GOP Rule Change Could Help Ron Paul in Utah

The Ron Paul Revolution fights on...

The Ron Paul Revolution fights on in Utah as over 100 people have filed to run as national delegates, many of them for the first time and in support of Ron Paul.

As in Nevada and Minnesota, a number of Utah Ron Paul supporters are trying to get elected as delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Under a proposed rule change they could be free to vote for whomever they want.

With the existing party rules, the 36 Utah delegates to the convention are obligated to vote for Mitt Romney, who won the state GOP primary with 90 percent of the vote. But today, the state party will consider changing its rules to release the delegates and let them vote for whom they see fit.

The proposed bylaws change comes in response to a request from Romney, after he dropped out of the race, to release his bound delegates, freeing them to support whomever they want at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul in September. Paul supporters are attempting to get elected as delegates in order to keep Sen. John McCain from getting enough delegate support to clinch the nomination. That could force a brokered convention, they argue, and give Paul a path to win the nomination.

"We will try to force a brokered convention ... there is no way around it," writes Steve Parent of "The Daily Paul". Last month, the Nevada GOP convention ended in chaos, as Paul supporters were poised to be elected to a majority of the 31 state delegate slots.

Party leaders abruptly adjourned the convention without picking the national delegates. Paul supporters cried foul claiming that the process was rigged.

In Utah it's the McCain camp that's behind the resolution to unbind the state delegates. They plan to follow that up with a second resolution binding them to vote for McCain instead. The RPR position is to vote against both motions. Keeping Utah's delegates bound for Romney for the first ballot makes them all votes against McCain on that ballot.

Why is it that the atmost 20% of the Republican Party's voting base wants to make democracy a joke? Why do they wish for a guy who didn't win a single primary in his own state to win the Presidency? I mean really, I like Ron Paul's positions on most things, but even I know that he lost the election by a landslide. We really need to give up on his revolution and encourage him to run for a higher office. I say the Governor's seat or a Senate seat.

The idea of democracy is the joke, We live in a democratic republic, until Americans realize this and stop calling it a democracy, we will continue to have more of the same vile shit from our benevolent government.
