yet.

And since when does the administration have the power to single out members of the Legislative Branch for prosecution? Actions taken by Stevens in the Senate are under clear constitutional protection. Is that why they have to try him in D.C.? Because a trial in Alaska might expose the sytem for what it is and stand up for the constitution?

Us Alaskans must sure have 'em scared!

While I agree that no single Congress-critter should be singled out for persecution, I disagree that it is inappropriate for the Executive branch to go after them at all. I just wish they'd go after all of them, as well as members of the Executive branch. I don't expect it; I just wish for it. I simlarly wish the Legislative branch would go after the President. Unfortunately, not even the Democrats are backing Dennis Kucinich's impeachment bill.
