I was amazed at Gail Suttle's comments found in the Commentary "Ron Paul supporters set sights on influencing Texas GOP". This article, written by W. Gardner Selby, appeared in the Austin American Statesman. Gail's comments showed how little she understands about Ron Paul and the rEVOlution. And, to boot, Gail Suttle's comments weren't so subtle. According to the article "Gail Suttle, active in GOP circles since the 1980s, watched the takeover in horror. Suttle e-mailed Republicans afterward: 'This group is NOT Republican...' she'd likened the Paulies to Hitler youth, saying they were to the right of Attila the Hun."
There are two things wrong with the comments above. First, supporters of Ron Paul are Republicans that are trying to take the GOP back from the NeoCons. The Paulistas are doing this with a grassroots movement and committed people (not people that should be committed as some NeoCons would say). Second, comparing Ron Paul supporters to Hitler youth is careless, ridiculous, and scary. Economic liberty and personal freedom are just two ideologies that the Paulistas stand for, and both are in direct contrast to what a fascist stands for.
So what is fascism? It is an authoritarian ideology that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party, or society as a whole. The following elements are usually seen as integral parts of fascism: patriotism (Patriot Act), nationalism (National ID), and militarism (Undeclared Wars). Fascism is also known by its opposition to economic liberalism (and dependence on a controlling group such as the Federal Reserve).
Not surprisingly, the definition of a fascist could be used to describe a NeoCon. Is it not surprising that Ron Paul and his supporters are called libertarians because they are for personal and economic liberty?
By the way, the article was not all negative. There was some positive information contained in the article as follows:
"The results at Travis County's state Senate District 25 convention left old-guard Republicans wondering who lost the party's car keys — and worse... Caucusing voters then elected delegates to the district convention. People aligned with Paul's beliefs landed 32 of the convention's 36 delegate slots for the state convention. The activists harbor long-term hopes. They want the GOP to re-commit to chestnut tenets such as slimmed government, lower taxes and respect for privacy."
It's not surprising that the rEVOLution began in Austin, Texas and is now taking root all over the country. Let freedom (NOT fascism) ring!

Excellent article, thanks for making it clear what fascism really is. How absurd it is that someone supporting a fascist government is calling another group of people fascists who are actually fighting against fascism!
You are right. The mindset of these types of close-minded people is really scary. I wonder what kind of "horror" she'll feel watching the actual "takeover" of the American people by the government.
If someone calls someone a "nappy headed ho" they're expected to give a public apology, right? I consider being called one of Hitlers children extremely offensive & if it were me,I'd push for her to "retract" her statement as Julieannie so likes to say..lol..Make a big deal, get media attention :D
The misuse of the word "fascist" is just one of a long list of examples of the corruption of the language by the politically correct thought police. It is an example of Orwellian Newspeak. Call "black" "white" often enough and pretty soon people are incapable of rational thought.
Libertarian Republican is an oxymoron. First because there is a libertarian party...there's no such thing as a Democrat Republican because there is a democratic party.
I think her comments are accurate... Ron Paul himself and his supporters still in the Republican party are justifiably miss labeled because they should be building up their own house instead of trying to take over someone elses.
Thanks for your comments. But, her comments are not accurate. You can't be a libertarian and be a fascist. You can be a republican and conservative. So, why can't you be a republican from the Goldwater, Reagon, Taft school of thought. The NeoCons have driven this country into wars, debt, and fear (using national security for people to give up their rights). I've been a republican almost all my life except for when the NeoCons took over. The Ron Paul people are reshaping and redefining the Republican party towards more individual rights and freedom. What's wrong with that? Is that non-Republican?
Jessie Jones, nice try, but your comment was completely senseless. Firstly, fascism (and also Trotskyism) can be applied to current Neocons in the Republican Party. It cannot be applied, by a long shot, to the average Ron Paul supporter. Libertarianism can be applied to many Ron Paul supporters. Secondly, as Ron Paul has a huge array of supporters, so can Democrat, Republican, Libertarian Party member, (not all libertarians are LP members), Christian right, conservative, Consitutionalist, independent, and others. Thirdly, the Republican Party, for quite a long time, did lean towards libertarian and Constitutionalist ideals. So many Ron Paul supporters are trying to reclaim the Republican Party, which is rightfully their 'house'.
Look up factions in the republican party. There are many.
Here are a few:
Religious Right (Pat Robertson, John Ashcroft, Gary Bauer, etc.), Social Conservative (David Vitter), Fiscal Conservative (Newt Gingrich), Neoconservative (Paul Wolfowitz), Paleoconservative (Pat Buchanon), Libertarian Conservative (Ron Paul, Barry Goldwater Jr.)... All of these factions have a right to be in the Republican Party, it is just a matter of which faction will have the most impact on shaping the direction that the Republican Party goes in... There are also Moderate Republicans (Christine Todd Whitman) and Liberal Republicans (Rudy Giuliani, Michael Bloomberg). There are even Log Cabin Republicans (no reference to Abe Lincoln)... The argument that the Republican Party ideology is based solely on the neocons is a weak argument and not true. Ron Paul and his supporters have every right to express their views at Republican conventions. Hopefully, they wil continue to do so and change the direction that the Republican Party is going. Because the direction that the Republican Party has been going is a sinking ship.
"Libertarian Republican is an oxymoron. First because there is a libertarian party...there's no such thing as a Democrat Republican because there is a democratic party.

FALSE. The Republican party has the same basic platform on a federal level as the libertarian party. The difference between the 2 parties seperate on a state level, where republicans think the state should have control, while the libertarians generally feel the local communities and citizens should have control. But on the federal level, libertarians are the same as real conservatives. The libertarian party mainly exists for those who realize the republican party is all talk. Same reason why conservative Ron Paul ran for the libertarian party.
You guys are completely delusional. You'd follow Ron Paul off a cliff. If he was caught snorting cocaine in a jacuzzi full of hookers I'm sure someone from Nolan Charts would write an article about how brave he is for practicing civil disobedience or highlight other politicians who've done more...
PATHETIC
Ron Paul is implementing a strategy. Strategies are either right or wrong, effective or ineffective. For the very reason that Thomas just mentioned, the current plan is ineffective. The Republican party has so many factions that any success is in constant state of threat because someone could...I don't know...USE THE SAME TACTIC AGAINST US...
Why empower our enemy...or more accurately...the opposition. Why give them a play book that they could easily use against us if we do gain power? Why!!!
By the way, isn't the basic platform of libertarianism to not use force. Are we not forcing the Republican party to accept something that on a majority level is not something they agree with. Isn't a better plan for us to gain more libertarians in the Libertarian Party and use the same tactic of the Independents which is act as a bending rod to any candidate until we can have a viable candidate step forward?
But why am I wasting my breath with sheppel...I'll bet if Ron Paul asked you to wipe his ass someone here would save the tissue.
"Hopefully, they wil continue to do so and change the direction that the Republican Party is going. Because the direction that the Republican Party has been going is a sinking ship."
This is exactly the captain save a hoe mentality that I'm talking about. Why save a party that has been complicit in the exinction of habeas corpus? Why save a party that committed mass murder in the slaughtering of over 1.5 million Iraqi lives. Why give them a strategy of success? Let them get beat by the Democrats and let the American public see what Democratic Socialism really looks like so that in 2012 we're still in Iraq, Bin Laden still isn't caught (because he's dead already) and they realize finally that neither Republicans nor Democrats will do anything we can step up after 4 years of planning to fill the gap. Now if the strategy is to use the Republican political machine to elect Libertarian candidates to positions of local and state government positions in order to have in place a mechanism to avoid voter suppression in the national election that's one thing but to try and take over the Republican party all together is quite ballsy don't you think...I mean they don't call them the GOP for nothing.
Jesse, you state: "You guys are completely delusional. You'd follow Ron Paul off a cliff. If he was caught snorting cocaine in a jacuzzi full of hookers I'm sure someone from Nolan Charts would write an article about how brave he is for practicing civil disobedience or highlight other politicians who've done more...

To be quite honest, writing stuff like you just did is taking this website to this level that is quite low. It is an insult to call others delusional.
It's not about saving the "Party". It's about finding the most effective way to do something. Third party runs won't do it. And why wait 4 years? Ron Paul is doing something now. Feel free to comment, but please try to restrain yourself from hurling insults. You should try intelligent reasoning, that is much more effective.

So, by responding to or lashing out at ol' J. Jones, you are simply feeding the beast. He reminds me of an attention starved child of adoption. Any attention you give, even negative attention, will suffice. Since that is the easiest way for him to get attention, he will continue with his childish smears and pathetic accusations. I mean, what kind of reasonable adult would use that kind of angle. It takes me back to 4th grade when somebody pulls out the classic "I bet you'd wipe his ass and save the tissue".
With that said, it was GOP that was hijacked, and Ron Paul who stands for traditional conservative values. I mean, if the Republican party is supposed to stand for increased central control, increased social programs and increased nation building, why would we even need Liberals? The Neo-Conservatives are a liberal group, derived from the Democratic party that have tainted the party itself, the values it once had and the very air we breathe.
Still, I think JJ is right in his assertion that instead of trying to rebuild this tainted house, a new, purer and better house be built on solid and pure land.
If you are a Republican and want your party to change away from the Neo-Con beliefs, stand up for what Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, Barry Goldwater and Robert Taft did and help restore your party to its traditional conservative ideals.
To you Libertarians, you are not part of the Republican club. Make changes in your own party, and don't make the rest of us trying to make real changes look bad. You don't have anything personally invest in making the Republican party a better place -- to restore it to the great party that it once was. You cannot be helpful acting as an outsider pointing a finger saying: "This is what you should be."
Don't try to tell us what to do if you aren't willing to work with us and be with us. Read "Conscience of a Conservative" by Barry Goldwater. Understand what resonates with Ron Paul and you will hear the echoes of what Goldwater stood for, and why he refuses to run third party, and understand how our party has lost our way and how you can restore it if you really want to help the cause.
Pushing your Libertarian-only my-way-or-the-highway agendas on us only bucks the process and doesn't help Dr. Paul.
