How Can The Republicans Win the Presidency?

The answer to that question is they can't unless they change directions!

Having been a Republican for my entire voting life, I have been very interested in what is happening in this election season. For years the Republican Party was in the back seat to the Democratic Party for one reason, lack of unity. In the last 20 years, at least for a time, the Republican Party seemed to have put this problem behind them. Unfortunately, during this election season the problem of unity is not only rearing it's ugly head, but it seems to be thrashing about in a violent manner also.

Sadly, this problem is re-occurring at a most inopportune time. If ever the Republican Party needs to be unified it is right now, when two seriously liberal candidates are running hard and fast toward the Whitehouse finish line. For our nation is faced with one of two avid socialists coming to power.

Unfortunately unity seems to be the Mount Everest of this election?campaign. For in order to find unity, there has to be agreement, and agreement is seemingly impossible this year. The main obstacle to agreement is betrayal.

There are a signficant number of republicans who are angry at the betrayal of the Republican Party, including myself. We remember the values of republicanism. We remember the declarations by our leadership to get government out of our lives. We remember the committed affirmations of our elected representatives to control spending. We remember statements of intent to protect our constitutional rights.

Unfortunately for those of us concerned with liberty, the Republican Party has NOT remembered its duty to its constituents. Instead we have received all that we have voted against and more. In the last eight years government has dogged our heels like never before. Suddenly our entire lives are open to government scrutiny. No longer is our communication our own. No longer can we maintain a sense of privacy in and around our families. No longer can we cross our northern and southern borders at will, though citizens from other countries stream across our borders as a flowing river cannot be stemmed. No longer is our property our own. Instead we have become mere arms of a federal state.

How can we be expected to unify behind four more years of this hypocracy to protect ourselves from an unrealized evil, when the realized evil is worse? The answer to that question is that we can't! In fact, I would go so far to say, we shouldn't. For to cower in a corner for fear that the dogs will bite us while the lion is chewing on our leg is foolish.

So, what does this mean for the Republican Party? I will NOT support McCain. Many like me, will not support McCain. We have another option in Ron Paul, but heretofore the Majority of the Republican Party has ignored and made fun of him. The leadership has thwarted every effort to save this party from itself. And so, unity is impossible.

It is a terrible mistake for the Republican Party to think that I and people like me will come around to their way of thinking after John McCain becomes the nominee. I certainly will not. I'll vote 3rd party if necessary, but I will NOT vote for John McCain.

It's a numbers game people! There are 63 million registered Democrats. There are 47 million registered Republicans. There are 32 million registered independents and 3rd party voters(numbers obtained here: [link edited for length] )

The republicans CANNOT win without winning a considerable number of independents, and those registered with other parties. They especially cannot win if they drive away their party faithful.

The Republican Party NEEDS me, and other Ron Paul supporters. To continue this pattern of attacking(as they did at the Hawaii State Convention [link edited for length]  ) their own party faithful who support constitutional government is to insure that the Democrats will win the Whitehouse in 2008.

For there are those of us out here, who will not sell our souls for a rotten egg again. Liberty means something to us. We will not stab ourselves in the heart to avoid having our head cut off. If the Republican Party wants our vote in November, then they had better start negotiating NOW.

Whatever happens, the Republican Party cannot get to their defeat in November without saying that they were never warned.
