Some Sanity Regarding Steroids In Baseball

It took a Democratic Congressman from NY to insert some sanity into Congress's obsession with steroids in baseball.

The Associated Press is reporting that Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, who is a candidate for mayor of NYC in 2009, has asked the FBI to drop their inquiry of Roger Clemens as to whether he committed perjury in his recent testimony before the house regarding whether he took HGH.

In a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Weiner reportedly wrote: "Whether or not Roger Clemens may have committed perjury should not compete with real national security threats for the FBI's time, attention and resources."

How nice that there's a Congressman who is smart enough to realize that HGH usage in baseball is not a matter for Congress to pursue, and that Congress and the FBI have more important matters to attend to, such as real national security threats. Why the government is involved in this issue at all defies explanation, since the allegations involve no illegal activity. Essentially, Congress had asked the FBI to investigate whether Clemens lied under oath about an activity that isn't illegal.

Perhaps the FBI's time might be better spent pursuing more important questions, such as whether Congress has repeatedly violated their oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution. It would certainly be more just.

I personally would love to see an all steroid league in both MLB and the NFL.

That would be an exciting sport.

It is time however for our govenment to get focused on real issues.

So let me get this straight, Congress is using tax payer money to spend time on figuring out if someone lied to them on an inquiry about drug use in a children's game played by millionaires.  What does that have to do with writing legislation?

That tells me there are too many lawyers in Congress.
