George Phillies on Libertarians and Conservatives

A Libertarian candidate for President with a caveat for conservatives

George Phillies, a candidate for the Presidentail nomination of the Libertarian Party, today issued an invitation to conservative supporters of Ron Paul, with an important caveat.

"Libertarians are not conservatives.  It is an act of fraud to lure conservatives by lying to them.  Claiming our party is consrvative is dishonest."

Dr. Phillies recognizes that many consrvatives hold libertarian views on some issues, just as liberals are in agreement with many llibertarian positions.  And he is not trying to turn the Libertarian Party into a liberal party.

To conservatives and liberals he says, "If you agree with us  on issues you care about, please vote for us. If you think you can trust our candidate, please vote for him."

But he also says, "America already has two conservative partie, Republican and Constitution. We should not become the third".

Without endorsing Dr. Phillies' candidacy, I think that libertarians, whether they are forcussed on economic liberty or more concerned with social and political liberty, should give his words today serious consideration.

I am a conservative libertarian. I don't like George Phillies. I do like Bob Barr and Ron Paul, though.
