Ron Paul Enjoys Landslide Victory

The voters of Texas Congressional District #14 left no doubt their hearts are firmly behind our modern-day defender of the U.S. Constitution.

The Office of the Secretary of State for Texas show Representative Ron Paul with a 70% to 30% defeat of Republican challenger W. Chris Peden. The Daily News, of Galveston County, stated, "Ron Paul, a Republican presidential candidate, faces a serious challenge for his District 14 congressional seat from Friendswood City Councilman Chris Peden. Because no Democrat is running, the winner of the Republican primary is likely to be the district's next congressman." He will still be on the ballot for the General Election yet he is now unopposed.

In what has to be a very sad commentary about the state of the Republican Party it is amazing to see Dr. Paul's biggest challenge coming from within rather than from outside of the party. However, after much anticipation there was a chance for W. Chris Peden to defeat Dr. Paul the results are obvious. This landslide victory should cause all Ron Paul supporters to rejoice.

Those embracing his message of liberty and personal responsibility now know Dr. Paul will once again be at the reigns of the Liberty Caucus. He will also be there to continue his long record of upholding his Oath of Office, defending the Constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic. This he will do no matter how confused his fellow representatives may be or how misunderstood his votes will continue to be. It is now the responsibility of all Ron Paul supporters to work hard and send him some new members to join the Liberty Caucus, their House leader will be waiting for them.

I guess it wouldn't be tactful to mention the rest of the state basically said "Ron Who?" and he cleared , what, 6% of the vote in the Lone Star State?

Yeah, you can tactfully say that.  It's amazing to me that those wanting a Federalist Republic are so few in number over all.  Most want the message of change...to more government.  Those of us who still believe in the experiment of the Federalist Republic cannot quit and pointing to that 6% is sure good incentive to step up the efforts!!

Proof that when people hear about or know about Ron Paul they like his ideas.

The problem with Ron Paul's presidential bid has not been Ron Paul or Ron Paul's message. The problem has been a near total blackout by the main stream media where the average voter finds out about the candidates.

It will be interesting to see what the TX precinct convention results are. Scores of past Republican voters switched to the Democratic primary according to released early voting data. Fair weather business partners, lemmings, or just knuckle-headed strategists, only time will tell. Paul delegates dominated a number of Republican precinct conventions in and around Tarrant County, TX, and passed some incredible resolutions. The senate/county conventions are next (Mar 29th), and the state convention follows in June. Don't you love how the media "knows" how it will all shake out when they don't even review the convention results and can't possibly have any way of knowing delegates' undisclosed preferences?  (Delegates are bound to popular vote only insofar as those rules remain unamended.)

This shows us that Ron Paul's constituents understand the message and love the messenger.  On the other hand, here in AZ Mr. McCain is widely reviled and hated.  Character still matters.  RON PAUL 2008--HOPE FOR AMERICA--BE PART OF IT!

Why did over half of the people who voted for Paul for Congress not vote for him for president?

I have read that RP got about 38000 votes for Congress but according to CNN.com on their election central page, on the Texas results page, the counties that make up the 14th district only show about 15000 votes for Paul for president. Is it just me or is something wrong here?

I will vote Libertarian, and I will not be suckered by the Republican Party anymore. Republican Liberty Caucus be damned, and those who support it and bar decent know nothing about societal paradigm shifts (which is needed). I will vote Libertarian.

Will, perhaps they wanted him as their Congressman more than their President, I don't know.

Loddi Doddi, I'm surprised with your disdain for the Liberty Caucus, the only decenting voice in Congress right now.  If we are fortunate enough to see an LP candidate reach Congress I would hope they'd join the Liberty Caucus.

Gary,

How could a Libertarian Party representative join the REPUBLICAN Liberty Caucus?

It's time for the Libertarian Party to shine. It's time that the Libertarian message get out there and represent what America is truely about. I, for one, will not let the Republican Party drown out the message of freedom, yet again.

I will vote Libertarian.

All liberty-minded members of Congress, no matter their party affiliation, are welcomed into the Liberty Caucus.  The movement is toward eliminating the word Republican from it all together which the party elite would love, as would I.  Having been a past LP Congressional candidate I know the rough seas of campaigning and if I would have made it this caucus was the only place I could have formed coalitions with people who embrace the Constitution.  I completely understand the disgust with the GOP yet I will not connect the Liberty Caucus to that disgust.

I also won't blindly vote LP or any other party.  I will continue to vote the candidate so if they are Constitutional Party members, LP members, or even RP members they will get my vote if they earn it through displaying a proper understanding of the Oath of Office.

Gary,

Why does it seem that there is an overwhelming move on the part of supposed Ron Paul supporters on message boards to try to stifle the message of the Libertarian Party (the same message that Ron Paul represents)?

I will vote Libertarian.

I guess I haven't seen the attempts to stifle the LP, or noticed it.  Ron Paul represents some LP views but not all.  Even I consider myself a conservative-libertarian.  I'm not attempting to stifle the LP and I apologize if that is the message you see in my writing.

Being a past LP candidate I learned many things from inside the party that frustrated me.  Too much party politics and not enough true focus on the change they represent.  The LP should have grown well beyond the current level had they avoided the in-fighting.

That being said, I have voted the LP Presidential candidate for the last 26 years and, depending on who the nominees are this year, will likely do so again.  I have supported many Congressional, State and local LP candidates as well.  However, I only vote for them based on the candidate and not based on the party.  All I'm saying is I'll vote the person and not the party every time.  One day I hope the LP overcomes being a political party and begins to be the leaders of the paradign shift we need.

Gary,

You stated that you saw some things in the Libertarian Party that frustrated you, and is your answer to that frustration with the Libertarian Party to take over the Republican Party?

If not, then why in hell aren't you supporting the Libertarian Party? What are you doing to affect change within the Libertarian Party, or do you just make no sense at all?

The Republican Liberty Caucus is REBUPLICAN.

Sorry for my harshness, but i don't and won't hold back for anyone, and for good reason.

Let me say I am not supporting taking over any party, I'm fed up with party politics and all the inherent in-fighting and wrangling that goes on within all of them, including the LP and RP.  I support taking over the Legislative Branch of our government by supporting liberty-minded candidates, party politics be damned.

No doubt, from your harsh "no sense at all" comments, you believe in the wonders of playing party politics...go for it.  I wasted enough decades with political parties...I'm going for quality candidates and I don't care if they are LP, RP, DP, GP, or any other as long as they understand and will uphold their Oath of Office to defend this Constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic as well as understanding what it means to represent the PEOPLE and not their party.

As for the Liberty Caucus, as long as it is headed by Dr. Ron Paul or his selected successor it will continue to be the voice of liberty within Congress.  Keep your blinders on tight and say it isn't right but that is the way it is.  Even if an LP candidate makes it to Congress they will be lost in a sea of elitist DemPublicrats if they don't form a coalition with liberty-minded members and the caucus offers that coalition.

Taking over the Legislative Branch will not be easy and you won't do it by working within any current party.  We need candidates that share the values this country was founded upon.  There's good reason not to hold back, we are in a crisis in this country, but your rudeness and stubborn views are not part of the solution and contribute to the very frustrations that are always inherent in party politics.  The party is over, time to take back our country and the target is squarely centered on Congress and State level legislative branches.  If that makes no sense to you so be it...we're marching forward.

Where did I say play party politics? But wouldn't you say that being libertarian, it is odd that all the libertarians supporting Ron Paul are trying to take over the GOP, as instructed by Ron Paul's campaign. With most places in the US not even allowed to have Libertarians on the ballots, what are libertarians doing to change that? Ron Paul's campaign and supporters cry about how the Libertarian Party is not so good, but then in the same breath speak boldly about overthrowing the Republican Party instead of doing anything about the Libertarian Party.

Screw party politics, but this message will die and be drowned out by fake Republicans, yet again, with the current path of "overtaking the GOP."

You want to take over the legislative branches and I'm all with you there, but what's the best way to accomplish that? By trying to win the vote of the very people (Republicans) who don't like Ron Paul's message? How does that make sense? March forward off the cliff, I guess.

If McCain is not derailed I see a new 2-party system: a merged Demopublican and a new party composed of Libertarian, Constitutional, John Birch Society members, thinking ex-GOP and ex-Dems. Of course the Insiders will try to strangle it in its crib. But for now, nothing is carved in stone until the convention makes its decision in September. In 1952 Senator Robert Taft entered the GOP convention with the nomination in the bag. But Eisenhower was nominated and won the election, resulting in our failing to win in Korea & Vietnam, and overall disaster in foreign and domestic policy. As Bill Clinton's mentor at Georgetown U wrote, (paraphrasing) "We (Insiders) don't really which party wins, our agenda continues to march." Informed activists cooperating can stop that march and restore our Free Republic, If McCain is the GOP nominee I will not vote for him. The lesser of 2 evil is still evil and I will not again vote for evil.
