Beyond the Reach of Our Vote To be self-governing, that is to be a government by the people, is an arduous task. There are always details needing careful attention and one of those details is to dismantle the organizational structure within the legislative branch in order to free ourselves from those few controlling the many beyond the reach of our vote.by Gary Wood

Throw the bums out, no doubt we must! Hold an Article V Convention, long overdue! Join in the efforts to reduce the size of government, involvement is one of the keys. Yet the work is not done without changing the very structure of operations for the legislative branch at both federal and state levels. It's within the very organizational structure the shadow government lurks. Beyond the ballot box yet well within reach of our demands through the soap box!
When we replace a senator or representative in small numbers they enter the chamber...a gauntlet would be more fitting. Embraced by their party's leadership and whip, "freshmen" are given a quick orientation into the proper order of things. Operational procedures built on a century of tradition, controlled through congressional leaders, answering to the national and state committees, and carrying far more weight than a simple freshman dare to lift.
If the freshman is representing YOU you become a freshman citizen. If the freshman stays long enough to become a tenured senior YOU are no longer the primary constituent, you are not senior as a citizen for the leadership is elected by, and reports to, the party and the peers - either minority or majority, it changes often and matters little to those in power. The tradition is so deep we pay for these positions, track their every word, despise their performance nearly all the time, and leave their positions in the organization in tack when they serve no purpose but to bloat government bureaucracy while creating the seed for career politicians.
You may have heard the term "plutocraticoligarchy" used to describe our current government. We do indeed have the rich few controlling the many in an upside down, democratically social country our founders wouldn't be able to recognize. Their vision, the old republic, passed away with its final breath occurring in 1913. Most of us alive today have no idea what it really is like living under the U.S. Constitution. Although we may well taste the beauty through the eyes of Alexis de Tocqueville we have not experienced it. Just as we've not experienced life with no income tax or large federal government programs intervening where individuals, families, and associations once thrived. Each election we vote yet instead of shrinking the federal government grows ever more expansive, a fire blazing out of control.
There's no doubt this is a problem for anyone wanting life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to be once again instituted as our way of governing this society. Problem Solving 101 teaches us we must strive to identify root causes to any problems if we hope to solve them. The organizational structure of legislative branches across this country represent one root that can be extracted, giving all representatives a chance to enter congress each session for their constituents. That's not to say party influence will completely go away but it will stop the two-party duopoly from handing out positions of title while limiting the incentives to serve as a career politician.
How hard is it to break this tradition? That depends on how many the voters are willing to replace at the ballot box in one election combined with how vocal we are in articulating our demand the organizational structure be returned to the simplest constitutional form immediately. There will be loud cries of impossibility from both parties, all those holding title currently and in the past, as well as the well funded mass media. The pundits will scoff at the shear lunacy of changing this organizational strangle hold on control. Prepare for the wailing and gnashing of teeth, the career folks and those beyond our vote will claim without these positions the dogs won't hunt and the fox will go free. Well, it isn't the fox raiding the public hen house, it's the plutocratic oligarchy holding firm to the whip and your whipping days are numbered.
