Topic: Foreign Policy
Intervention vs. Non-intervention

A grassroots discussion on the focus of our foreign policy is long overdue. It's now been a century of intervention, a half century of preemptive intervention, and we must measure the success or failure of this approach while determining if the alternative of non-intervention is to be used to replace our interaction with our global community!

When did we alter our course and begin to intervene? How long has the struggle to "make the world safe for democracy" been carried out? Has democracy proven to be the answer for the global community or even for the United States? Can anyone remember, clearly, a time in our nation's history when we did not approach foreign affairs with intervention, carrot and stick diplomacy, or preemptive measures to stave off enemies perceived to be readying an attack against our shores? Are we safer, is the world safer, since we began the campaign under President Wilson? Has the world truly become so much more complex that the ideas of Jefferson and Washington are outdated and ineffective?

Like the U.S. Constitution itself unless we were living prior to the turn of the century we have no foundation set in experience to begin to answer the many questions that come to mind for this discussion. We can study history and determine the outcomes of our policy but we have no way of knowing what the outcomes would have been had we maintained a non-interventionist stance. Just as we cannot determine what life would be like today had we lived under the Federalist Republic. Some of the founders would no doubt be ready to revolt again in our world today.

No matter, the discussion must begin in earnest. Many tell us the economy is the number one issue facing U.S. citizens this election year. Experts categorize issues neatly into a numbered list yet their attempts to confuse the people are beginning to fail. We know the economy is not separate and distinct, our foreign policy impacts the economy as much as our monetary system, our approach to enterprise, and more. There is no clear list of issues, there is a connection with our entire approach to how we govern on the federal, state, and local levels.

We have scheduled a special 90 minute March of Liberty radio show for tomorrow to aid in furthering the discussion. It doesn't matter if you are in favor of our current policies or opposed, what matters is you share your opinions and actively involve yourself in the discussion. What we learn from one another is as important as what we learn from history. Join us at 7pm EST, 4pm PST to take part. Also, invite anyone and everyone you know to join us as well.

After the show I will be preparing articles based on what we discuss. Also, if you are a columnist you're encouraged to write articles and if you are not a columnist I simply ask why not? No matter your stance your voice is necessary so lets get writing, talking, and attempting to get this figured out so we can vote intelligently and know what to tell those we send to represent us. It is OUR government, not the plutocratic oligarchy, not the rich or the few currently attempting to control us!
