One candidate for the Libertarian Party nomination for President has dropped his candidacy to support Bob Barr for the office.

Bob Jackson, an entrepreneur from Constantine, Michigan has announced his withdrawal from the campaign on the basis that a better candidate has entered the race.  He provides a link to Barr's campaign website.  He says that his website will temporarily remain up so that his libertarian stand on the issues can be used for educational purposes, but that he intends to take it down soon (www.bobjackson.org)  Mr. Jackson had been conducting an active media and personal appearance campaign in southern Michigan and Northern Indida, primarily, and was listed by the LP as the fourth largest financial contributor to the Party among the candidates.

It is clear that Bob Barr's camdodacy is important for the Libertarian Party this year, but, while Mr. Jackson's endorsement and withdrawal will help, the race for the nomination is clearly not over.  I fully expect the six candidates who debated at the Heartland Conference to contrinue to seek the nomination, because each of them bring a record of commitment and a range of positions to the race

The Libertarian Party website lists a number of other potential candidates.  When I wrote about the candidates in the race after the Heartland Conference, one commenter asked why I did not mention Steve Kubby.  The answer is that Steve Kubby did not participate in the debate and his multiple websites have been pretty inactive recently.  As for the others,  George Dance has written an interesting article on Nolanchart about  Daniel Imperato, who seems to be interested in re-establishing the Perot coalition and is seeking the Libertarian nomination as part of that coalition. Some of the other candidates listed on the LP website seem to be people who are also seeking the nomination of other third parties.

I hope that over the next week we can get more articles on the other candidates for the partyis nomination .
