Congressman King Should Censor Himself

His recent remarks are a distraction from the truth.

I believe Congressman Kings' recent fear mongering and ignorant statements only appeal to the fearful and the ignorant. His remarks are a total distortion of what is truly happening in Iraq. The military invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq was not intended to hunt down terrorists as congressman King would lead us to believe. We invaded to change the regime. Currently, our military is stuck in a quagmire between Sunni and Shiite while our puppet government tries to gather some legitimacy and control of a country in shambles.

The Congressman stated we are "on the cusp of victory." He defined victory as fulfillment of the Bush Doctrine. On that front, we are far from any victory. The Bush Doctrine aims at democratizing the Middle East. I would like to be optimistic but reason stands in the way. Middle East Muslims have never embraced secular forms of government or our constitutional style of democracy. They certainly won't accept it from an invading force. Just imagine a Muslim nation invading the United States and pressuring us to replace the Constitution with the Koran. It won't happen here, it won't happen there. Saudi Arabia, a "moderate" Muslim nation still executes homosexuals for being homosexual. I imagine they won't be adopting our Bill of Rights anytime soon.

Congressman King should consider censoring himself until he understands the situation in Iraq. The truth matters when there are thousands of American soldiers risking life and limb to fulfill unrealistic foreign policy goals.
