Republicans will meet in Spokane, Washington this week, from May 28th to May 31st, to select delegates for the National Convention in Minnesota. John McCain is the preemptive candidate and should pick up a fair amount of delegates at the Washington convention. However, there are a variety of predictions that a good number (predictions range from 40% to 75%, depending on your sources...) of the delegates at the Washington State Convention are expected to support Ron Paul...!
Here are some quotes from a recent article Paul has support in state's GOP [link edited for length]:
"Supporters of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who is still nominally in the race, will control enough votes to claim delegates to the national nominating convention and make changes in the state platform."
"In pockets around the state, Paul's supporters, some of whom are political novices, worked the arcane caucus system hard enough to control county conventions and legislative district meetings. Nowhere was that more evident than in Spokane County, which will send 114 delegates to the state convention. Of those, 106 are Paul supporters."
Here are some more quotes from another article Ron Paul sweeps Spokane county [link edited for length]:
"According to Spokane County Republican delegates and Ron Paul supporters, Ron Paul is assured 27 of 40 delegates for Washington state that will be voting at the National Convention in Minneapolis this coming September."
"Since Ron Paul swept the Spokane County Convention, he will get 19 delegates. "Therefore...Ron Paul can do no worse than 27 delegates to the National Convention. But he could get a couple or all of the automatic delegates and could end up with 30 of the 40, Chris explained."
I would like to comment that I'm only quoting the numbers reported in the article listed above and cannot vouch for the accuracy of the projections forecasted...
And last, but, not least, here's a quote from the article "What's this? Ron Paul tops McCain?"[link edited for length]:
"Paul prevails: Arizona Sen. John McCain...was left in the dust by Congressman Ron Paul of Texas, the anti-Iraq war, anti-tax, anti-big government libertarian."
"Highly motivated and disciplined Paul supporters outnumbered McCain forces and thus will send more delegates to the state convention in Spokane next month."
In a few articles, forecasts project that Ron Paul will get the majority of delegates. This may be wishful thinking but it does give hope that there is a possibility that this can happen. And you never know what can happen, especially with all of the tricks that the neocons have been pulling... Please neochickens, no more walkouts or blackouts like you did in Nevada... I honestly don't know what you're sooooo afraid of...
It is also quite obvious that as it gets closer and closer to the National Convention, delegate support for Ron Paul is increasing at an alarming rate (i.e., alarming if you're John McCain...).
It looks like the end of May could be May Day for McCain and his neocon friends... It will not be a good week for McCain if he loses in Idaho on May 27th and then gets hammered in Washington (not DC...) during the rest of the week.
Thank goodness there are a lot of smart people with common sense in the Northwest...

Ob-Gyn Dr. Ron Paul is the only "peace candidate" who understands our sacred Constitution so as to reverse the "bush/clintonian surrender" to those bigoted, socialistic totalitarians who now rule Israel... Do not wait for our own Zionist-controlled propoganda-bureau (the media) to give anyone permission to support this great patriot!
A few corrections to the article are in order. I am a Spokane RP delegate to the state convention and the dates are May 29-31. The rest of this article is a mess.
Ron Paul is NOT assured of 19 delegates, they must be earned by a majority of the voting delegates on the convention floor. They will be elected by congressional district, of which we only have a solid and clear majority in CD-5. We will earn national delegates, but nothing is at all automatic and hinges mostly on delegate turnout to the state convention. Our numbers are excellent, but nothing is a guarantee.
We are facing the sovietization of delegates to vote for. The state executive committee passed a rule a few days ago, which in itself is a violation; and are foisting a slate of candidates to vote for on the floor and won't let us nominate folks from the floor. In short, the McCain campaign and the national GOP leadership would much rather lie and cheat than let the convention function properly by the will of all attending delegates.
We will do well, but exactly how well remains to be seen.
Thanks for pointing out the corrections. Most of those inaccuracies came from an article that I used as a source!
I made the fixes and hopefully it is a better article. Thanks for pointing out the obstacles. I'm sure McCain and friends have a few tricks and surprises up their sleeves. Though it would be hard for them to do a Nevada when this spans over a few days!
Some advice from a delegate who witnessed the debacle in Nevada. Ron Paul had a majority of the delegates, then as I'm sure you know, the chairman abruptly and unethically ended the convention before the votes were official.
Please do your best to get a fair and impartial chairman elected. You'll have your work cut out for you, but stay until the end, and best of luck taking the state for Ron Paul!
Washington owns. I voted for Ron Paul, most people I know voted for him or if they didn't vote they support him (Some didn't know until after the election)Â I think the biggest problem here is everyone is so DEM DEM DEM they're blinded when a republican has the message and the right ideas better than the Dems do. Still, tons of support out here, he's definately our kind of guy, too bad the rest of the country isn't like us...
McCain is the "preemptive" candidate? I think you mean he is the 'presumptive' candidate. Although in this case, if you mean he is initiating an attack to seize for himself the nomination by exclusion of any opposition, then you have it right, and I do apologize. Â
The WA GOP leadership has tried to fool the delegates into believing that "only John McCain" supporters can be elected in place of the primary vote delegates. This is a lie and explicitly violates Washington State Election law at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=29A.80.020 which states "Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter, the committee may not adopt rules governing the conduct of the actual proceedings at a party state convention."
We will not allow the law to be broken - I don't care how corrupt the GOP establishment acts.
On another, the GOP has shared all delegate information with McCain's campaign but refuses to share it with the Paul campaign. I keep getting letters from NeoCons asking me to support them as they support McCain - none of these people will be elected to the National Convention.

The Republican Party obviously wants to maintain the Corruption,Larceny (I.R.S.) Gangsterism, and Terror against the American People - Their ONLY HOPE is to Back Ron Paul, clean up the Tyranny and actually stand for what they lyingly profess they are. Without a Ron Paul Presidency- The nastiess Revolution in history is inevitable-American Veterans especially are fed up and will NO LONGER TOLLERATE THE TYRANNY OF BILDERBERGER, TRI-LATERALIST AND COUNCIL OF FOREIGN RELATION MEMBERS IN CONGRESS OR ANY OTHER ASPECT OF GOVERNMENT IN THEIR NEW WORLD ORDER QUEST!!!
