There is talk that the Republican Party could possibly turn to Ron Paul to be its standard bearer if somehow John McCain melts down come convention time.  It is a huge stretch to suggest that the corrupt GOP would even remotely turn to Ron Paul if McCain melted down at the convention. They would never ever nominate Ron Paul. His following and message are a threat to the very existence of the neo-con stranglehold and to the military-industrial-empire it represents.  The fact that he is still campaigning in the Republican primaries, commendable as that may be, confirms the zero chance Ron Paul will have of even addressing the GOP convention in any capacity.

Dissension in the seats, turmoil and rumblings on the streets of the St. Paul GOP convention later this summer will be a dramatic backdrop to a freedom movement that is flexing its muscles inside and outside the corrupt GOP and proving to the nation that the freedom movement means business and will go toe-to-toe.  To hell with the notion of voting for the lesser of two evils.  Don't you want to vote for a candidate on the ballot with a clear conscience?  Of course.

There is growing perplexity as to why Ron Paul has decided to not yet 'revise and extend' the message of freedom and liberty and proceed to recruit millions of new converts in the context of a general presidential election by running 3rd Party. He's the freedom movement's rock star.  He's got increasing name recognition, he's got 100,000 person volunteer army ready to hit the streets to help spread the freedom message, an Amazon.com best-selling book, and he sits atop a $4 - 6 million campaign war chest that could grow to near $100 million if he simply challenges the soon-to-be annointed freedom destroyers.  Perhaps more importantly, the huge lessons learned in the recent 2007 campaign that didn't see hard-hitting Paul campaign ads until late in the campaign season around the time of the CPAC convention.  The advertising rates will never be more advantageous for reaching millions and millions in the upcoming general election.  We simply cannot take no for an answer!  Period!

Never forget this salient fact:  It is the Republican Party that left Ron Paul.  Ron Paul never changed his views on the economic and social benefits of liberty and freedom and constitutional government.  It is the Republican Party that has been for years underway, sailing into the straits of personal corruption and special interest politics.  While waging eternal war on our God-given liberties and acting as business agents for the military-industrial-empire, in search of monsters abroad to destroy.

Unfortunately, Paul refuses to confront the dire warnings of the founding fathers who understood the bain and tyranny of entrenched political parties. Have we not seen enough? What more do people want to see? Is  the $9 trillion run-up in debt with an empire near collapse along with our freedoms not enough to convince yourself that the Republorats are not worth supporting? The GOP and the Democratic parties have become one corporate special interest party interested in maintaining the military-industrial complex, of which General and President Eisenhower sternly warned against.

While I personally feel we are much closer to being rounded up in FEMA camps well before we get even close to taking over the GOP,   the actions to influence and change the party from the grassroots up is commendable and fits into this strategy.  Operating in and outside the party will help speed up the collapse of the corrupt old guard that now controls the GOP.  Let them fear the freedom movement as we prove our power!  We must never refrain from battling them but we must never put all our eggs in one tactic as we have presently.  We must get Ron Paul on the 50-state national general election ballot.  To hell with McCain and the wars he will wage if elected.  He must be denied election in any case.

Ron Paul had to be cajoled and arm-twisted to get in the race in the first place back in early 2007. It must dawn on his supporters across the country to lean hard on Paul now to be on the general election ballot, so that millions more, in the context of a presidential election, will be exposed and awaken to all the freedoms and liberties being stolen.   Millions will join the revolution.  I repeat, Millions will rally to freedom and liberty's cause.  In the months and few short years to come, then what kind of leverage will we be able to exert politically?  It will be huge.  Huge!

Now is the time to demand Ron Paul be on every ballot in America come November 2008. The Libertarian Convention is 22-26 May in Denver. Now is the time for Ron Paul to put his name in the hat for a sure presidential nomination and have his name placed on every ballot from Hawaii to Maine, Alaska to Florida. Supporters lets inundate Ron Paul and his lovely wife, Carol, with calls and letters urging them to please, for the sake of the republic, to run on the Libertarian Party ticket so the people at least can cast a vote for freedom in good conscience.  It's up to all of us to take action and contact Ron Paul!  No is not an option.

As supporters of Ron Paul, we must realize he is a national treasure and his singular talents must be utilized, in the context of a general presidential election, to blast away at the edifices of lies, propaganda, and deceit that obscure and obstruct the path back to the republic!  Victory in 2008 will come in the form of millions of newly turned-on Americans (and foreigners world-wide, for that matter) who will join us in turning the aircraft carrier of state around in the months and the few short years to come.  For we know in our heart or hearts, we do not have much time left to regain this nations's birthright!

Seriously, would the activists of the day have let George Washington or other history making leaders retire to the back bench of the legislature when real leadership was required? Is our country no-less at history's perilous turning point between freedom and fascism? We must have our best man, our best communicator in this presidential battle. The ripple-effect will be much larger and spur a  move toward liberty much quicker if Ron Paul is in direct competition.

Either we compete with our best team leader on the field of ideas or we become history's footnote.  Never forget, its the message, people!  Heed the founders warnings and lets move confidently forward into the warming light of freedom's battle and all that it has to offer the generations to come.  The time to act is now!

We cannot take no for an answer, Ron Paul.  The founders did not take no for an answer.  With a founding father-like figure among us, Ron Paul, and now all of us, we, as an educated citizenry and inheritors of all the freedoms and liberties the founders fought for, the named and the un-named to history, and the lessons and instructions they left us, will you now take no for an answer?

Contact Ron and Carol Paul at the campaign phone number and urge Ron to run on the LP ticket.  Tell Ron and Carol, respectfully, how much you love them, but, you will not take no for an answer:

(703) 248-9115

Email the Campaign to urge Ron Paul to run on the Libertarian Party ticket that will result in his name on all 50 state ballots.

Write letters to the Campaign headquarters urging Ron Paul to run on the Libertarian Ticket (Ron's a lifetime member, ya know).

Ron Paul  3461 Washington Blvd., Suite 200, Arlington, VA 22201

Urge your liberty and freedom contacts to call and write Ron Paul and lets get him in this game.  The time is now!  The watch word is agitate, agitate, agitate.   Swear you will not take no for an answer!   Because the more millions that will come to our side, the greater the leverage we will have, then we win it all!

I heard Dr. Paul say in an interview that in some states, once you have run in one party, you cannot have your name on the ballot for another party.

I don't think he would run. I'd be surprized if he did.  I would definately vote for him, but I planned on writing his name in anyway.

Another author eager to nullify Ron Paul's career and undermine his legacy.  Shame on you for putting your futile wishes ahead of another man's principles and his entire life of living according to those principles.

Fortunately Dr. Paul knows that winning is a futile accomplishment if done outside the GOP.

I'd love to see him run.  I'd definitely work for him, contribute the max and vote for him.

But I won't badger him.  He has to make that decision.  There is no way he doesn't know what we want.  It's up to him.

If it really came down to Hillary versus McCain, I used to think that he shouldn't run, but as my opinion grows that a destructive Democrat in the Oval Office might help rattle some people to their senses, I don't care whether or not Ron Paul is labelled a spoiler. However, the question is if that happened, how would the media use that to further cripple his ideas, our movement, and what would the GOP do in response? Would they honestly run after us? I doubt it.

The stakes are even higher should Obama get the nom, with both of these guys competing for the youth vote, Hillary voters going to McCain, and independents split 3-ways. I'd have to say that McCain would come out on top. There's just no way that Paul could win in this scenario. It's like that MySpace primary deja-vu all over again, but on a national scale this time. And we're not voting on the internet.

I'm hoping, though doubtful, that either Hillary or Obama will run on an independent ticket. For all the BS that's going on with the Dems right now, I can't see them actually taking it to a whole new level and splitting the party. They're just being good little accomplices.

Talking about a 3rd party run is a distraction.  3rd parties don't win the White House, 3rd parties aren't invited to debate on prime time TV, and 3rd parties are ignored by the print media.

Focus on the current goal of gaining delegates, and continue to educate people to the message.   The message is beautiful, and will grow beyond this presidential cycle.

Victory is not assured. Paul would be lucky to crack 10% as the Libertarian nominee. He'd be looked at as a traitor in the GOP -- if his name were mentioned at all at the National Convention, it would be only to be booed -- all the work the Ron Paul Republicans have done to make inroads in that party would be thrown away. Not to mention that Paul would probably lose his Congressional nomination as well.

There is  a grassroots effort underway to put Ron Paul on the ballot as an "Individual Candidate" in as many states as possible. He'll get alot of interviews. He can laugh it off and claim the movement is directing him, he's not directing the movement, "humbled by the "symbolic gesture" of his supporters"  and affirm he's "still a Republican", "still seeking the Republican nomination" yada yada.

I am so disgusted by the 2 party system.  One is just as corrupt as the other.  See the following article [link edited for length]

However, I think that there is some rule about not being able to run on another ticket if you failed to get the nomination of your original party. I may be confused about that, though.

No matter how you slice it, I really think that it boils down to getting people elected into office that share the same values.  How would ANY President get anything done if the House and Senate don't back him.  They would have to pull a George Bush and just do whatever he wants.  You know that RP would not do that.  He will stick by the constitution.  He (or anyone) has to be surrounded by people who are with him.     ............on the other side of the coin...........if a third party candidate could somehow get elected, what a message THAT would be to the elected that they better go along!

Prayers, everyone, prayers!  We will not bring this much needed change about without Divine intervention.

What many observers may be oblivious to is the role Dr. Paul has taken on as the elephant sitting politely in the middle of the room, clearing his throat occasionally and quietly mentioning that " ahem, am I not the symbol which stands for the republican party?" In other words, he's the irritant who just won't go away, and keeps bringing up the obvious fact that the American political process is broken and threatening to go beyond the point of no return. Of course, much of the party is irredemably in denial, but Ron Paul holds out hope that enough of the intelligent republicans will notice in time to avert disaster for our country. Regardless of what happens in september, if this occurs, it will have been enough. When the convention rolls around times will be getting hard enough that even the totally brainwashed will have to admit that president Homer as usual just won't cut it anymore.

Thank you for writing this.  It is dead on.

Ron Paul has a choice.  He can continue to be a major player, attacting millions to the liberty movment, or he can spend his remaining few years being the loser in 434 to 1 votes in congress.

Sorry, this viewpoint is not only shortsighted, it's just wrong.  Dr. Paul is playing for much higher stakes than a party.  He's exploiting the GOP name and label to get more success, something, even as limited as it is, is far more than he would get in a third party.  Dr. Paul is well aware of the Founding Father's warnings about political parties.  But he is enough of a savvy political operator to know how to use that machine to his benefit even while not liking it.  And that's what he's doing.

Respectfully sir, I am already looking at the slate of candidates from the Libertarian Party and trying to decide who I would support with my vote.  Christine Smith is out in front in my mind just now, and (with a stretch) I could go with Bob Barr too.  Dr. Paul has said that he will not run as  Libertarian, and I have taken him at his word.  BTW, I also see that Chuck Baldwin got the Constitution Party's nod - just in case the Libertarians nominate a smurf-colored fruitcake - or an unrepentant liberal Democrat.

Dr. Paul hasn't made any errors yet that I am aware of and I trust that he will not make this one.  Hold 'er steady folks.  Anything is possible in todays politics.  Even with the mainstream media bias.  I really think something dire will happen to the  McCain campaign.  The truth will be wielded.  The genie just needs to be let out of that bottle one time!  Campaign finance reform, could be anything.  'Songbird sing'n in the dead of night.'  Revolutions take time...  Integrity does not bend.

My column, "Ron Paul Dropped the Ball" explained the exact same sentiment with a lot less rambling.  However, I concur - Ron Paul should seek the nomination of the LP.

"Sore Loser" laws to ballot access are something I addressed in the post script to my column.  Other presidential candidates have run in one party's primaries only to run again as independents or members of other parties.  If Dr. Paul is as concerned about Liberty as he says he is, running on the LP ticket and challenging these laws in court is an excellent opportunity for him to do more than be the lone "NO" vote on various bills in Congress.

I realize that Ron Paul is getting a lot of mileage out of his Republican Primary candidacy, but that is nearing the end of the road.

And anyone who thinks the people who hold the cards will allow Ron Paul to be nominated in the event of a John McCain meltdown is delusional.  Mitt Romney's delegates can still vote for Mitt Romney in the event of a meltdown.

Ron Paul has been a Republican Congressman for 30 years and what's been the result?  Lot's of lost 434 to 1 votes.  Most people never even heard of him until this election.

Many will use the 88 run as a counter argument, but this one would be different.  There has never been an LP candidate with this kind of name recognition, momentum, and money.  He has a huge head start, and their was no Internet to speak of back then.

It's all about momentum, and the only way to keep the momentum is a Libertarian Party run.  Otherwise he fades into obscurity, a historical footnote.

Tad is on to it. We need to get the grassroots to get out, get the signatures and draft Dr. Paul to the ballot, this way he can deflect all the negatives that everyone just mentioned. Although he would most likely not get anything tangible, it would be the voice, the dissent of the people speaking loud and clear to the GOP.

I believe the greatest benefit to the charge that Dr Paul has taken towards the white house is the grass roots foundation of change towards politics and the people we elect from local, state, and federal office that has occurred in the wake of his campaign. From this foundation we can build fundamental change in all levels of government which is truly needed and in the long term will provide greater long term change than one presidential election. We must all look broadly at this revolution that Dr Paul has begun and not narrowly at this single election.

scw,

I have to disagree. Dr. Paul has been firm about wanting our wars to be declared constitutionally and wanting a well defined outcome. To look at the revolution "broadly" at best is sickening similar to signing up for a 100 year war with an undefined outcome, and at worst it is ammo for our opponents looking for any excuse to call his ideas losing.

The well defined goal is to win the presidency. We can cross the bridge to nowhere when we come to it. Winning at the RNC or the attempts thereof are the immediate challenge, and the goal is now to attain an unconventional victory *for the presidency*.

Lincoln beat Seward unconventionally, and so can Ron Paul.
