When I was eight years old, I was at that point in school where you could play games in class that were fun rather than educational. The point of it, I think, was to teach us that we could enjoy school after all. Who knew?
I remember one day playing a game in music class. It was a standing Duck-Duck-Goose kind of affair. Someone walks around the circle and picks a random kid. Chase ensues. Race ends when chased is tagged or chased makes it back to his place. Simple stuff. Had a blast.
Well, eventually, it was my turn to get chased. And I ran for everything my awkward asthmatic body was worth. And to this day, I contend I made it back to my place. But I got tagged just as I got there. And what followed was a minute's worth of vigorous debate on the issue. I swore that spot was mine, that I'd run the better race, it shouldn't be me chasing now - but the teacher wasn't having that.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? No? It should.
Hillary Clinton's campaign is on the skids. No joke. She is, according to The Washington Post, twenty million dollars in debt. She has yet to make any kind of gain that Barack Obama can't unmake. So the two continue their passive-aggressive game of 'Let's Finish This, But Not Yet.'
Her case for staying in this thing is that she can have strong showings in West Virginia and Kentucky. Her campaign, according to the article, says that these two states are vital to taking the White House. Also, Obama will not be so aggressive in those states. So she's basically contending that she'll have strong showings in places where her rival candidate won't even try, in two small states that really don't have any political power on November 5. You don't win a presidential election on 13 electoral votes. You need all the other small states as well... which, incidentally, Obama has won.
In short, Clinton doesn't have a strong case for continuing this thing. The only thing she's got left is petty pride. Either that or Bill is just really desperate to get back in the White House and won't let his wife quit. But still. It's been a long time since I've seen children figure so prominently in things.
