A number of internet sources are reporting that former Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia will announce next week that he intends to win the Libertarian Party nomination for President. The incorrigibly pro-McCain organization, Fox News, references an anonymous source that claims the announcement will likely be made at the Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas on April 5th at which Barr is the scheduled keynote speaker.
Barr was a Republican Congressman from 1995-2003. He served as the House Manager during the Clinton Impeachment hearings. Barr left the Republican Party due to ideological differences. After resigning from Congress, Barr became a civil liberties consultant to the American Civil Liberties Union. He is presently a Libertarian Party National Committeeman.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Barr's Libertarian candidacy would "essentially be an extention of the Ron Paul campaign".
Barr said of Paul and the Revolution:
"Ron Paul tapped into a great deal of that dissatisfaction and that awareness. Unfortunately, working through the Republican party structure, it became impossible for him to really move forward with his movement. But we have to have a rallying point out there to harness that energy, that freedom in this election cycle".
The website Fitsnews.com reports that Congressman Ron Paul of Texas, currently running for President as a Republican, intends to give his endorsement to Bob Barr. While it would otherwise be an unusual action for an existing candidate to endorse another active candidate, Paul and Barr find agreement on a majority of constitutional issues. Paul, a former Libertarian Party nominee for President, has run an atypical Presidential campaign as a Republican so anything is possible.
Supporters of the Texas Congressman frequently ask, "Who is the next Ron Paul?" Bob Barr may be their answer.
I have a few questions of my own.
1. Will neo-conservatives like Rush Limbaugh (but pretend to be anti-Mcain, true blue "conservatives") back Barr? Limbaugh used to praise Barr up and down, especially when Barr was handling the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Or will Limbaugh and his "conservative" groupies prove, once and for all, that they will support McCain no matter what?
2. Just how badly will Bob Barr beat Mike Gravel, the former Democrat who is also seeking the Libertarian Party nomination?
3. Will Christine Smith write a press release about how she still fits in to the ever-growing mix of candidates?
4. How will Barr and Paul work together to forward the general cause of liberty? It sounds like Barr hopes to take over as the point-man in the Revolution for Paul.
5. Will John McCain realize he can't win the Presidency if Barr wins the Libertarian nomination? And if so, how soon do you think he'll send his 96 year old mother out to start making pithy, anti-Barr remarks on Fox News?
False Child Sex Abuse Allegations - Lesson 3 The fear, shame and uncertainty felt by these falsely accused men cannot be put into words. No man can adequately describe his feelings, which adds to his position of isolation. He craves empathy and support, but a man accused of molesting a child will receive neither.
The Federal Scheme to Destroy Father-Child Relationships Federal entitlement programs are decimating the lives of children and trampling on the rights of fathers to the care and companionship of their kids. We must dismantle the Federal-State entitlement nexus that deprives men of their civil liberties. Here is what every man in America should know.
Ron Paul articles by Jake Morphonios:
Ron Paul's Meeting with Rogue Farmers As we talked about the truth of global schemes, the Federal Reserve and Alex Jones type "conspiracy theories", I looked at my Amish friends in wonderment. They had no running water or electricity in their homes, they dressed in the most simple, unembellished garb that could be assembled, they eschewed the ways of the modern world and sought to remain separate and apart from it - yet here they stood, expressing deep regret that the federal government had found its way into the heart of their community and was tearing it apart.
Can the Ron Paul Revolution Thwart Kruschev's Prophecy? The communist tyrant, Nikita Kruschev, made a chilling prophecy about America to Ezra Taft Benson, former member of Eisenhower's cabinet. Has the prophecy been fulfilled? Can it be stopped?
Reasons Why Ron Paul Opposes a National ID Card REAL ID legislation is the greatest affront to our civil liberties since the passage of the USA Patriot Act. Consider these reasons for opposing this federal scheme to invade your privacy.

This would make for an interesting turn of events. If he announces we'll have someone with some name recognition. Combine that with Ventura speaking out about the need for a revolution and all liberty-minded people will become fully engaged!
I wondered the same thing about RP being a Libertarian or Constitutional Party VP. What would stop Paul from running as Barr's VP? Do the same loser laws that prohibit Presidential candidates from one party running on a ballot as another party in the same election cycle in certain states apply to Ron Paul being able to get on the ballot as a VP?

I've said it all before so I will not go into details again but I can't see any way Ron Paul would nullify the past year, and indeed, his entire career to endorse any third party candidate.
It doesn't make sense, it offers no relevant benefit to anyone and it contradicts everything Ron Paul stands for.
I see alot of wishful thinking but I have yet to see a shred of logic explaining why Dr. Paul would do this. Anything can happen but this is about zero on my list of likely events.

Ron Paul still has faith in the ability to reform the republican party. As long as he has this faith, why would he endorse a candidate from a different party, even if he once was a member? He cannot claim to be both a Republican and a Libertarian. Honestly, I think would prefer a strong Libertarian party, but that's becides the point. Ron Paul seems to me to be a Republican and that's it.
Bob Barr's vote for war in Iraq in 2003 and his continued support for the fair tax bothers me most. Why hasn't he co-sponsored much of Ron Paul's legislation when he was in Congress? As for the so called "Fair Tax," the size of government can be decreased by replacing one tax with another. And I haven't seen much about his understanding of the establishment and threats like the North American Union...etc.
Some other concerns include his vote FOR the PATRIOT ACT, his full support for Federal control of the "war on drugs" and his lack of attention to killing the Federal Reserve and failure to pubically support hard money (Gold and Silver). Has anyone found his position on NAFTA?
Bob Barr was in Congress and apparently had no (or little) undersanding of the Constitution. Now some people learn about the Constituton a bit late. I will admit that I went all the way through law school without any understanding of the Constitution. Still, by the time you get to congress you should kow what you are doing. Especially if Ron Paul is there to help you figure it out!
Here is another Ron Paul candidate to consider as well -- Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party nominee. He was a vocal supporter of Ron Paul and has this to say about his primary focus as president:
"The loss of our sovereignty, the loss of our national independence is the great battle that is waging in America today. We will not be able to fight the other battles that we desire to fight. We're not going to have an opportunity to engage the other issues that confront us is we lose this battle. If we lose our freedom our independence our national sovereignty all the other battles go down the tubes simultaneous. This is the battle right now in which we must fight, we have no choice. It is thrust upon us in the same way that it was thrust upon the founders of this country. In the same way that Patrick Henry got up and said that the soldiers are already on the field of battle we have not choice we must rise to the defense of this battle so too the CP has no choice. We must stand in defense of our national sovereignty our independence and the principles upon which this country was formed or we are lost as a country.
The reason I was willing to stand with Congressman Ron Paul because he among all the other candidates in my view saw the most clearly and the most succinctly this battle. He understood the dangers of the United Nations. He understands the dangers of foreign entanglement, as did George Washington. He understands the dangers of allowing ourselves to succumb to the temptation of becoming and empire or a world regime. We are a constitutional republic. We are not a global empire. Every empire of history fell under the weight of trying to sustain that empire. Our founders understood that. That is why they drafted a Constitution which according to Jefferson was to be used as chains. Chains. Not upon us the people, but upon government to allow us to express the freedom and the liberty that God alone has given to us."
