Last night over 500 Ron Paul backers met at the Red Lion Hotel in Spokane
to discuss strategy, to meet their leaders and to draw up plans for the two day Republican
Convention which starts today at Nine AM in Spokane's modern Convention Center.
As I walked among these people I looked for any physical commonalities amongst
them. There were none. They were men and women, old and young, mostly Caucasian
and on the intelligent, motivated side.

The Ron Paul pre-convention strategy session began with a nauseating
rendition of "Amazing Grace" sung by a young baritone a capela. Then one of the
leaders dealt more mysticism at the crowd with an invocation ending with a call
to Jesus. One atheist in the crowd stood up and walked to the man who gave the
invocation and objected that all the atheists, Jews, Buddists and free thinkers
were insulted with this Christian effluvia. To his credit, the man who gave the
invocation, Doug Parris, later apologized in a lame way to the non-Christians in
the crowd.

After that it was straight politics for the next two and a half hours.
This was one enthusiastic crowd. They were told that the McCain/Old Guard/Party
Bosses were "scared as hell" of the sheer numbers of Ron Paul delegates. It was clear that
the theme of the night was that a) Ron Paul was very definitely in the race to
the finish, b) the Mainstream Media has woefully under estimated the power and
energy of Ron Paul's Army, c) while it was unlikely, Ron Paul could STILL win
this race.

It is with this pre-convention pep rally that the Ron Paul delegation
begins what they see as a major battle royal for the hearts of the former
Huckabee and Romney backers to team up and send Ron Paul delegates to the
Republican National Nominating Convention in September.

In the Spokane County Republican Nominating Convention to send delegates to
this State convention, Ron Paul backers won almost all of the slots available.
In Whatcom County Paul backers won 31 out of 39. In county after county Paul
backers won the majority of seats for this convention. King County was the
obvious collectivist stronghold. The Republican Party Old guard is not paranoid.
When they look at their opposition's numbers they have very REAL fears.

The debate begins today at the Convention Center. I will report the
highlights to you as they happen.
