Message for Libertarians

A message I wrote for all libertarians, and wish to share with all LP Delegates... summarizing why I'm running, what I stand for, and what I will always dedicate myself to as a libertarian in America.

(Libertarian)
Monday, May 5, 2008

Greetings,

Below is a copy of a message I wrote not only for 2008 LP delegates, but for all libertarians interested in knowing more about me; because the message represents what I stand for and work for as a libertarian, I wanted to share it with my readers here as well. It succinctly covers the major issues, as well as my motivation - thus, it is something I share with my Nolan Chart column readers because it communicates much about why I seek the LP nomination, and fundamentally, what I will always dedicate myself to as a libertarian in America. (Thank you, Walt Thiessen, for your previous article which I also quote from below.)

I am pleased to also share that we have a special page on my campaign website just for Libertarian delegates to the 2008 LP Convention in Denver, May 22-26. Interestingly, every delegate I've spoken with so far (except for one) was completely unaware of the token procedure which will be used for more than one function at the National Convention. Thus, I'm pleased to share not only that information, but much more with delegates. For the full page, including delegate information regarding how the tokens will function as well as additional info from me, I invite all LP Delegates and other libertarians to visit my special 2008 LP Delegate Page at: [link edited for length]
and I look forward to meeting many of you soon.
Christine Smith
Libertarian candidate for president

My message (regarding my LP presidential campaign) for libertarians and LP Delegates--

2008 LP Delegates:
Although I've met many of you, there are those I haven't had an opportunity to visit personally - I look forward to meeting all of you in Denver shortly, and invite you meanwhile view VIDEOS of my recent speeches, interviews and debates, as well as take a look at the media coverage (more than any other LP presidential candidate has received as of March 31, 2008) on my MEDIA page. (I've appeared on numerous AM-Radio talk shows nationwide - a good number of them on 50,000-watt stations - I've already reached millions sharing with them our message of liberty, my campaign, libertarianism, and the LP. During my campaign, I visited the San Diego, Oregon, New Mexico, Indiana, Illinois, the tri-state [Pennsylvania/New Jersey/West Virginia] in PA, and the 5-state (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa) in MO, Libertarian Conventions.

I am a true libertarian. I will never compromise libertarian principles.

I am a firm believer in individual liberty, personal responsibility, free markets, free immigration, and a small government limited only to its constitutionally authorized functions - the principles our nation was founded upon and which once made us both great and greatly admired worldwide. Our nation achieved that greatness and respect, and we reaped the fruits of our labor because we lived in a society that welcomed innovation, creativity, and self-reliance. We didn't look to a government to care for us or protect us, we looked to ourselves - and it worked! And you know what? It will still work - if we return to the values we as a people once cherished.

I believe you - far better than a government bureaucrat - can best spend your money to benefit you and your family. I don't think you need government bureaucrats to make economic and social decisions for you. I trust you can do a much better job for yourself! That's why I want to get the government out of our lives. You should make the decisions for your life. I should make the decisions for mine. You should be free to control your life - as others must be free to control theirs. Tyranny or liberty - it's your choice.

My campaign theme is "Americans Awake!"

Dramatically shrinking the size, power and cost of the federal government by limiting government to its constitutionally authorized functions, adopting a non-interventionist foreign policy, and creation of a stable economy by ending government's artificially controlled economy - will result in a more prosperous peaceful United States for all Americans.

On every issue, you will find that I express libertarian solutions to every crisis facing the American people.

A fellow libertarian writer and columnist at The Nolan Chart Website (of which he is founder), Walt Thiessen, summarized key areas of my platform accurately and succinctly when he said of me:

  • She wants us to get out of Iraq and to bring our troops home from around the world.
  • She is committed to defending America's shores.
  • She wants to end foreign aid.
  • She is opposed to NAFTA, CAFTA, WTO, etc. and favors free trade instead.
  • She is a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment.
  • She wants smaller government and wants to end government overspending, eliminate the IRS, and abolish unconstitutional programs.
  • She wants to abolish the Federal Reserve and restore hard currency.
  • She pledges to veto every unconstitutional bill presented to her by Congress.
  • She opposes Real ID.
  • She favors restoring and protecting the Bill of Rights.
  • She opposes Federal discriminatory practices such as affirmative action and quotas, and she opposes preferential treatment.
  • She opposes the use of torture under any circumstances.
  • She wants to end Federal involvement in education.
  • She wants to restore control to parents on subjects such as religion, choice of schools, choice of curricula, etc.
  • She'll fight all forms of pollution by the Federal government, noting correctly that it is the #1 polluter in the world.

I am or health freedom on every issue as I believe you own your body and have a fundamental right to make choices for yourself free from federal government intrusion.

Again, view and listen to my interviews and speeches; and do communicate with me - I welcome hearing from you prior to our meeting in Denver.

I ask that delegates who want to see me in the CSPAN debate bring their tokens to me at Table 17. Thank you.

I ask that you give me the honor of bringing our message of liberty - of libertarian solutions - to many more Americans by electing me as your 2008 LP Presidential Candidate. I bring true libertarian solutions to Americans: women, minorities, young adults, and men nationwide sharing the benefits of liberty: peace and prosperity. Together, let's achieve liberty in America. Thank you.

You make an excellent presentation. I am concerned that the LP (and its candidates)have not sought to focus the public on how the election system in the U.S. has been deliberately manipulated by laws passed by the two self-entrenching parties to nullify voters' rights. I hope you will undertake to feature this issue in your campaign. If you want specifics for a reform agenda I've got a ton of material which support five key needed reforms. Wish I could be at the Denver Convention, but it's unlikely.

This all sounds good, but the article that you wrote in support of the controversial LP press release, calling on the federal government to fight a war on child pornography, seems to me to be at odds with the claim that you would veto any unconstitutional bills sent to you and that you support libertarian solutions to every issue.  You, in fact, supported asking the federal government to protect our children for us (scary thought) and to use an unconstitutional agency (the FBI) to do so.  Crime is under the jurisdiction of the states and local governments.

Was this a mistake or do you interpret the U.S. Constitution differently than most libertarians?

Child Pornography should be legal. That is the libertarian stance!

North American Man-Boy Love Association votes Libertarian.

I hope that the comment below mine was sarcasm or a troll.  Being opposed to government programs that purport to stop something is not the same thing as being in favor of the thing that is purportedly being stopped.  For example, one can oppose the war on drugs without being in favor of drug use.  Anybody who wants to abuse young children is obviously sick.

The libertarian stance is, in fact, that children should be protected from abuse -- including from members of NAMBLA -- but that the federal government is not the entity to do that.  The best ways to protect children have nothing to do with government.

The NAMBLA comment is asinine and pathetic.

NAMBLA Members have been persecuted for far too long. We are libertarians and we don't abuse children, rather all of our personal relationships are consentual. You wouldn't stop a gay man from having sex with another consenting man, so why do you want to go after NAMBLA? This should be a state-by-state issue, unfortunately the Bush Administration has made it so that NAMBLA members are not safe. We are sane and normal people who are functional members of society. Why do you guys support the polygamist compounds but not NAMBLA? Is it because we do not have a religious reason for wanting to have consentual relationships with young boys? In some cultures in the world it was expected of young boys to have sexual relations with older boys as a rite of passage into adulthood. Why do we say that we are free in America when NAMBLA members continue to be oppressed?

Some cultures sacrificed young children to the gods. Should we do likewise?

Young children do not have the ability to consent to sexual activity and rational adults know this.  Serial killers are often "functional members" of society, too.  That doesn't mean that their serial killing should be tolerated.

Sex is not murder Scott. Sex is consentual.

Sex is not, by definition, consensual.  That is why we have laws against rape.  Young children are not able to consent to something they do not even understand.  Especially if they are too young to even communicate adequately.  That should be obvious to you.

I find Christine's libertarian stance very appealing and support almost every single statement she has made.  However, I do not think that the United States could sustain unlimited immigration for long without disasterous economic consequences.  NAMBLA, with their perverted view of consent with children who have not yet developed a full sense of (anything) is Libertarian?  I may have to renounce my affiliation with the Libertarian Party if that is true.  (That was a tongue in cheek comment).
