It seems Wednesday night's Florida Youtube debate combined with the latest grassroots fundraising drive has catapulted Ron Paul's campaign chest to the $10 million mark. Around 11:10 A.M. Eastern time the official Ron Paul campaign website allowed viewers to watch the live funds tracker roll past the $10 million figure. This puts Ron Paul in the million-dollar double digits with another full month of fundraising still ahead.
Paul already turned heads in the third quarter when he raised over $5 million, a figure on par with the money that rival John McCain had raised for the same period. This garnered much attention from the mainstream media, but that was quickly outdone when grassroots supporters broke on-line presidential fundraising records by donating over $4 million in a 24-hour period. The Paul campaign has been aware of the latest upcoming moneybomb, Tea Party '07, and has stated that it is grateful for such efforts. However, campaign finance director Jonathan Bydlak recently issued this plea for bringing the money in sooner:
Thanks to your continued support, we are closing in on three important fundraising milestones for the fourth quarter:
-- During the third quarter, Fred Thompson raised $9,750,821 to be used during the primary election cycle.
-- Not counting money that he loaned to his own campaign, Mitt Romney raised $9,896,719.
-- Rudy Giuliani finished with $10,258,019.
Ron Paul is currently at $9,708,791 for the fourth quarter.
We are within reach of passing Fred Thompson today! Will you help us storm past these fundraising totals over a month sooner than they did?
It looks like Ron Paul supporters just came through for their man once again.
