100 Hours! Patriots! 100 Hours!...An Open Letter to Ron Paul Paul continues to yield to a GOP which has financially and morally bankrupted the country. Paul must heed the Founders and rise above party in the next 100 hours. Besides prayer, what we can all do now!by Paul Farris

The political terra firma continues to shift in the freedom movement's favor. But not long will it continue without focused action. As the pendulum of power swings away from the corrupt neocon-infested republican party, alarm bells are ringing off the walls in the Republican National Committee and throughout Republicandom coast-to-coast. The recent third special election defeat in a row for the Gop in the Mississippi congressional district, announced Congressional retirements everywhere, and continued buffoonery and pronouncements from their fearlessly feckless leader, "W". All this and much more prove that the Republicans are scattering, preparing for merciless defeat in November 2008, with no one to blame but themselves.
Mr. McAmnesty, who will become their presidential nominee, if only by acclamation, continues to fuel intense revolt within the base of the republican party. Especially angered are those border, language and culture republicans with his latest Spanish language website and hard green left turn. The Republican party is in free-fall. Because of its actions, it deserves to be. This may be one of those special examples in history, in that, to save the party, it must simply be imploded and razed. It is time for the freedom movement's historic messenger, Ron Paul, to take bold and extreme advantage of this situation and rise above party and run for president outside the Gop. It does Paul and the freedom movement no good standing on the deck of a party that is going down to the bottom like the Titanic. No tears need be shed, bold action, instead. For we have reached an historic moment: The urgent need and requirement, to outflank and decimate, a corrupt freedom-destroying and useless warparty.
If we do not decimate them and force capitulation, the Republican party will come back in some phoney public relations, poll-tested incantation, designed to hoodwink and fool it's shrinking base of support, as they always do, similiar to it's well-known, "Contract With America" or "Compassionate Conservatism." They all turn out to be "Con Acts" on America. The freedom movement must force Gop capitulation or the same corrupt cycle will continue and the police state they have engineered, in tandem with the Democrats, will have triumph.
This is why a Ron Paul - Bob Barr Libertarian Party 2008 ticket is urgently, repeat, urgently needed!
The time for worrying about Congressional fraternalism and congeniality in the halls of Congress are past. The nation is bankrupt and totters on a full-blown police-state. The Republicans, in panic and scattering like rats off the Titanic, know they are largely to blame and any attempt to point the finger at Paul will simply not hold water. It is they and they alone who are too blame, for Paul has been the lone voice of reason in the Republican sea of insanety. With the Republican party dazed and on its heels, it is our job to help harness the power of the freedom movement and turn the wheel of history in liberty's favor in an historic leap forward.
Importantly, there is now the symbolism of freedom's insurgents (Paul's handful of delegates) inside the Gop temple. We must magnify that with a Paul-Barr 2008 ticket, for when the Republicans rush to the wall towers to see freedom's legion arrayed against them on all sides, let the Gop shudder in fear and either capitulate and join us, or perish as a party!
With poetic justice, right as John McCain accepts the Republican nomination in St. Paul later this summer, cross-town in Minneapolis, Paul-Barr 2008, the true conservative ticket, could be holding a huge rally that meets or exceeds the attendance of the Gop in St. Paul! If they haven't by then, a panicing, shuddering and imploding Gop will realize that the people are, indeed, at the gates! And John "Compromise-at-all-costs" McCain will no doubt pop another vein!
It was just a few short weeks ago when on one of the late nite comedy tv shows that McCain was asked who he wanted to run against, Hillary or Obama? McCain replied, "Ron Paul." Indeed! We must give him what he wants!
A Ron Paul - Bob Barr LP 2008 ticket will absolutely confound the political establishment generally, and the Republican establishment specifically. Paul - Barr 2008 will effectively, Tilt!, the Republican party. In it's essence, Paul - Barr 2008 to many Republicans, will become, the conservative ticket worthy of support! It is the small government, secure borders ticket that will attract millions and millions of voters from all quarters, but especially large sectors of the republican base, if only in protest of John "Compromise-at-all-Costs" McAmnesty. Deep in their hearts, the Republicans themselves may even sense what is coming and fear the prospect, but are hoping, and no doubt, placing party over country, urging Paul remain on the sidelines. We must give them what they fear!
Furthermore, and most importantly, with the hard-hitting, scorched-earth, though hugely overdue, tv advertisements that Ron Paul's campaign put out over the airwaves at CPAC Convention time last year, the freedom movement is going to reap huge sectors of new converts to the revolution. This is perhaps one of the most important necessities and outcomes of a Paul - Barr 2008 LP ticket, the recruitement of millions of new people to the message. Freedom's lifeblood itself. With it we grow, without it freedom dies!
Mr. Bob Barr, the former Republican congressman who led the impeachment committee that resulted in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and now Libertarian Party member (Ron Paul is a lifetime member), has announced his intention to seek the LP presidential nomination. Though he has served two years on the Libertarian National Committee, his chances of capturing the nod are perhaps 50-50 at best. Even if he got the nomination, it still would not have the effect of crashing and forcing the Republican party to capitulate from it's anti-constitutionalist, anti-liberty ways. Barr's true role should be that of vice-presidential candidate on a Paul-Barr ticket, to balance, magnify and enhance the wrecking-ball effect on the Republican party.
Teaming Barr as VP on a Paul ticket, further blows McShame out of the water. Expect McShame to melt down soon and often during the campaign! Paul and Barr, together bring a symbiosis that will send after-shock after after-shock crashing through the Republican Party, as the ticket, composed of two members who have both been involved in the Republican party for over 30 years combined and have huge resumes of accomplishment. As a result, significant sectors of the political spectrum, from the left, center, and right, can be expected and will embrace Paul-Barr 2008.
The potential of Paul-Barr 2008 to out fund-raise McShame from here on out will simply horrify the grand ol' party hierarchy. All the excitement and buzz will be with Paul-Barr 2008, as his legions hit the pavement from coast-to-coast campaigning for freedom and spreading the message on a scale that cannot be acheived outside the animated contest of a presidential election.
The path to the October presidential debate table is unobstructed for Ron Paul. Freedom's best known messenger will be in the Fall debates if he simply gets in the race on a Paul - Barr 2008 ticket. But only if Paul's friends and supporters, you who read this now, help persuade Paul of this course of action. Do we want two collectivists debating the future of this country with no representative of the highest principles of this country at the debate table? This situation alone should propel Paul to get into the race.
Paul has already completed twelve months on the campaign trail, and the results have been stupendous. There are less than six months until general election day. These are the most important months of the modern era, if freedom is to have a chance of even surviving. We need you, his friends, allies and supporters, to do what is necessary to convince Paul that this is the proper course of action. Questions about a 3rd party effort have been succinctly addressed elsewhere thanks to Garris and Gregory.
The Libertarian Party Convention convenes in Denver, Colorado, (update:) less than 50 hours from now, on Thursday, 22 May and runs through the 26th, Memorial Day. Covered by CPAN, lets make this a week we will always remember as history's turning point, when the freedom movement pressed ahead boldly and won.
Dear friends, we see no alternative, truly, absolutely no alternative that will maximize the huge gains acheivable for the advancement of liberty and freedom and the movement on this scale. Yes, we advocate, and donate to freedom and liberty candidates across the country. It will be great to have 422-11 versus 432-1 votes in the House. That is progress. Yet, history now calls for freedom's great leap forward. Please do not count on others to make the difference in convincing Ron Paul of this course of action. It is what you can do that makes the difference. 50 hours, and counting, is all that remains. The winds of history are favorable and will remain so, but only if you take action to convince Paul of this course of action by urging Paul to run 3rd Party. Please, as you take action, pass this on to allies that can help us in this momentous effort.
Freedom, if we truly love it, must not stand-down at this historic moment, as if we haven't seen enough, tyranny closes in from all quarters. We must get our best known leader into the fray of battle, the most historic election of our lifetime, and compete in the fourth quarter of this contest. You can never win by competing in only three quarters of a football game or seven-innings of a baseball game. For time itself, is nearly up on this experiment our Founders waged so dearly to provide us. Let us not be too comfortable or too busy, for it was our fore fathers who fought and died for freedom, often in horrific conditions, but they rallyed, fought on, and won!. Will you? We owe it too ourselves, but more importantly to our children's future. For if not now, when? We simply cannot permit this advantageous moment to pass. 50 hours, patriots, 50 hours! Please help convince Paul to run. For if he runs, freedom wins!

Of history's recorders, let them not describe the era:
..................At the wheel of history they sleep..........
.................For their children's children they shall weep.........
With Love and in the Urgency of Liberty! May God be with you, Ron Paul, and guide us all in the next 50 hours!

It's not going to happen - Paul jumping ship to the Libertarians, that is. The rest will; the GOP is going to melt down, and all that. Paul knows that; the plan is for him to elect some Ron Paul Republicans, including himself, to Congress, as the nucleus around which the party builds. Not my choice, and not yours, but it's his and we have to respect it.
I A Paul-Barr ticket, in either order, would take at best 10% of the vote; Barr on his own at best half of that. But that 5% would be enough for him and the Libs to take credit for the coming GOP slaughter, which will only increase Paul's credibility within the latter party.
If Paul were to go third party, right now, all that would be lost. Everything he and the other Ron Paul Republicans have done would be squandered. Barr alone, as Plan B, is what we're left with. (Plus the other B, Chuck Baldwin, of course.)
It's pretty sad that the Libertarian Party can't find a good enough candidate that they have to solicit a Republican to run under their banner. Coming in third place in the de facto two-party system doesn't get you much.
So, which states are projected to go the Libertarian Party in electoral college? Maine? New Hampshire? Will it even get a single percentage point of the popular vote? Will it even beat the Green Party with Ralph Nader? Will anyone care?
I'm sure Barr has plenty of options for a running mate from the list of contender already within your party.
If I thought minor parties had a chance, I'd get my man Jesse to run. Not going to happen. Perhaps he'll run for Senate. That would be entertaining.
I plan to vote along with my principles, and I apologize in advance for using weasel wording below in expressing my pessimism in doing so.
In my pessimism, my guess is that over half of the people in this country won't even know who the Libertarian Candidate is come November. Half of the ones that do know who he is will call him a "kook" or a non-viable option. The remaining people will objectively consider him as a candidate and some will vote for him and some will not.
My other guess, which isn't even hard to predict, is that the Libertarian candidate won't win one state -- not that people shouldn't vote for him -- by all means vote according to your principles.
How are we better than the socialists who force someone to sacrifice their self for the good of society if we were to force him to run on an LP ticket. rtbohan's article had many points that I agree with- one of them being how unfair it is of us to ask someone who was a reluctant standard bearer to begin with.
You're asking someone you admire due to his principles to go back on one of them. And the challenges he will face are just not worth it. He will not succeed!
He will not get access on all the states, he will not persuade the biased electoral college, and most importantly, he will not get into the debates. He will be remembered as the man who gave Hillary the presidency.
Is that truly what you want of him? Think about how hard it is convincing people to give him a chance now.
As much as we all want to see this, it is not feasible.
First, think in the general election context. If the Republicans lose more seats in House and Senate(which I don't think we will see losses like in special elections, but there will probably be some), and we see a democratic president, then we will see the opportunity for a GOP in shambles.
With increased interest in liberty candidates like Barr and Baldwin, I believe that we can defeat McCain. This allows the image of a GOP collapsed.
However, amidst all this, we see something else. Ron Paul Republicans gain perhaps 5 seats total. A few Democrats beat, neo-con contenders fended off. Suddenly, the RPR's seem a bit more legitimate. Then, we can see real change to the system.
Don't rush things; we have to play the political game to win.
Wow, I am shocked. Sounds like most all of the comments so far were written by McCainites (neocons) who are scared to death of what a Paul/Barr ticket would bring. You all talk about Paul/Barr bringing single diget vote percentages. Evidently you are not aware of the vote fraud and manipulation (diebold machines) that occurred across this country. The MSM lockout of RP, the GOP cheating at our local caucus/conventions to keep RP delegates down. (who are you people?) I agree with the article, the time is now. When could we ever have this oppotunity again? RP has never closed that door, he has said "I have no plans to do that" and it was because of the difficulty and cost of getting on state primaries etc. He has already been there, done that. Listen folks, if we don't get RP elected this time around, our country, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights will cease to exist. I am going to call RP and ask him to do this, and instead of whinning and nay saying, how about you supossed RP supporters, stand up, get involved, do something, other than accepting one of the three stooges to be our next POTUS. It is RP's decision, but let him know that you would support him if he made that decision. We have an opportunity to turn this country around, lets not let it pass. Don't have to tell your grandchildren that you could saved the USA, but decided not to. Call RP today.
The only thing shocking here is you fools who insist on things that goes against the will of many others, and then fail to see the irrationality of it all. You then proceed to call everyone else to does not share your view RINOs, neocons, liberals, or whatever straw man attack you can think of.
But let's assume we did play your game. It's so much easier to show you how much of an idiot you make your side look when you make such assumptions.
1. "You all talk about Paul/Barr bringing single diget vote percentages. Evidently you are not aware of the vote fraud and manipulation (diebold machines) that occurred across this country."
Yeah, cause we all know e-voting fraud is ONLY limited to primaries and special elections- nothing national. Wait a sec...
2. "The MSM lockout of RP, the GOP cheating at our local caucus/conventions to keep RP delegates down. (who are you people?)"
You did nothing but confirm why bunch of people are arguing it's an implausible idea. The better question is who are YOU? You think you have the only solution? Then explain how we circumvent this media blackout and voting fraud, which you mentioned above.
3. "When could we ever have this oppotunity again? RP has never closed that door, he has said "I have no plans to do that" and it was because of the difficulty and cost of getting on state primaries etc."
You assume he considers the LP nod a last ditch effort, and therefore hasn't "closed that door". Why should he consider that when there are still those making in-roads against the establishment in his name?
Consider this: Ron Paul was a reluctant candidate. He was surprised of the reaction he got. He was surprised by the money he got. Now he's surprised by his book sales and the delegate conventions. He doesn't like to go back on his word, so of course naturally, he left the door open in case he ran out of surprises. Why should we decide when all this hard work and efforts come to an end?
4. "Listen folks, if we don't get RP elected this time around, our country, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights will cease to exist."
This just proves that you're one of those personality cultists. You assume that Ron Paul is the only chance we have this year to restore our country. That's pretty rude of you, deciding who has a more viable chance and who doesn't.
5. "I am going to call RP and ask him to do this, and instead of whinning and nay saying, how about you supossed RP supporters, stand up, get involved, do something, other than accepting one of the three stooges to be our next POTUS."
More idiotic assumptions. No worries. I didn't expect much else. Here you claim that we will simply vote for the evil of two lessers once again. Funny how you should know that we're"supossed RP supporters" because we don't share the same, hardcore stance you do. Sue us.
6. "It is RP's decision, but let him know that you would support him if he made that decision. We have an opportunity to turn this country around, lets not let it pass."
No one's saying that they wouldn't support him if he decided on his own, but we shouldn't compel him to do it just because we feel it would be a smarter move. If you honestly think, despite all the evidence that you laid detrimental to your own argument (voting fraud, censorship, lesser-of-two-evils syndrome, ballot access), that Ron Paul will win on the LP ticket, I don't know what drugs you're on.
Until you can refute these claims intelligently, your opinion should not be taken seriously and your call to action just as much so.
I wouldn't vote for Bob Barr if he were the only candidate running for the presidency, he's a LINO not truly Libertarian, not even a libertarian leaning Republican, he's closer to the neo-cons than to the libertarians, and yes he did vote FOR the PATRIOT Act. How the LP can accept him as a candidate is beyond my comprehension. I will be voting for Ron Paul even if McCain gets the nod from the GOP, I will write Ron Paul in on my ballot if he's not on it. If Ron Paul hadn't run, I probably would have voted for Kubby or Ruwart if they got the nod from the LP. I don't think any of the other LP candidates have the right stuff to carry the LP banner forward as the LP candidate for POTUS, most of them are complete unknowns and will remain unknown to the vast majority of voters throughout the rest of this election cycle.
I don't understand why people are so crazy and are blinded by popular media. There are so many things that are great about Ron Paul, I just don't understand why more people don't support him. I guess they are all brainwashed and their brains are full of depravity.

Ron Paul correctly realizes the issue is MUCH larger than just getting himself elected - even if that could be accomplished immediately I don't think Ron would go for it. Control of one of the parties MUST be obtained in order to change the requirements to access to the ballots. Both parties have made rules and legislation to ensure that only a member of one of those parties can appear successfully on a ballot. Also the parties have large war chests and personnel dedicated to electing people. Until control of at least one party is obtained these policies cannot be changed. Dr. Paul has stated as much though he (for obvious reasons) cannot officially adopt that as his strategy - it would be inimical to the GOP. Changing these rules is almost as important as dismantling the FED - it will allow a wider range of candidates access to office.
